I set this up to share a destop storage drive between two computers. Works like a charm. Took it out of the box, plugged it in and went to work.

So far I cannot get my new iMac with the Intel processor to recognize this gadget's program that did install. The claim is that it is compatible with OS 10 or higher but I do not think it applies to Snowleopard OS. Can anyone offer help with this?

Works perfectly. Simple software download onto two XP computers for my kids. BTW, After asking the experts how to accomplish sharing one printer with two desktops for my use by my kids, they all had me buying routers and wireless print servers. I searched this site and found this nifty little thing

Has some eventual glitches, but made my computer faster since it did not have to look for the printer on the network.

I've had trouble with this device. I've had to re install it twice on the desktop, and sometimes when I switch from one computer to the other, nothing happens, & I have to plug in the USB cable directly from the computer to the printer to get the printer to work. It does work some of the time.

This product works perfect. I hooked this up in my daughters college dorm where she and her room mate share a printer. So far no problems..I have purchased another one for myself in my office. Money well spent

INEXPENSIVE, EASY HOOK UP, WORKS PERFECTLY. YOU DO NEED TO PRESS A BUTTON FOR WHICH COMPUTER YOU WANT TO PRINT FROM. SMALL INCONVENIENCE, BETTER THAN BUYING A SECOND PRINTER.

This device works as advertised, but it doesn't make the drive available to both computers simultaneously, which was what I expected. My bad for not reading carefully enough.

Used this product to share a printer between an XP computer and a Vista Ultimate with no problems whatsoever. I didn't even have to use the included software (the printer drivers were already on both machines), all I had to do was plug in the USB cables and it worked flawlessly.

Plugged it in, loaded the software on both machines, and it worked. Don't know why anyone would have a problem with this. Have tried others with negative results, but not this one. When I want to switch, I simply either click on the "balloon" on the machine to print or manually push the switch button.

While I have not used this product very long, it does work as stated sharing anything you need between two computers.

Followed the instructions in the manual, and I had both computers recognizing the printer. No issues at all with the setup; install software FIRST before connecting unit to PC's. There are two ways to switch computers: manually pressing a button on the unit itself or right clicking a prompt in the system tray.

Don't buy it unless you feel like tinkering with it for hours. What a piece of junk!

I too thought that this was a piece of junk that I would have to return. I kept getting the big blue error screen (3 times) and sending problem reports to Microsoft. Then I uninstalled the software and started over with the (shared) Canon Pixma MP780 printer unplugged from the power supply. I loaded the supplied software driver on my XP machine with only the switch connected. With the #1 green led on I applied power to the printer and printed an email from Outlook Express. Then I connected the switch to my Vista machine with another cable (not supplied) and switched to the green led for that machine. Vista detected the switch and loaded it's own software driver. Then I was able to print from Vista's e-mail.

My dad and I figured out how this thing works after several hours of tinkering. The little system tray icon shows: Green - the USB is idle and you can double click it to take control of the USB device (printer, scanner, etc), Red - USB being used by other computer, and Yellow means you have control of the USB. The idle Time-out value is the number seconds it keeps the little icon red after the other computer has used the USB device. The red light on the actual switch has to be on for autoswitching, you can push the button to just show the green LED for computer one only or computer 2 only, and one more time for autoswitching. When the LED is green for the corresponding computer it's ready to use. We both have XP machines and a HP Officejet 5500.We first figured out that the printer had to be reset which was giving us communication errors. Cables Unlimited should have supplied a readme on their little CD with the driver, it would have made it a lot easier.

I'm still waiting for a reply from Cables Unlimited. I'm a little disappointed in their lack of service. The product just doesn't work. PC #1 has Windows XP and PC #2 has Windows 98. Either one works good when connected directly to the printer. When using the hub, if I manually switch it, I can print from PC #2. PC one simply refuses to ''see'' the device at all. I have yet to get a reply from Cables Unlimited (after 2 tries). I'm not happy at all with this product so far.

This is the simplest product to use. My computers didn't require any software to use it. I just plugged both computers in and now just press whichever button for the computer I want to print from. So simple--quick shipping, worth the money~~

Once I got everything right it works really well, including the software, but the process was not simple. The software would not remember my printer setup, so I contacted Cables Unlimited. They came back the same day and said add this register key : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE=>Software=>justcom=>usbshare. Worked great after that. The installation of the software is dificult for multiple users, as permissions have to be changed and shortcuts moved

I purchased this item a couple of months ago. It was easy to set up and works great. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I have to click the icon in the system try for my printer to work (only have to do it once unless i switch back to my other computer) so its not very automatic (i might be doing something wrong though). other little problems are only comes with one cable, it would be better if all three ports were in the back, and the base is almost usless (keeps falling out of it) other than that its still better than switching cables all the time.

Cool little product! This USB switch works either via software(haven't tried that yet), or by simply pressing the button on the front, and it works quite nicely. A couple of nitpicks though.... it would've been better had they put all 3 ports on the back of the box, so the cables could be tucked away a little neater. The one thing that's kind of annoying, is that with using this sort of thing you want to use one peripheral on two computers, and of course you have the cable for that peripheral, but this product only comes with one USB cable, so you still have to buy another cable! I had a spare laying around, and the price of this item was lower when I bought it(plus a rebate), so that wasn't a big deal, but for the current price, this item really SHOULD come with the cables necessary to do the job.
