NONE WHAT SO EVER!!! The unit is a pure Piece of Cow Dung and would serve greater as a boat anchor than something else. I purchased this unit since my four-drive NAS storage unit was possessing troubles and I required to wipe the drives clean. I was going to use the FreeAgent for a quick term Ƒ day) backup for ALL of my files. I felt weary of this but I thought the possibilities of the information loss were low... well apparently not low enough for Seagate. As soon as I transfered the information more than and verified the integrity the unit rebooted itself and lost 99% of issues on it... out of 2.7TB of information I transfered it only kept 143GB. I named Seagate quickly, the first guy HUNG UP on me in the middle of our conversation. The second a single told me that I need to have to buy 财 software that Seagate has for information recovery and that there is no assure for data integrity for their drives... He even pointed out in the warranty exactly where that clause is. Every little thing I ever had in digital form was lost and I am hoping I may be capable to recover it somehow. My wedding, my daughter's birth... Every little thing is gone since the unit is a pure Dung! Seagate is certainly horrible with the customer service. A single of the agents accused me of purposefully sabotaging my device so I could sue them... I've never ever been a Seagate fan but this has re-affirmed my belief that the ONLY drives to buy are Western Digital.

Considering that no drive manufacturer has yet released an internal 3TB SATA drive that could be utilised with a BlacX or similar device, I decided to take the plunge, and crack open the Seagate plastic housing, and turn this back into an "internal" SATA drive. The Seagate case is easy to open with a couple jeweler's screwdrivers (be gentle!). When you have the plastic housing off, peel back the rubber "shock absorbers" to reveal 4 screws that hold the metal shield in place. Undo those, then peel back the foil tape that seals the drive into the metal shield, and you are all set - bare SATA drive to use as you please. The specs for BlacX devices indicate that the max capacity of drive they support is only 2TB. The is in truth NOT correct. On the other hand, you have to select meticulously which SATA / eSATA port you attach this drive to, mainly because not all SATA controllers but support drives more than 2TB. Notably, the Intel ICH10R used on a lot of, quite a few Core i7 / i5 motherboards does not assistance drives over 2TB. Runs hot, this is absolutely a warranty voiding operation! In the open air such as in a BlacX device, this drive must be fine in a standard home or workplace at a standard room temperature of 25C. Probably not a very good concept to run it in a closed room on a hot summer day with no AC! Can't speak of it's operating temps in the Seagate enclosure, as I under no circumstances even powered it up in the Seagate case. four stars since frankly, I consider they could have performed far better with the thermal management. Outside of that, operates fine, and delivers immense capacity at a reasonable value. If your controller does not assistance drives more than 2TB, this 3TB drive will appear as a 750GB (aprox) device in Windows Disk Management. This is your clue that the controller can not handle the 3TB device. Thankfully, the Marvell controllers utilised by several makers to implement eSATA ports perform just fine with this 3TB drive. In my case, I'm using an Asus P6TD Deluxe, newest BIOS, Marvell storage driver 1.two..7103 with a BlacX eSATA device that is almost certainly 1.five years old (definitely not brand new). Recall that when you set this drive up in Windows Disk Management you Must convert it to a GTP disk (right click the disk quantity (ie Disk two), and pick "Convert to GTP Disk". Then you can partition it as a single ~ 2.7TB partition, and format as typical. Or you can TrueCrypt it - TrueCrypt will perform fine in this predicament as well. TrueCrypt formatting speed in the low 90's MB/sec on an i7 980X is in line with 2TB drives from all key makers (format encrypt speed NOT processor limit)

1st ever 3TB 3.5" single drive. 7200 RPM to boot. More than 150MB/s sequential study and create speeds making use of SATA interface. It's half as rapidly as an SSD for about 1ተth the price. Enclosure is terrible and working with it will most likely outcome in drive failure. Soon after operating a chkdisk for about an hour (want to make positive it's very good just before opening it) I took it out and the surface was 121F (this is soon after I spent 5 minutes locating my Rosewill laser temp scanner). The drive also had that burning solder smell to it. Luckily every thing looked OK. With proper cooling this drive will be a champ, but leaving it in the enclosure is possibly a death sentence. I think Seagate had a massive pile of these enclosures, and knew they sucked, so they're basically giving them away and forcing us to take them.BTW - a two year warranty and having to put it back in the enclosure is a terrible warranty for Seagate. Possibly we're the beta testers and soon after they see how it goes they'll roll out the internals with five year warranty.

