Great drive. I own 3 of these and snagged two about a week following they arrived on Newegg. Got the other one around December for a close relative. No challenges thus far, very rapid. Too terrible I paid much a lot more than they are going for now, but that's just more incentive to buy much more of them :) It's not a 2TB drive.... I work in the IT division for a university, majored in CS, and have been working with computer systems considering that the 386 was king and computer systems had a turbo button... if that says something. You can bet I've had my share of undesirable HDD's. Hah! Does any individual recall the Quantum Bigfoot? (<-Wikipedia it) Those were agonizing.

No issues! (knock on wood)...I have two of these drives operating and neither have had any troubles. They're quiet, tho a tiny louder than their 160GB version. My personal computer has been on for 99% of the time given that I purchased these a year ago and they're nonetheless going strong. None! If you're looking at obtaining it, just do it. They're a fantastic buy!

I got the drives in a affordable amount of time I bought two drives a RE3 1TB and a RE4 2TB. They arrived with no bubble wrap on a single side of the drive. The drives have been placed in the bottom of the box with no padding on the side that the bubble wrap popped on. I RMA'd them and ordered a different set of drives after complaining about the packaging. I just received the replacement drives and they have been packed precisely the similar as the initial set. I give up. Back they go.

can't list any when compared to less costly editions from western digital This drive was applied as storage drive (lightly employed). It was purchased as new drive. Soon after about 7 months, it all started by not becoming recognized in BIOS. After a even though (leaving it unplugged overnight), it began to be observed once more in BIOS. I ran WD tool and it gave quite a few errors.I contacted WD for replacement and they replied they are going to sent a factory recertified drive, rigorously tested although.Thinking of this drive was supposed to be rigorously tested in the very first spot, and mainly because it is labeled 'enterprise edition' and therefore WD charges a premium, I believe that I am a victim of false test reports from WD (declared MTBF 1,200,000 hours) and WD is a poor company that does not deserve the trust and the support (money) of their shoppers. I also purchased a RE4 edition, top rated notch they say, WD2003FYYS, 2TB enterprise edition drive, for 300. AND THIS One particular IS OVERHEATING by only getting in the machine (i.e., not applied for intensive access)! Other drives in the same machine run cooler. I have the big CoolerMaster CM690 case and additional fans in the case, plus an intelligent cable management design and style.Piece of j**k organization.

Certified for RAID use. 2 of 4 RE3 drives failed on initial RAID five installation. Disappointed that 2 of 4 WD RE3 drives failed on initial use. Newegg was quickly at issuing an RMA but it's taking ten days for the return by UPS and then I have to wait for replacements, possibly a different 5 to 10 days. I ordered all four drives with subsequent day delivery and will finish up waiting nearly a month for the replacements. In the meantime my technique is operating in Degraded status. Hope the other 2 drives last.

Reasonably priced & Dependable. They do what they say they do. none I've been using five of these drives with a Areca 1231ML in a SuperMicro M35T enclosure for the final 1.5 years in RAID-5 config. Server nonetheless running Windows XP. The mixture functions wonderful. I have the RAID card in the PCIe x16 slot of a consumer-grade Intel motherboard and get 𞵜MBytes/sec typical reads (tests performed with HD Tach). I expected 400-500MBytes/sec, but it's truly not something I'm as well concerned about.

The overall design and style is extremely durable. Western Digital is my preferred drive manufacturer. I've had Hitachi's, Maxtors, Seagate's, and Western Digitals. The only ones that ever stand the test of time are the WD's...... A bit pricy, but worth each penny.

