Works as you would expect any modem to work. Easy to install and configure on my Win7 system. Nice small footprint and worked when attached to a USB hub as well as directly to a usb port on the system board.

New computer modem knocked out via lightning. As PCI circuit bad, could not go online except through USB wireles - SO your USB Robotics 56K dialup modem was a lifesaver. Works great and thanks for having them available

Works just fine with my Macbook Pro. Took a little fine-tuning (on Mac's part, not the faxmodem), but able to send & receive with no problem.

a bit pricy, but you pay for what you get. bought as a gift for my dad in case a modem is required to connect in case of lack of ethernet. a bit annoying that i had to use the install cd instead of windows automatically attributing the correct driver but that's why the cd is provided. gets a little warm during use, i don't know if that's going to be a problem or not. solidly constructed. seems to be a proper product. i cannot compare to the cheaper ones available although i did browse before buying. this one just seemed more solid then the others and on up close inspection, that is the case. having the usb cable already connected is a plus for me instead of having to finagle with extraneous wires all the time.

I don't yet want to give this unit a bad reputation, but my unit puts out a lot of Radio Frequency Hash (interference), and the drivers won,t install. I wanted to use it with my con-currently bought EC1433u netbook which has no issues whatsoever, but no luck. It just don't work, Period. No Fault Of TigerDirect. They are GREAT!

PRO: Works, but have not been able to verify transmission speed when FAXing. Therefore, cannot accurately rate performance. CONS: Supplied BVRP FAX software does not utilize my sound card to provide audio so I can monitor establishment of FAX connection as I had expected.

I got this modem to relieve me of the headache finding a pci modem that would function on linux. The only stumbling block in getting it to function was finding the right port it had been mounted on. Typing dmesg in a terminal before plugging it in and then again after plugging it in will reveal the mount point you can use to in any of the fax programs you want to make use of. efaxgtk was my preference.

I needed a modem for my phone book with auto dialer & for Fax & compatible with windows 7. This fit my bill & has caller ID. Instructions say to remove any other modems before install & I had a bluetooth over USB, I guess from my cell phone (never used it)so had a little trouble with install. May not have needed to install it's software anyway & windows 7 has easier fax than the USR's. USB connection brings potability

This is my second 5637, to original is connected to my Linux internet gateway and has been in service over a year. The new modem is just a backup, or something to toss in my kit if I will be on the road and may not have wideband available.

This is the 2nd modem I had to buy, because the first one only worked a couple times. Don't buy the Filemate. Put that money on one that is dependable. This one works every time.

I needed an external modem so that I could connect to the internet when my cable modem went out. My mini computer does not have an internal modem. When I received this modem I plugged it in and it automatically installed and was ready to go right away. Works great and now I can get on line when my cable goes out.

I need a modem for software I use to capture phone calls and block them as necessary, so I needed a USB modem with CallerID capability. My new PC did not come with a modem, so this filled the bill. The nice part is, it is Caller ID capable (even though it doesn't say that anywhere in the write up - I had to go to USR's website to confirm), and I now have fax capability once again as well. It is extremely small and unobstrusive in the back of the PC. Could not ask for a better value for my dollar.

I am encouraged when you do an install and all does as expected and smooth. This product installed on my fussy 2003 server plat form and performs very well.

On Linux, it uses the cdc_acm kernel module that lets Linux see devices on the USB port as if they were serial port devices. (modprobe cdc_acm) That means your Linux dialup program sees ttyACM0 as a serial device, and your dialer checks if the serial device is a modem (it is). The Windows version does the same thing, but you need the ''new hardware'' wizard to go hunting on the CD that comes with the gadget. For those of you complaining about ''no reset'', it's called the ''ATH'' (AThangup) command, and your dialer program is supposed to send the hangup command to the modem when you disconnect. Make sure your Linux dialer is the KDE ''kppp'' program, and, at least for the Present, it should work just fine under Linux. Naturally, the Windows dialer sends the hangup command automatically, and there are no reset problems.

We have been relegated to using a dial-up connection this summer from our dsl at home. The US Robotics USB modem has worked very well considering we are in the very remote but beautiful regions of the mountains of Colorado.

Good value for those of us still stuck in Dial-up Land. I run SuSE 11.0 (linux) and the OS recognized the modem as soon as I plugged it in. Since this version of linux no longer support winmodems, I had no choice but to find a controller based alternative. My only pet peeve, and it's a small one, is that it has no reset. I can live with this, as I've only had to manually reset (unplug and replug) once since I installed this modem the first part of Nov. '08.

this modem works better than the internal one in my MacMini. It's also nice and small. The damn thing could use a reset button. I'd be pissed if I didn't have it jacked into a usb hub to facilitate unjacking it to reset without damaging the jacks on my mini.
