It installed fine on two old PCs operating XP no SP and SP2. 1.3Ghz Intel board and 2.0Ghz Through board. I was in a position to flash a SATA DVD drive.DVD drive works with typical software. New drivers are effortlessly obtainable at VIAarena. Did not work with xbox 360 XBC software program with Kreon drive even with most current drivers.Avoid combining VT6421 SATA chipset and Kreon. In all probability overpriced for what it is. It is detected as RAID. I don't believe it can do arrays.XP DRIVERS Here:http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID&OSIDɣ&CatID򕍬&SubCatID

Plug'n'Play into my older than dust desktop. Worked great to flash my Xbox 360 HDD. Construct high quality is not so excellent, but I don't plan on making use of it extremely typically anyway. Worked good to flash my Xbox HDD, also heard it performs for flashing the DVD Drive, but I'm not prepared to take that threat correct now.

May function for anything else except XboX flashing. Did not recognize my BenQ drive, possibly since it was searching for the eSata signal in the back port which I didn't have a cable for.

It worked with Vista Property Fundamental after downloading ver 5.six of driver. Undoubtedly NOT SATA II at three. Gbs, rather regular SATA at 150 MBs only. There need to be a misprint on the Newegg title caption; it even doesn't state SATA II in the specs (on Newegg device desc). I had to go back and challenging-jumper the disk drive (WDC WD2500JS-00FLA2 ATA three. Gbs spec) to 150 MBs to get it to "see" this controller. I took it out and put the drive back to the mobo connector and put this controller on the shelf!

It worked fine for flashing my XBox 360s DVD firmware. All tested features (SATA, IDE, RAID) work for me. Drive performance on a SATA HDD (not SATA II) is somewhat slow compared to my motherboards SATA slots. RAID capabilities are finicky and hard to get working. Like I posted above it functions fine for flashing 360 drives, which is what I purchased it for. Almost everything else is what I expected from a ฝ card.

Operates completely. Drivers can be downloaded from Through's internet site and work nicely once they take. Bootable, provided your BIOS knows how to interpret it as a bootable device. This is true for ALL add-in cards, not just this a single. Drivers are a bit shaky out of the box, had to reseat the card twice just before it stuck appropriately in the PCI slot and showed up. Drivers can be a bit shaky, but operating Via's driver setup supplied in either a download from By way of or the CD in the box performs just fine. Can be a bit finnicky with PCI slots - had to reseat a couple of instances just before anything was happy.

Price, ease of installation, PCI interface. none I bought the component for a friend who bought a SATAII DVD-RW drive devoid of realizing he didn't have the headers on his motherboard. He performed the installation all by himself. He's not totally clueless, but he isn't an advanced computer system user either. He reported zero issues.

It is affordable, it's is a SATA controller card, and it claims to also be a raid controller. It did recognize my two tough drives. This is where the pros end. It says you can create a computer software RAID array in Windows Vista. It would not function, even following a fresh install of windows. The documentation is the worst I have ever observed. Their web site is even worse. Overall, worst tech support I have ever observed. The other con is my BIOS would not boot it. Not necessarily the cards fault, but the card would not let me to enter it's constructed in BIOS. Apparently, there is some sort of work about where you can insert it into, then flash your BIOS. I did not bother trying so I can\'t say if it works.I will under no circumstances ever get a SYBA product once more. It is not worth the hassle or headache to save 15 dollars. Get a true controller from a true corporation. I am actually disappointed newegg sold it. It does not do what it says it will, and is an inferior solution. Manufacturer Response:Dear Client,This card only supports SATA I really hard drive speed, you may well need to jumper your SATA II tough drive to SATA I transfer rate at 1.5Gb/s as the auto speed negotiation might not work properly on the difficult drive. If you are adding IDE challenging drives, please make positive you set the jumpers to master, slave or cable pick accordingly. All of our goods come with at least three years warranty. inexpensive...if it worked. (Or expensive garabage depending on your point of view.) bought three of them, attempted them in three unique machines. Windows found and installed the builtin drivers for the VIA6421 chipset (Both Vista and 7). Fails to detect any really hard drives connected. Identified new VIA6421 drivers on the By means of site which crashed Windows 7 so that not even protected mode would work. Searched the Syba web-site and discovered no mention of the product or any assistance files for it. My usage was for eSata ports for external storage difficult drives. Under no circumstances attempted booting from the card, despite the fact that I doubt thats doable either as there was no evidence that the bios recognized the card. Manufacturer Response:Dear Consumer,Thank you for getting our items. We apologize for any inconvenience. The eSATA port only functions with regular enclosure with one particular tough drive. Please make certain the external storage device you use does not have a port multiplier which have a lot more than 1 really hard drive (RAID tower enclosure or related). All of our solutions come with at least three years warranty. Please don't hesitate to speak to us at assistance-us@syba.com for replacement.Regards,Syba Buyer Service 821

It functions when the drivers are not present and you set up it for the 1st time and don't shut the personal computer down. It does not enable the computer to boot into windows (or at all). I required this card for it's fairly small form issue. I could use it when I installed it the 1st time, but as soon as I shut down the laptop and attempted to commence it back up, it froze. I take out the card... normal boot. I put it back in... frozen. All the negative testimonials... I must have listened.

Low cost. Drivers set up very easily in to an existing Windows O/S currently installed on a distinct controller. Appears quick enough. Does not seem to be bootable at all. Does not show up in pc BIOS boot cycle. Manual which comes with the SY-VIA6421-3S1P product says a thing about pressing TAB during BIOS boot, so manufacturer appears to believe it need to be bootable. Not for me, and not for at least one particular other reviewer here. I need to have read his comments additional carefully prior to shopping for this issue :-(

None whatsoever. All I wanted was an eSATA port for 1 of my older computer systems. In spite of the poor evaluations I figured I was risk-free with this one because I wasn't attempting to use the RAID characteristics (or more than a single device, for that matter). How wrong I was.The initially SY-VIA6421-3S1P I ordered was dead on arrival. No BIOS messages from the card on boot (which is typical even with "functional" units, by the way). Linux saw the card asᚨɄd. Non-VGA unclassified device: D-Link Technique Inc Device 1301 (rev 0b)Linux supports this chipset in the kernel and like my motherboard (ABIT KR7A) this card makes use of a Via chipset. So there is no cause for incompatibility. So I returned the card to NewEgg for a replacement. My second SY-VIA6421-3SIP was detected appropriately in lspci but on boot threw "SATA link down" and "abnormal status" errors. My acomdata PDHD500USE-72 on its 19" Cables Unlimited eSATA cable was entirely ignored.I won't waste any much more income shipping this factor back, so I'm burned. I didn't try it because I think my units each had issues much more fundamental than the RAID BIOS not coming up, but if you occur to have a much more semi-operating unit and are feeling brave there is supposedly a way to modify your motherboard's BIOS to let this RAID card's BIOS to display on boot. Google "Getting Through VT6410/VT6420/VT6421 SATA-controllers to operate" for far more facts. Manufacturer Response:Thank you for buying our item. Some motherboards have a security capabilities to block all card BIOS text. In your motherboard BIOS settings, please go into ‘Security’ settings, you may well be able to locate an selection to set “Expansion Card Text” to enable. All of our goods come with at least three years warranty.