I've had one particular of these for about a year and just ordered a second to develop a RAID 1 array in my desktop. They're not the cheapest out there, but I've had very good luck with WD's drives. Zero troubles with the older one particular, and the new one particular is ticking along nicely. Loud. The actuators make a lot of noise. Google "silent pc assessment". This internet web-site has a complete lot of good techniques for quieting difficult drives. Personally, I went down to the hardware retailer, purchased some small diameter bungee cords and some nylon zip ties, and place together my own spider internet suspension method inside my HP case. Decoupling it from the case cuts the noise level at least in half. Especially with two of them banging around in there (and trying to do audio recording nearby), this is fairly significant for me.I feel you can also adjust the really hard drive's AAM setting employing some WD drive utilities. This parameter modifications how quickly the heads move to get exactly where they're going when they do seeks. A reduce AAM value (like 128) means the heads move slower, make less noise, and do slower seeks. They default to something like 254, which has the heads moving quickly and producing a bunch of noise. It all depends how quiet you want items and if you're willing to give up a tiny speed. I purchased 1, then purchased one more, so naturally I'm a fan of these drives. Also purchased a 1.five TB Caviar Black for an external backup. Won't RAID that a single, so I don't want RE3. (Caviar Blacks no longer let you allow TLER, so you will need to shell out a handful of extra bucks for RE3 if you want RAID.)Get some bungee cords and get inventive, and you're set!

Runs nearly as quickly as a velociraptor but has additional storage space and is reasonably cheaper. Does run hotter than the typical 7200rpm drive but so far it hasn't brought on any problems. If you're taking into consideration a velociraptor but dont' want to spend the price tag AND you want more storage this is completely the way to go.

NONE! Purchased two drives initially. One was DOA, and I RMA'd it. That drive lasted Ӳ hours & the BIOS would hang & not recognize it. All drives are loud when energy is applied. Don't know how loud they are when in-use because I by no means got that far. They also all vibrate so much that it can be felt thru the case (can't be very good). Can't comment on overall performance or RAID functionality because none of the HDs have ever been utilised (e.g. formatted): Only connected. These drives were to be utilised for data (ZFS), but they fail prior to I ever get a likelihood to use them. I can't RMA these due to the fact I didn't set up/use them speedy adequate ྾ days). This is my final buy from newegg (never once again).

Dependable, Quiet, Rapid, Cool, fantastic for RAID5 w/o timeout errors. I have had 4 of these in a soft RAID5 array on my Linux MythTV DVR/server machine recording 2 to 10GB/day w/o any troubles. Not a single timeout or or resynch has been necessary in 6 months. These place all other disks (Seagte, Hitachi) I've utilized to shame. They are a bit pricey but worth it. Newegg's hard disk packing has enhanced! Please maintain packing the with a cushion among every drive!

I have a p6x58d-e motherboard which has marvel controller raid array. Even even though it handles SATA 6gb/s, I opted for a pair of these RE3's in raid . They are quiet, set up wonderful (use cntrl M for the marvel controller instead of cntrl I for the onboard Intel controller. Windows 7 64 bit sees them no problem, set up as an added NTFS drive. I opted for these because they are set up for RAID.. TLER is engaged so I should have no dropout issues. You do pay about 60 bucks additional for every single drive, but I want reliablility. ?price.. would be nice if they have been less expensive

RAID certified Enterprise tough drive Of six new WD RE3 1TB drives, four failed on initial RAID 5 installation. Newegg is good and replaces them instantly, with about a 2 week turnaround. They are installed on a higher-finish system: Intel i7 975 CPU with 12Gb RAM and ASUS P6T Motherboard. Final two failures: 2ቨቦ and twoቩቦ. That failure price is on initial installation, proper out of the box. Of 6 new RE3 tough drives, only two, purchased 1ቪ񳏊, continue to operate in degraded RAID five status.

Purchased two of these drives. They came exactly as expected. Bare drives were sealed in electrostatic bags and wrapped in bubble wrap and placed inside person boxes. The drives installed simply, again as anticipated. Placed into a RAID 1 array. Formatting took approximately 19 hours. The drives have been running error free of charge ever due to the fact. They are quiet. None so far. Was very pleased with shipping. The drives had been completely wrapped and secured. Received the drives in significantly less than 48 hour which was NOT anticipated. Very good job, Newegg!

Quick! Acquiring an enterprise drive for a house desktop was possibly overkill, but I got a decent deal! Bit noisy and runs warm - the value of performance I guess. Temperature touched 50C when carrying out a 100GB copy. I later utilised acoustic management to slow down the drive, and its actually quiet now. Its my backup drive, so the disk is asleep most of the time (I set spin-down time to about 30 minutes).Use the efficiency only when you really require it.

