BIOSTAR TA760G M2+ Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

I got one of these to put an old CPU in as I was upgrading the CPU on my main computer. When I put the old CPU in this board (An AthX2 3.2Ghz which is an Socket AM2 chip) It warned me that the CPU drew more than 95 watts and it shut down to protect the board. I tried to massively under clock the CPU down to 1Ghz in the bios to see if it would run it but it still gave the same error message. Although this board is advertised as AM2 plus It has no where near the power rating that it should. Even it's own manual says it should be rated to 125 watts but I suspect the latest firmware is limiting it to 95 watts or less. I returned the board as it clearly was not actually AM2 plus capable.

Comment:
I purchased this mainboard in an attempt to build a cheap, effective gaming pc. So far I've only had the problem of the USB ports burning out. Real early, I don't know if there is a Warranty on it or not, doubtful. Overall decent mainboard.

This seems to be a very stable Motherboard. Been running non-stop for 3 days with no issues. On-board video seems to work really well with World of Warcraft. Installed 4 gig of Ram so on-board video is using 512 with out any issues. All around nice for the price. Con-- May be my own issue, but it does not have a printer port, cable and interface needed if you are using an older printer. Not bad for only con at this time.

Comment:
If you are in a budget but want to protect your investment this is the right mobo; support of 16GB RAM max and latest AMD CPUs. I am running Linux without any problems. (Use memory model K24-6032).