This drive is very easy to set up: Plug and PlayThere is currently a partition and volume on the drive, so you shouldn't have to reformat or prepare the drive. There is some software program on the drive itself, which I like, so we don't waste a lot more paper and material for a CD I in all probability won't ever use. The only issue I am not crazy about is the stand. I laid mine down sideways as I am putting it on top rated of a personal computer than might get bumped after in a blue moon. So, I don't want the drive to fall more than. I would like to have it so there are possibly some tiny gel mats on the sides so if I do lay it over on its side like I am performing, there won't be a lot possibility of slipping, although it seems fairly stable just as it is now. The drive came extremely effectively packaged and protected. There unit itself is protected with removable clear film so it won't come "pre-scratched". That was a nice touch in my opinion. All round the drive seems to be a incredibly good worth for the cash.

Storage is obviously wonderful and speed as effectively... I wrote a previous overview about the I/O error...now I have the "click of death"...I've only applied this drive three occasions considering that I bought it...debating on wether I should try my luck with a 2nd... I don't like to write 1 egg reviews...but I had three difficulties with this drive overall...maybe it's the negative 1 of the bunch...

there is absolutely nothing good to say about this item! Immediately after transferring all my data it crashed!!!! lost every thing and sea-gate doesn't warranty any information recovery, you have to spend 财 for it and then they can't even guarantee they can recover anything.

slick appear, fantastic footprint,3tb storage i was told that this could come with eSATA adapter but it doesnt. Seagate decided to pull this adapter. So there is no want to get this. just daisy chain 2 tb with each other for a 4tb that is much better and faster.

Functions fantastic. 7200 RPM drive. Excellent capacity for the cost (got it at a discount). Looks very good.I have it plugged in to my process and it is on most of the time. No troubles with temperature (I did a continuous transfer of about 1 TB to it). none I read several reviews right here about the drive running hot. I hope these men and women have removed the plastic cover before using it. The enclosure is a metal mesh, but is covered by transparent plastic during shipping. I can see how it could run really hot if someone did not get rid of it.

- Price tag (Worth Getting a Couple) - three TB Pre Formatted Capacity ƒ.70 TB) Formatted - Physical Dimensions (Very Tiny) Simple to pack in your laptop case - internal cooling - Only USB, no eSata or Firewire - As per the norm these days, very brief USB cable with mini connector to the drive - External power supply is pretty much as huge as the drive - Operates good with Air Port Extreme right after reformat - Will not operate as a time capsule (Apple limitation, not the drive) - Functions with Time Machine when physically connected to a Mac running 10.5 or higher

Large. Eliminated my requirement for raid. Can now backup ALL my information. Enclosure. loaded one particular drive for three hrs, then removed it from the enclosure. It was so hot I had to put on gloves! Update: Purchased four of these total, took them out of the enclosures, converted to GPT and formatted, then place in a 4-bay esata enclosure with actual cooling. Appreciate 'em. (must run Win 7 x64 or Vista x64 to do this)

Purchased this to test it with Linux. Works devoid of difficulty on Ubuntu 9.04 or later, both as a USB drive and when removed from the case and employed with SATA. 3TB of genuine storage. I've been beating on it for a month, keeping it busy, with no troubles -- but I removed it from the c rappy case and installed it into a good Antec Veris case with actual cooling and both SATA and USB interfaces. I have no notion how Seagate thought they could standardize on external circumstances devoid of cooling or shock protection. I hope somebody lost their job more than that. Now they want to stop shipping them. Throw their case away ahead of it fries your drive. Some SATA controllers or SATA port extenders can't deal with ɮTB. Get one particular drive and test it in your configuration prior to springing for lots of drives. You can get a Seagate USB3 adapter for it, which is reputed to be as rapidly as SATA. My old kernel doesn't assistance that with out upgrading to Ubuntu 10.10 (which did perform for me in some incredibly straightforward testing).