Exactly what I wanted. I was shocked to discover this exceeded my expexctations. Drive is really fast for a 7200 rpm drive and shocked me when I ran HD Tack on it to uncover it performing near what my Velociraptor 150 does! Not quite as rapidly, but for a 7200 rpms drive surprisingly close. Quite quiet and cool operating drive. 32 Meg Cache and the Dual Processors equal real overall performance just as advertised. This is a Caviar Black RE3 Enterprise class drive with a 1.two MILLION Hour MTBF (Mean Time Ahead of Failure). You get what you spend for with these drives, and it was excelent value with the particular Newegg had running at the time of acquire. Substantial Storage Definitely. This is why I purchased this drive. Formatted with Windows installed it showed to be a tiny over 1002 GB. That was right after a normal windows NTFS Format. None. This drive does precisely what I purchased it for, and has done exactly what was advertised. It even exceeded my expectations when I benchmarked it. This is a substantial drive. FOr these that have never had a drive this huge you will need Windows XP SP2 or above if you still use, or dual boot with XP. If you use earlier versions of XP the drive will not be recognized properly. You Should have SP2 or later on the disk of the OS you format with or only a tiny more than 131,000 MB will be recognized. I knew this, but thought I'd pass that along to others in case they didn't know about that. I perdonally have a tri-boot setup truly on a myriad of drives with XP SP3, Vista, and Win7. Western Digital has served me incredibly well, and i stick with them, since they have by no means let me down. I have had a drive failure in the past, but that was mnay years immediately after expected Finish of Life, and I had backups. I've tended to stick with Caviar Black drives and the Velociraptors for my overall performance drives. Under no circumstances after has a Western Digital Item let me down.

4 Drives working in Windows 2008 Server SW Raid 5.Following formatting, that came out to two.six TB... Packaging was suspect. The bubble wrap did not completely encompass all 4 drives. I was a small concerned when I received all 4 drives, and noticed that the bubble wrap did not completely enclose all 4 sides of the drives... Plus the box that it came in was too major, and they utilised paper to fill up the space, but it does not appear like there was enough to quit the drives from shifting inside the box.1st factor I did, was stick it into the servers, and run WD's full disk diagnostics. Surprising they ran clean. Then I proceeded with configuring all four drives in a RAID 5 Set. Have been using the RAID five for the three-four months with not major problems. Have loaded over 150 GB so far.At times, the RAID five stops responding, and can see that at least 1 of the drive's Queue Length went up, and stays up from anyplace for a couple seconds to about a minute. I don't assume this is a drive difficulty. Possibly Windows 2008 SW RAID five implementation is faulty.

Although seems costly subsequent to the non-RE series drives, it is really a decent price tag per GB for these who want a very good Raid system...and totally free shipping to boot. Great New Egg buyer service as usual, as I have come to anticipate over time. I ordered three of these drives, a single constantly dropped off the Raid from the start off. New Egg present RMA without having discussion...when that may look like a con...I have never peronally had an problem with any drive, though it clearly can occur. Don't blame WD as that can come about with any manufacturer. The other two drives are running rock strong. No cons. I am thoroughly satisfied even believed I had a challenge with a drive...NewEgg gets the credit for backing up what they sell according to their return policy, clearly stated for each and every item. If you don't like the return policy, shop elsewhere. It is nevertheless a free of charge country, at least for the time becoming!!!! Two thoughtsɅ) I continue to use other major brand drives that squeek out slightly far better overall performance outcomes in tech evaluations. Under the proper environment, their may really be a noticable difference. I am just household user operating a Win SBS server with exchange, and a network primarily based sharable file method (in a raid). My bottleneck is the 1gb CAT6...not a couple of milliseconds of overall performance in the disk I/O. I can not tell the distinction in overall performance in between these drives and their counterparts from other brands becoming upgraded. The decrease price for the WD drove my buy choice...the WD drives are quieter.2) A lot of individuals gripe about WDs value point for the RE series drives. Google search and realize TLER before passing judgment. Fully grasp that a 财 RE drive versus a ๪ non-RE drive is not an equal comparison. True, WD did not have to disable TLER in one particular series vs the other, but they did, and that is known as Advertising and marketing. A premium feature comes with a premium price.
