Sleek case, Good on the inside, decent price tag. space for 4hds, cooling seems great for the size of the unit. Installing Centos five.4 isnt uncomplicated on this box. Centos doesnt see the dvd drive.Slackware Linux would set up no issue, centos was just becoming a discomfort to set up on this hardware.Poor memory help, no FB assistance. Possibly windows server likes this hardware better?

Works good with debian six x64 bitSAS drives operate with an add on raid card Necessary to get in touch with supermicro, have them release a new bios to function with an lsi megaraid sas6 card (which is not yet on their web site, but you could call them to get bios X7SBI1.113.zip)

Easy to set up, mount and configure. The issue runs like a champ. 1 yr. warranty is default - some areas won't let you get the 3 yr. as an choice.Sales line (SuperMicro) is close to impossible to get via - telephone rep was difficult to realize. Most net and mail filter appliances are based off of a SuperMicro server, and they are developed to run 24x7. These issues are workhorses and are a cinch to setup.

Price/performance. Straightforward access to method components. Supermicro motherboard is a rock. Like most affordable 1U boxes, there are some corners cut right here and there: rack rails, challenging drive sleds, case exterior - all bare minimal metal weight. Nonetheless, still 5-stars mainly because of cost/value. Comes with X riser card. Quite loud, only fit for datacenter. With 8GB, quad xeon, and RAID10 - makes for solid app-tier box. Unsuccessful at Windows Server 2008 driver install for RAID, but in all probability just me.

Comes with virtually every little thing you require, just add challenging drives, CPU and RAM and you are up and running. As other individuals have noted, it is loud, but then in a data center... no 1 can hear you scream.... This server is incredibly space confined. If you buy a RAID card to use with this server, make positive that the stock cables can reach the card and that the card doesn't use a high density connector requiring you to swap the cables out.The back plane for the hard drives expects to use 90 degree angled SATA connectors (right angle). We ran into trouble with the 3Ware 9650SE-4LPML cable since the connectors are straight not angled, and the space in between the back plane and fans is Very tight. It can be made to operate, but the strain it puts on the cable can not be excellent. To my know-how 3ware does not make a cable with 90 degree connectors. Stick with a RAID card that uses native SATA ports on the card so you can employ the stock cables, or swap in your own right angle data cables if necessary.

I've been running this box 24ǝ for 18 months and have not had a single problem with it. Supports 8 GB RAM which is adequate to run SBS 2008 rather well in a SOHO atmosphere. 4 hot-swap drive bays are great for future expandability or replacing a failed disk with no bringing down the method. Loud fans, but that's understandable in a server box. I don't have a dedicated server room so I put this in a 4U XRackPro case (has sound proofing) and it's considerably quieter. Operating SBS 2008 (x64) on this w/ C2D E8400 ʃ.0GHz / 8 GB / 2x320 GB 7200 RPM drives in RAID-1 configuration. It's acting as a fileserver for the LAN and running IIS, Exchange, and SQL Server for mail/light web apps externally.

Have several of this precise method & dozens of other SM sytems. Excellent hardware. Other people mentioned noise.(see other thoughts) Support has been superb when necessary. None. You can manage the speed of the fans in the bios, but you need to have to allow this function and set the alternative. Two locations. HTH
