Cons: I bought it for the ide hdd

Pros: nice sata case
Comment:
my adonics broke because of a burst capacitor so I bought this. The ide was plugged in and I had the one jumper at the far left which I thought was master, but the hard drive didn't power up.I looked at the manual and it said the ide needs to be set to master and then I looked at my hdd and the picture for master showed two jumpers starting from the far left. So my hdd needs two jumpers to be master and so the case didn't recognize the hard drive and didn't boot up.I thought the hard drive case was broken and was ready to send in a rma but then tried a spare sata hard drive and the machine started and everything worked on both my computer, xp, and my bell satellite pvr.So if you get this be sure your ide hdd is set to master. The machine is quiet and cool and everything is nice, I use the usb on the pvr. There's a bright green light on the front of the case.So now I need to get another hdd jumper bit from somewhere to try out the ide hdd in the case.

Cons: Price is a little high...

Pros: Takes your old IDE hard drives or SATA drives and helps transfer data to your PC.
Comment:
Used this to transfer data from an old IDE hard drive into a new PC. Good product, would recommend.

Cons: Plastic components are of questionable quality

Pros: Good feature set for the price
Comment:
I purchased this enclosure to attach a 2TB Seagate Barracuda HDD to a new WD TV Live Plus, while still having the flexibility to retrieve some data off older IDE disks.Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be able to recognize a 2 TB drive. Reviewing the NCIX site and the specifications in the owners manual, that information isn't listed anywhere.Only after visiting the startech.com website did I find "Max Drive Capacity - Tested up to 1.5 TB". Rather disappointing.I'm also not impressed with the plastic components in this enclosure. The slide which locks the drive cage into the metal exterior is of poor quality and the drive does not feel secure once installed.

Cons: Fan grill snaps inside case very easily

Pros: Solid build, easy installation, very good instructions.
Comment:
I am very pleased with this purchase. I bought 2 of those for old IDE drives that were lying around. It does what it says it will do. Did not try it with SATA drives so I cannot say how well it work. The HD enclosure is solidly built. It is very easy to install and set-up. Just be carefull not to press on the fan grill while inserting the drive in the case. The grill snaps in at the slightest touch but other than that I am really impressed with the quality feel of the product. The fan noise is not noticeable at all.

Cons: none so far

Pros: it looks cool, works great with a sata drive havent used an ide one yet, easy to setup
Comment:
using this with a 5000 gb wd drive and couldn't be happier, it has a small footprint so it doesnt take up alot of room. i would have liked to buy a usb 3 one but the prices are a little steep still, all in all a great purchase.

Cons: None as of yet.

Pros: Very rugged enclosure, well built.
Comment:
I have bought two of these now from NCIX and thrown the hard drives I had in my tower into them. Since I do alot more work on the road now I tend to use them with my notebook. These enclosures are adaptable to both sata and IDE which makes them very versatile.

Cons: About $10-$15 more expensive than the AcomData Samba line but a decent price match I found took care of that for me.

Pros: This has got to be the best enclosure I've ever bought. Built in 80x15mm silent fan, 100% tooless snap & slide locking design, compatible with IDE PATA & SATA drives, eSATA & USB 2.0 connectivity, used a sliding removeable vertical stand. Two prong power plug, power button on front has a green activity LED rim that flashes for activity, a smaller "One Touch Backup" button on the front below power/LED button. As fast as any other good speed enclosure via USB 2.0 and the fan makes it a good choice in non air-conditioned hot day environments.Packaging was proper, well packed & protected cardboard box, all pictured accessories included. 50% smaller box & packaging than the AcomData Samba 3.5" comes in, making this unit a lot more ecologically responsible. Very solid design not including the light plastic stand but that too is sufficiently sturdy.

Two prong power plug, power button on front has a green activity LED rim that flashes for activity, a smaller "One Touch Backup" button on the front below power/LED button. The enclosure is 50% thicker than the AcomData Samba 3.5" models and most likely because this has a fan and the AcomData model does not. As fast as any other good speed enclosure via USB 2.0 and the fan makes it a good choice in non air-conditioned hot day environments. I will be buying another one of these units probably the white version. Working perfect with my 300GB DiamondMax PATA133 drive. a great answer for internal hdd's that you don't want to get rid of and still would like to make use of. made this for my wife to do her school work with her lab top for power point presentations. great portablity, works for IDE or SATA and the 80mm fan is a wonderful addition, really keeps hdd & case very cool, meter read 62 degrees after 4 hours of continous use. good vaule & price.

