Case appears sturdy It doesn't operate at all? Waste of time and funds? USB Device Not Recognized. Windows 7 Ultimate 32 and x64 and Ubuntu 9.10 all have the very same response. Also, it randomly appears to start moving the heads in the drive about.. I swear, if this point ruined the drive..... >_<

As soon as you put it together it works somewhat. This point barely fits a normal 3.five" drive. Also the case itself is flimsy and has sharp edges. The endplate barely match. shoddy building. Newegg need to give these away as gifts. Spending about $xx is the sweet spot for these.

It is modest, and the aluminum disperses some heat. No driver for the connection, just configureation inside of disk management. Plastic clips for the front broke off, the style of mounting the HD onto a Computer board that has the LED lights was a tiny odd and it is Incredibly tight to get the drive into the enclosure. I believed I was going to damage the HD when installing it. It runs hot, or actually the drive in it runs hot, and it transfers. The case can get extremely warm, also warm to touch, immediately after about two hours of use so this is not a option for a permaniate storage drive on a system. It can take NFTS drives, the format of the HD has practically nothing to do with the enclosure, it makes use of a USB Mass storage driver (in windows) to load the interface and then disk management sees this as a normal HD.

Affordable. Properly if I could have tried it, maybe I could create a bunch of cons or possibly none, but because it by no means worked with any of my IDE Tough Drives I can't tell. Possibly I must have purchased a additional pricey better top quality external case.

Affordable Low cost Fantastic alternative to turn an old IDE tough drive external, wouldn't use it as long term solution as drive gets hot, and it doesnt do the greatest job when it come to drive heat.

The simplicity of the item is what my target was. A thing straightforward; a thing to just be anything. For the most portion it did it's job It was significantly less than expected and is essentially dead. The energy source totally quit on me. I was going to just obtain one more energy cable, but the cable fees as significantly as the solution itself. The front cover is also really stiff and brittle. It fractures quickly and readily. If you want anything just to have and say, "Yippy it's my initial time using an external enclosure on an internal HDD" then be my guest and get this. Otherwise, just spend the added ŭ and get a larger priced a single. Or else just save your cash.

It operates correct off the bat on XP. No drivers needed (unless you're on 98, then they supply you a CD). Quite poor style!! 1. case doesn't snap in that effectively. 2. Very flimsy IDE cables. three. No power switch, so have to pull out from wall socket -- annoying when you hide all your energy strips behind the table. But hey. You spend พ. I regreat finding this low-cost piece of ****. Save up บ-20 more and get a much better trusted case.

Was Not Recognized At All On Windows Computer systems I Utilised (WinXP, Win7, Ubuntu 11.04).No Power Switch. I Could Have Just Gotten A Faulty A single. Testing With A number of HDDs Has Not Shown Any Benefits, I Can not Read Something From The HDD.

Modest, inexpensive, rapidly. Too numerous specificaions for really hard drive settings (ie. had to disassemble and re-format to FAT 32, and set jumper as master). Really hard drive barely fits in to case. Scratches electric conacts, causing possibility of brief circuit. No shock protection. Only reads FAT 32, useless for even little ƔGB+) backups. Inexpensive, and will do the job for tiny file backups. don't expect considerably a lot more from a xx$ enclosure.

Value was right, just needed to resurrect an old IDE drive with some of the wife's stuff on it. Got the drive installed in the external unit and had it up and running in significantly less than 15 minutes. Energy switch would be cool. Newegg rocks.

it was low-cost excellent for that 1 really hard drive you need to have to be an external challenging drive. I attempted to use this item to test hard drives but quickly as you break the cheap little IDE cable its all over you can not modify out the IDE cable its hardwired to the board! I would have also liked an on off energy switch for hot swapping my drives

Small, light and decent construction. Will read drives bigger than 500GB. No energy switch Someone pointed out that the IDE ribbon cable was soldered to the board and not replaceable. That is not the case. If you detach the ribbon cable or it breaks you can replace it. not a problem. I put a 750GB drive in it, and ran it for about eight hours while I backed all I wanted onto it. While the unit does get warm, it was by no indicates so hot that I couldn't touch it like a person also described. A person also pointed out the LED's have been bent to 1 side. This was correct for me. While it's effortless to bend them back, it's rather unfortunate and definately price this portion one particular egg.Even though this box is affordable, it's not Close to as undesirable as some are making it out to be.

