This drive enclosure has been my favorite for quite some time now. I am back for more! They are extremely reliable, priced right and are easily stackable for additional units. You may face them flat using the rubber pads provided (horizontally) or on its side, using the plastic side bracket (vertically). Highly recommended!

Purchased with 160 gig Western digital HD for backup. Have for two weeks so far. Everything worked first time. Set it up with sata. Same problems with tight fit as everyone else. Fan ok so far but I have turned it off between uses so the fan hasn't been used much. I was turning the unit off not because of the fan, which I didn't know about since I hadn't read all the reviews but because the blue light in the front of the unit is so rediculously bright that it lights up my bedroom at night.

Purchased about 5 months ago. First one did not power up and was replaced quickly (warranty). Tight fitting and found I didn't need to use the case screws - love the internal fan. Otherwise works fine - I have other external drive cases (NexStar) and this is the best so far.

For over six years I have been buying cases for various IDE SATA external drives. I started with 80GB and now have several 1.5TB e-sata. The interior seems smaller with every model. It would be a great bargain if it dropped below 30dollars each.

I too found it tight to install the drive. Directions tell you to plug the drive in before installing the screws but I found if you didn't plug the drive in until you screw it into the case. Don't be afraid to pull the plugs and cables out of the way. The case screws were another story. The holes in the case are too small for the screws. Presently I have one screw that I THINK is inserted all the way and the other isn't flush with the case. That should be addressed because I'm not the only one to complain about it. I knew about the problem before I purchased. I'm using this as storage for my laptop and is connected via USB2 and seems to be running smoothly.

Too tight to get screws in, but that same tightness holds it all together so all's well that ends well on that front. Have the PS and card reader and two enclosures working very nice together. Quiet, but exhausts a lot of heat so keep well ventilated. Prices on comparable enclosures have come down, so would consider alternatives now due to the 40 percent price gap, even after discount, but happy with the existing hardware.

We ordered two of these units and tried multiple times to get them to recognize different drives. We tried using on different computers and interfaces (USB and eSATA). Then we left the cover off and listened to the drive which revealed that it was not spinning up even though we had an active power light on the front of the case. So, be sure to listen to your drive before you do anymore diagnostics. This appears to be a chronic problem since it occurred on more than one unit.

Pros: Product has a fan that's pretty silent and keeps my hdd cool. I love the fact that it has eSata. Cons: Installing the hdd was a pain. Wayyyy to tight fitting. Installing the screws to close the case was impossible, but the case seems to be fine with out them.

This is the 3rd attempt to write this and have it accepted. So now with anger I write it. This case is crap. If you attempt to shut the case and line up the screw holes you are in jeopardy of breaking the connector in the back of hard drive to case. Mine is sitting with a quarter inch gap with scotch tape over it to keep the dust out. Case needs to be redesigned.

The fit is exceedingly tight and the screws that keep the case on are not well threaded (which is such a small thing to get right).

I have no problem using the connections for the enclosure but after not long the fan inside came loose and i now get this annoying buzzing from the fan vibrating against the plastic. It's so loud that i can hear it over the music that i have stored on that drive. Unless you like alot of noise, do not buy this enclosure.

I have been using this hard drive enclosure for about a month now.... So far everything is working as advertised. The screws to install and tighten the case are a little tight and the hard drive enclosure does not have much room. This makes the cables very tight when connected everything is connected. This product is working very well as of this update and I would buy it again for this price.

Nicely done Ultra! Low profile, quiet, unobtrusive, with a SATA II connection, and very easy on the eyes. Ultra is making quite a name for itself with innovative products like these. Well worth the money.

Goes together fast. Good value, bright easy to see lights. On-off switch - nice feature. I don't understand giving the box a bad review because the drive you try to use doesn't work, that's not the fault of the box.

Great item, dose every thing its supposed to do. Use the USB connection to the Ultra hub. Have yet to use eSATA. I got 2, one for a Seagate 1.5TB, and a Maxwell 500GB. I still have my first Ultra HDD enclosure, and still works great, Used the firewire connection. Wish these enclosures had a option for a firewire connection as well, or even had the daisy chain feature the earlier one had.

This is the second time you asked me to review this item. The harddrive has been backordered for weeks. I cannot try this enclosure until it gets here.

pros: can stack 6 without extra the need for extra wall plugs when coupled with the ultra stack power center. cons: sata connectors inside case could benifit from alittle more space. when hd is properly setted. connectors seem to have tension on them. case screws are almost impossible to start unless you use a power screwdriver or drill.

This is my 2nd Ultra Stackable. Easy assembly and fired right up. I like that they stack and therefore take up minimal space. Would definitely buy another if needed, and definitely recommend to others.

Used this with a 750 gig Seagate Barracuda with an Expressvu PVR. Worked well until the drive failed, at least I thought the drive failed, it didn't work in another enclosure either. However, upon replacement of the drive, I discovered it wouldn't work in the Ultra but did work in the other enclosure.

Good snug fit, attractive and functionable. Small fan does not move enough air to keep HDD's cool though, don't consider if you need to leave the drives on for an extended period of time. May work better with a few minor mods.

As with previous reviews the drive is tight to mount internally. Once installed it functions very quietly. I used a 1.5TB drive and have had no problems with it. I have it bundled with the Media-USB hub unit. They travel with me and my laptop where ever I go.

The first SATA HDD enclosure I bought was DOA! I returned it and bought 2 more and they were fine. Design could be better where serial data cable is attached to HDD. I fear the stress on the cable when the HDD is installed right on top of the board connector will eventially cause fatigue and failure. Using just the middle and front mount screws will allow the least pressure on connector. We will see as the product wears. Nice looking cases, light weight and looks professional when stacked.