The enclosure works perfectly. The backup software is for USB only, not esata. Don't be fooled like I was. If you buy an esata card and an external esata hard drive enclosure like this one, don't expect to get 300 Gbps transfer speed. Tech support said 35-55 Gbps is normal and won't be any faster.

My personal UNI3510U2EB enclosure is the third one I've used. I have 2 at the office. Besides the fact that you can install and uninstall drives without having to use tools or mess with a bunch of screws, it's one of the most electronically versatile enclosures available. The fan not only keeps the enclosed drive very cool, but is nearly silent when running. Then there is the bargain price. This enclosure is what enclosures should have been from the very beginning.

Ok, The idea behind this thing is great, the parts are all there to make a nice enclosure and the USB works, but eSATA,nope. Tried to hit the RMA button and now I have to call into customer service. What a pain in the tail,so much for this one.I will try another one and if it has the same issues,I will be getting a refund

Cons: Does not allow access to IDE drives by the eSATA port; marginal quality, especially of the plastic components.

Pros: Facilitates access to either a SATA or an IDE drive; integral fan is reasonably quiet and manages to circulate air through the enclosure; includes eSATA & USB cables.
Comment:
Had intended to use this enclosure to provide a high speed migration of data from old IDE drives to a new system and then then use the enclosure with a new SATA drive for backup. While USB 2.0 transfer rates are okay, they're significantly slower than the eSATA standard. It should be noted that the combined cost of an IDE and a SATA enclosure would be more than that of this single unit. Don't expect the plastic components to withstand frequent and often drive change outs, the front panel of my unit had popped off and had to be reinstalled.

I was looking for a hard drive enclosure that would take both SATA and IDE hard drives. This unit fit the bill. It was very easy to install the drive, no hardware required, and I was able to use it to back up my laptop on one hard drive and my desktop on another.

Value - Can't beat the price. The cost including shipping was cheaper than enclosures at computer and electronics stores. Features - Instalation is simple. Can be used with or without screws. The locking drive bay is quick and easy. Quality. - The aluminum case is nice and solid. Looks good and takes up little space for a 3.5 Performance - Quiet and runs great. Recognized quickly with USB cable but also comes with SATA cable and software. Very happy with the purchase.

I have been using enclosures for over 15 years and this one has had problem after problem. The included fan started to whine after a week, and at a month had failed. The power button stuck down soon after.

I purchased a new computer and wanted to keep my old IDE drives. The StarTech external drive enclosure works great. The HD was easy to install and as a plus the enclosure has a cooling fan. Product works better than expected.

Press the release and the carriage pops right out for easy drive change. My WD 1TB Green fit nicely into carriage. It then snaps right in place. No screws! Good size fan ventilates the aluminum case very well. I've haven't felt any warmth on the case since I've owned it. Fan noise is similar to my PC's fan and is not at all a nuisance.(Might be if it was next to your head) Of course the SATA is very fast. When you turn it on, the drives mount in seconds. I'm running Win7 32-bit. I originally was looking to buy a fixed external HD, but liked the idea of picking the HD that I wanted. It was very easy to install. The case is attractive, and all materials are of good quality. No complaints, I love it!

Pros: Great design!
Comment:
I bought this because it was fully compatible with every drive I have older IDE and my new ones. I love how it is screwless design and you can just click you drive in. Having the option of USB or eSATA is a great bonus. It was an added surprise to see a fan with an exhaust on the side. My other external enclosure doesn't have a fan and I paid about the same price.I got this price matched I think it was well worth the money. This review was modfied by poster @ 01-14-10 04:27 PM

Cons: IDE drives are limited to only USB connectivity. SATA drives can use either USB or eSATA, but require you to make an internal cable change to enable one or the other - so no plug-n-play.

Pros: Support for both internal IDE or SATA drives and both external USB or eSATA connections to your host computer.

You cannot plug in an IDE drive to this chassis and use it as a eSATA connected drive as the product features and description might lead you to believe.

Cons: Cables at back, power button on front. Only supports eSata when Sata drive connected.

Pros: Supports IDE/Sata, USB/eSata. Keeps drive cool.
Comment:
Well constructed enclosure, fan is fairly quiet. Comes with all required cables with decent length. Very simple drive insatllation. Clean looking, however layout leaves something to be desired, external cables attack to back however power button is on front. Would buy again for sure.
