Two years of heavy use; disk runs without having error or problem . Age does not noticeably have an effect on speed. Though it is not disturbingly loud, it is remains louder than any of my other components. Value has only dropped โ due to the fact when I purchased it two years ago. I would look to other goods unless this drops closer to the 贄-110 range .

Rapidly I have not had a VelociRaptor drive final far more than 3 years. two years ago my 74G VelociRaptor died after getting it for three years. I sent it back to WD beneath warranty and purchased a 150G VelociRaptor to replace it whilst I waited for a new drive from WD. I've had this 150G drive for 2 years and it just died. Disk I/O error. Fortunately it was a system set up drive, not my method or data drive. I will not acquire an additional VelociRaptor drive and when I get my replacement for this a single I will be positive to use it for a thing unimportant.

Does a very good job. Noticeably faster than my 7200RPM WD caviar black that I utilised to run my OS from. Heatsink does a excellent job, stays cooler than my WD RE3 that is in a similar setup. Not as rapid as SSD. Not rather massive adequate to do any actual storage, but a small as well big for just an OS drive.

Installed Win 7 Pro with no problems. Have no difficulties however. I am not seeing ANY noticible speed superiority from this drive compared to any ol' 7200 RPM drive.Price for functionality is deffinantly NOT worth it. I have a laptop with a 7200 RPM drive and it's Windows practical experience rating is a five.9 (read write speed). A lot more funds, Much less Capacity Identical speed read/write Windows 7 PRO 64bitCore i5 - 7508GB RamNot worth the additional income. I purchased 1 and had to replace it due to the fact it wouldn't hold an OS stabily.

Fast, responsive, a enormous upgrade from my 7200RPM. Low gigabyte per dollar but that's to be anticipated for the speed. I had an situation when installing Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit but it was a new make and it could have been any quantity of problems. I'm not positive if it was this drive or not. I finally got it working.

i genuinely like these issues, excellent option to a raid or ssd con field is necessary... that is a con. occasionally a shot in the dark if these issues will be bad or not, but my experience has been that they're about as dependable as 7200rpm drives now, so may well as nicely if you need the speed.

I like the two.5" drive in a 3.five" adapter/heatsink Unrepairable negative blocks.I have to replace this tough drive and revert to a backup.. I can't RMA this simply because I didn't set up it until a couple of weeks immediately after it arrived. Then it took me a when to realize there was a problem and diagnose the bad blocks. WD diagnostic tools confirm the drive is unrepairable.

This drive is really rapidly and properly worth the handful of further bucks you spend for the 10,000 rpm speed. I uncover it incredibly interesting that so numerous persons say they received really hard drives that were DOA. I seriously consider a lot of them don't know what they are undertaking. This drive showed up un-initialized so it could not be formated through Windows. I utilised Western Digitals "Data Lifeguard Tools" which are totally free from their web-site and formated it without a hitch. My guess is that there are a lot of folks out there that do not recognize that that is readily available. I can inform you I have bought a lot of challenging drives thru the years and In no way has one particular arrived DOA. Great job Newegg, 5 eggs for this go quickly drive. None at all

Fast and Dependable describes this drive completely. No frills, no ridiculous advertising gimericks, and completely no sugar coating. What you see listed in the specs is what you're going to get. You won't uncover any "guestimated" time of life on these simply because they are style to final a while. Hence the 5 year warranty. Would love to see a SSD match that (most only have a 1 to three year warranty) and these silly guesstimated time of life is only in optimal situations. Which indicates if you infant sit it (applying your tweats and weekly maintenance) and constantly renew these flash cells (remember people they are only new as soon as). Not so with this VelociRaptor. Just do your monthly, or however you really feel like, defragmenting and you'll often be at optimal speeds. In addition, you have to adore transferring Massive and tiny data files with no stuttering whatsoever. No matter what it is: music, games, music editing, video editing, blu-ray, and so forth, it is going to transfer them smoothly and flawlessly. Like with all electronics, there are some Cons:*Does Run slightly warm, but NOT HOT. Keep in mind these are the new batch of VelociRaptors (mine was manufactured on April of this year) so mind you they're a important improvement from its predecessors. Now a four.99 cooling fan can very easily repair the warmness dilemma, which newegg sells in abundance.*The Icypack mounting frame does make it slightly heavy. So make certain you have a sturdy difficult drive cage and utilizing screws. You'll be hard press to get your tool-significantly less tough drive installation parts to perform with these.*If you do your math, hopefully you have, the speed distinction only equals to about 38-47% more quickly than your normal 7200 RPM drive. It varies due to the catching involved and what minor tweaks you apply. Overall, if you know what you're obtaining into, you'll really like it. If not, do your analysis Initial if the speed will satisify you! I was on the fence about getting a SSD as nicely. Spent quite a few an hours browsing forums, dealing with forum members (let's face it, they're helpful at initially but eventually start throwing their e-temper tantrums), reading reviews, blogs, pc gaming internet websites, and so forth. Soon after a when, you'll have all sorts of opinions and information that you won't know what to believe. Began emailing product manufactures and sooner or later got some truth. SSDs are the quickest, but aren't the most reputable yet. There are still quite a few pitfalls to them and what these "sugar-coating" forum members forgot to inform you. They're not designed to final, hence the quick-term warranties Ƒ-3 years). Now that could be mentioned of all really hard drives, but you will notice signifant reduce in performance in SSDs. Ultimately, within eight-12 months, they'll drop about 50% of their total speed. And that is with everyday maintenance, trim enabled, recessitation of flash cells (gotta enjoy when they contact it that), and firmware flashes.