High capacity, excellent for the price tag. None yet I have an old 500G FreeAgent and really like it. The base got truly hot, but I've utilised and abused that drive for a couple of years with no troubles. I was worried about the mixed critiques on this drive so I decided to try it out anyway. I quickly wiped the drive and reformatted to Mac Journaled. I spent the next many hours dumping data nonstop from a few other drives into it to see if it would get hot like other people complained about. Warm is about all I could get it. a lot of critiques on other sites talked about slow spin ups and sleeping drives. So far the only point I saw was a little hesitation a couple of occasions when I click the drive icon. Absolutely nothing extended and drawn out. I use this drive for media and so far this point has been outstanding. Hard drives die, it's frequent, so for now I'm enjoying my 2nd FreeAgent drive.

3TB! Thats a lot of Space, I had two.two TB in Data, so this worked out good, its the only 3TB On the Marketplace. Hums a tiny if on a difficult flat surface, no on or off switch.Im not seriously fond of the look, looks like a black matte band help texture and the dock lights are lame seeking to, I like WD single bar meter, significantly sleeker and cleaner but WD does not make a 3TB. I Read reviews of this getting hot, but I sent files to it for well more than 12 hours and it got warm at most. If you are finding a conflict, its likely do to it chose a drive letter already in use, correct click my pc, manage, right click the drive and go to "online" I didnt have this problem but some might have.

-Barracuda XT ST33000651AS inside.-Easy to open enclosure. -Runs very hot in enclosure -- don't use it! If you're extremely careful, you can open the enclosure with no any evidence. No voiding your two-year warranty!A single fatal flaw kills this drive -- the plastic enclosure. If you get rid of the enclosure from the equation, this is a 5-star value.

Inexpensive In the 1 week I've owned this factor it has lost's file technique facts 4 times ultimately resulting in me losing over 2TB of information that is now unrecoverable. Also it appears the USB adapter does some vodoo with the cluster size that makes this drive not play effectively with linux operating systems Manufacturer Response:Dear Valued Client, (Anonymous) This reply is from Seagate Support and I understand your three TB drive is not operating nicely with your Linux method as it has lost the file program four times. If you are utilizing the drive on a monitor or keyboard USB port, I'd try the drive 1 of the major pc USB ports rather. Also it need to be noted that the GoFlex drive computer software is supported for PC and Mac systems only as it is not supported for Linux. It may also be valuable to get in touch with us directly on this problem for some additional troubleshooting if the challenge continues. Normal Seagate USB Drive. Superior cost. The included backup computer software will only back up the "C" drive. The listing claims that it will back up "for all your files". That is misleading. They'll sell you usable software program, but they need to tell you the included version is crippled.

Superior searching, uncomplicated, rapid alter interfaces (optional).Purchased USB 3. interface (Newegg doesn't have but). Just snap it on and go. Broke the case open, this is basically a Seagate 3TB XT 7200 RPM drive. For the price, compared with their 2TB XT bare drive this is a very good deal. Really should come with one thing far better than USB 2. interface. Just ordered a different 1

A lot of space, terrific price, large name brand. This has been mentioned a lot, the stand is a joke. The drive is really not sturdy and at 7200rpm you can Really feel it shaking in the course of operation. My huge issue is that two drives can\'t be connected concurrently (there are threads about this on the Seagate forums, none of the workarounds worked for me). The usual/terrible software is bundled with it. You will need to have to use this software program to change the default on the drive to NOT timeout and power down. You can also turn off the LEDs (nice feature). Total space offered is 2794.5GB.I wish I would have waited for the WD 3tb external.