Hot swapable, I had no complications fitting my seagate 250gb IDE in there, Slim style(as amall as it could be with a 3.five" drive), stays cool, status lights(access and power), comes with all cables/screws/A SCREWDRIVER, no drivers required with 2000/XP (but drivers are integrated) NOT USB Power as mentioned. IT won't pull adequate power to turn on my drive. So they consist of a energy supply "just in situation" a small misinformation. The two plasic panels on the back and front are cheesy. Manual has poor english. Overall its a good unit. I had no issues formatting the drive NTFS like somebody else did. Just correct click my laptop or computer/manage/diskmanagement and adhere to instructions. They even tell you how in the book. But I wanted USB power so is was a tiny disapointing. Most critical factor is is works flawlessly

Inexpensive, that is it. Take that for what it is worth. This drive only accepts FAT32 drives, it WILL NOT accept NTFS and therefore is worthless for any new drive unless you strategy on partitioning it into a million tiny drives. Note that it does not say this on the specifications but only in the manual that you recieve later.

The unit is modest. It is not a lot bigger than the hard drive itself. The unit has no fans so operation is very quiet.WinXP recognized the challenging drive with no problemsExtremely small Philips screwdriver supplied. Assembly was difficultTools are needed to assemble. A normal Philips and a quite little Philips screwdriver are needed to assemble the unit (small one supplied). The difficult drive screws to a PCB with the circuitry on it. In order to screw the challenging drive down the board bends somewhat due to the configuration of the wires. If the tough drive is not centered on the PCB when screwed down it will not slide into the aluminum enclosure. The hole in the plastic back piece for the USB connector is slightly too little. The back piece is held in spot by some really smaller screws – these would be uncomplicated to loose and are difficult to handle. Right after backing up 7.5GB of information the hard drive was warm but did not really feel overly hot

Compact, and it performs as expected. Only perhaps 15%-20% larger than a three.5" drive. Pretty sharp seeking. No rubber feet. Inexpensive energy provide jack (why do individuals maintain making use of a "psǘ" style jack for this sort of factor?) may possibly effortlessly break pins. Had to bend LEDs inside to shine out of the lens. Drive mounts straight to PCB which in turn slides in on the "rails", leaving shreds of powdered PCB everywhere if you aren't cautious. These points are not necessarily complaints, as this is a quite inexpensive case. พ at the time of posting. Bought this for backing stuff up and then storing it. Wouldn't advocate this enclosure for heavy use or lots of transporting, as there is little suspension to speak of in the case, and the plastic front and back covers look like they wouldn't survive considerably shock at all. Nevertheless, it suits my purposes effectively.

This is a good item and priced proper also.

looks smaller and OK If you want to use the NTFS file method Tough drive...then dont buy this...This interface accepts only FAT32 formatted difficult drives. FAT32 is not at all efficient for ᡌGB difficult drives. Obviously we are going to place larger tricky drives into this.IF YOU WANT TO LOOSE UR EFFICIENCY OF UR Challenging DRIVE THEN Obtain IT!!It's fairly tight whilst inserting the tough drive. You can use it for smaller difficult drives of less than 20GB :)

It works as an external hard drive enclosure, but... It tends to make my challenging drive run so hot that it shuts down :( It believed it fried it, but I let it sit for a few hours & it worked once more. I ended up drilling little holes down the front panel slot and created a rectanglular pattern of holes on the rear panel. This has helped a lot and I also run a fan on it while I'm utilizing it. Be incredibly careful! Do not just let it run...it will burn up your difficult drive in a hurry if do not address the heat concern!

Compact, Tough. This external enclosure was as well modest for my three.5" Maxtor 300 G HD, I had to really jam the tray into the case. Also the power wires link the tray to the HD are inexpensive and they had a bad connection. The enclosure worked for a month and then stopped working completley. The situation gets quite hot, my HD would shut down soon after five minutes of operation. Do not purchase this product spend the money and get a much better high quality 1 with a fan.