The specs are seriously impressive... ...as well undesirable I never ever had a opportunity to see how impressive. I purchased this drive to replace an older Raptor drive that soon after three years, was beginning to act quirky. The installation of Windows 7 went off without having a hitch. Almost everything was fine, loaded all my applications on, and all was fine for exactly 12 hours. The next morning I booted, seemingly with out situation, into Windows and then anything started to CRAWL. Sooner or later I killed the power because absolutely nothing was happening, mistake. Now it will only boot far adequate to inform me, "Hey, there is some thing incorrect with the boot files, do you want to repair?" Saying yes only brings a very depressing seeking black screen. The most infuriating component of this entire approach was I downloaded 3 weeks worth of e-mails the night ahead of and I distinctly believed to myself, "I ought to back up the PST files, just in case. Eh, I'll do it in the morning." Of course, if I had simply told Outlook to leave a copy of the messages on the server - stupid, I know - I would be FAR significantly less angry than I am. I did not. So now Western Digital have to feel my anger also.If you are fortunate sufficient to get a working one particular be sure to backup regularly.

Great cost, quiet operating. extended warranty. Not quite what I wanted wrt speed. I genuinely see no appreciable difference amongst this drive and a WD Blue that I was running. Undoubtedly Windows doesn't see any. Will run further diagnostics and see what turns up. Nevertheless, good cost, quiet operating, extended warranty.

Raid- 2 drives w/ 64kb stripe 100-120MBs create, 200-220MBs read on an Asus P5n-DA lot greater selection for nVidia motherboards than SSD as most nForce chipsets lack the AHCI interface required for correct SSD operation. With a devoted true-RAID card they need to get superior overall performance than the fake-raid motherboard chipset but I don't have 1 to evaluate yet.SSD's appear to need to have a lot of "hacking" to perform appropriately on various OS configs and with their high price and lack of history these 10K drives are really the easiest and safest way to delight in the "next ideal point" to SSDFor the expense I consider finding two of these 150gb drives for raid- is a significantly far better value than one (or two) 300gb VelociRaptor. For Linux (or windows) you don't seriously will need that significantly storage for OS/Programs/Data, bulk storage is easier and safer with separate e-sata TB drives. None so far When ordering baredrives from newegg, its generally a good thought to bundle the order with various other non-harddrive things even even though Newegg has truly improved their shipping (tiger stuck pricey WD-RE4 drives in modest boxes with NO protection on two edges, nonetheless they "seem" to be working). With newegg, both the bare drives have been wrapped on all sides with thick bubble wrap and stuck in a cardboard "bumper", and placed in the center of the box with peanuts on each sides. The bottom of the package contained an empty harddrive caddy in its personal box and the best numerous cables/small components with peanuts mixed in, practically nothing shaked and i'm confident it survived the football game that is UPS.

Considerably faster than regular HDD's in random reads and study/write intensive applications. No where close to the speed of a SSD For all these of you that are reviewing this drive on the basis of Windows Knowledge Index, please get a clue on how to price HDD efficiency. Windows Encounter Index is NOT a accurate indication of how rapidly or responsive your HDD is. If you want to load your games quicker, update windows, and run a virus verify all at the same time and not be bogged down then you want this drive. If you want to swap files and load windows more rapidly get a SSD. If you don't believe the performance bump in Soft RAID with this drive justifies the cost then you are proper. Soft RAID is only there to give redundancy, for real efficiency raise in RAID you will need to spend $$$ on a real hardware RAID card.

Extremely rapidly, quiet and a lot more reputable than the present generation of SSDs. Also stores about two-3 occasions additional information for the exact same price tag. It's not as rapid as SSD. Not certain why they bothered to put the heat sink on this HD, it runs cooler than my older 7200 RPM drive...but I guess it looks cool. ;)Hopefully SSD technologies will mature sufficient to match the reliability and value of these drives soon!

So its quickly(ish), uncomplicated to install, and quiet. Anything you want in a hard drive. I have a 7200 challenging drive and a 10k challenging drive in the exact same Pc and ill be honest, ive tested xfering files to both and the distinction is quite minimal. Dont get me wrong it is quicker, but for the price of 150 gig you can get like 2 TB drives. In retrospec, I am NOT unhappy with the drive at all. I think i was expecting a big (noticable) differnce but just got a slight jump. I do wish i went with the greater drive space tho. 1 issue of note tho.... this drive KEEPS growing in cost for some cause. I have been monitoring nearly each day. I managed to get it for 79 bucks with a unique a month ago when it was promoting for 99. Now its up to 129. CRAZINESS. For 79 bucks its wonderful but for 129. Get a 7200 two TB drive. Youll be much more satisfied.
