QuickPretty Quiet Nothing, but if I had to nitpick, it does run hotter than the 1TB WD Black (WD1001FALS) it replaced. I benchmarked board prior to using it (Intel P55 primarily based MB). I get a 165MB/sec read and 156MB/sec create, which is just about 50MB/sec more rapidly than my old 1TB WD Black.I didn't truly need a new drive for my method. I had lots of space available obtainable on the 1TB WD Black, which I have been using difficulty totally free for 1.5 years.I use an eSATA dock and a HD from my old program for everyday backups. The backup drive was operating low on space, so I was originally hunting to buy a replacement for it. NewEgg had a sale at just the appropriate time, and I picked this drive up as an alternative. I now use it for my principal method drive and retired the old 1TB to backups.

Rapidly!!! Like any other drive, runs and lets you install files, think about that! It is reliable! I need far more! I use two of these drives in my raid server setup employing a Promise 4300 raid card. Functions flawless, no problesm setting up, and has been steady with NO problems!

Big drive, rapid, quiet. Ran well until it died. Fantastic cost. Drive died on me without having warning when attempting to access a file. Hung my entire method and brought on all drives (five altogether) to show as failed until this one particular was removed from the technique. This just occurred this evening; I'm attempting to see what I can do about recovering information. I want to RMA this, but there is sensitive and confidential information - and not just mine - on this drive and I can't threat it. Appalling that this should be taking place.I was in the process of using this as my key reside backup drive and I was transferring over and sorting out backups following providing this drive a data-heavy dry run of about 4 weeks to test reliability. Because it continued steady I started gradually moving more than information and organizing it, whereupon I was going to make an image for off-drive / multidrive redundant backup storage. This would have been the primary backup, and two pictures would have been kept on separate drives for redundancy. So a lot for fantastic intentions. I am furious about this nonsense. This is the newest drive I own, and it must not be failing soon after a mere three months of use. Judging by the noises the drive is producing, this is most probably a straight-up hardware failure that is going to be a incredibly, quite costly headache to recover data from. Nearly all my drives have been Western Digital in the previous; all my internal drives are WD correct now. If this is what WD considers "quality" these days, they can bite me. There is no excuse for this. The least they can do is cough up the cash for the data recovery that desires to be done as a outcome of their shoddy workmanship. Tested for a month, failed immediately after two months of moderate use? No excuse for this. I am going to be really wary of WD drives in the future. It's a shame.

quiet operation, big storage space Drive started to slow down soon after 3 months of use. It would take a quite extended time to seek and push information like films and music. If slowed to a crawl immediately after 3 months of use, making it unusable for my HTPC. Dissapointed to say the least, particularly because Seagate excellent slipped im not confident who to get any longer. I have two of these drives, and only one went negative on me so far***

I've located the WD Black drives to just be all about excellent drives. They get really hot. I've had these drives for about three months and use them to store video. I'm gambling a bit and have them in a RAID a single. Considering that TLER is disabled they are potentially not as reputable for RAID use. At the starting of their use my RAID controller would throw a warning message regarding the integrity of the RAID array. I ran Windows disc error check and produced certain any errors have been repaired. Since that time I haven't had any additional warnings about potentially losing the array.

Quite quiet, quite fast, no troubles with the drives but โ off per drive would have been nice :) I'm operating 3 of these in a Linux software program RAID-five array (Ubuntu 10.ten) as my file and media server. Efficiency is pretty great, haven't had any hiccups....I'm operating VM's off the array as nicely as hosting my videos, music, and so forth. Looking at receiving two-3 additional to develop my RAID array.

I had gotten this challenging drive following what I had thought was my final one crashing. (Turns out it didn't and the energy cable just malfunctioned.) So I had purchased this drive after seeing the very good critiques and wanting to upgrade my overall space. 鴺 GB to 1.five TB is a large upgrade!) -Lots of space. I partitioned this issue into tw 1.25 TB and 250 GB partitions (One for Windows and One for Fedora)-Really quick! 7200 RPMs is a lot of speed! I can write things superfast!-Low cost! I got this for only 120 dollars soon after the two day shipping and rush ordering. -Other items! I'm terrible at reviews! Seriously about my only complaint is that this new difficult drive requires longer to boot up from standby mode. Taking into consideration I nearly by no means turn off my laptop this is a small bit of an problem, but not huge. Great drive, and inexpensive too. If you will need the space, go for it!

Spindle is quiet, looks cool, 64MB cache is a plus in theory... AMAZINGLY NOISY actuator!! I've been constructing Pc's for 20 years and normally don't care significantly about noise - I don't go out of my way to build "quiet Computer's" - but the rotary voice coil on this thing is literally as loud as the *stepper motor* on an old ST225 MFM drive. It actually sounds like a popcorn popper on all random seeks :(However, it's also somewhat slow compared to a different brand of 1.5TB drive I bought at the identical time, which I seriously didn't expect. I've utilized and liked Western Digital for a Very long time (more than 15 years), hope this was just one particular poor design, and that the noise level isn't an indicator of anticipated reliability (especially given that I purchased a handful of of them).

Really few. Drive requires forever to spin up, 1st drive died inside a week, the RMA drive died slightly right after a month, and I am now out of RMA status. There is no point in obtaining any type of warranty on it simply because I want to at least try to recover the files. Steer clear of this drive if you ever have to turn the difficult drive or your pc off a lot more than when a year. The size of the drive is also misleading. You can only get about 1.2TB out of it, and I under no circumstances even reached speeds close to three.0Gb/s. Fastest I ever got was 1.1Gb/s on eSATA. Been working with as an external to recover from my other dead Western Digital that lasted 5 years as an external. This one particular couldn't manage small over a month. If you don't use it as an external, it could be fine.

If I had far more dollars I would have got the two Terabyte drive, but this drive was such a deal, I couldn't pass it up.

Awesome Speed.5 yr warranty.fantastic price tag. none I never had a issue with black drives. I shop and transfer files from 5K to 200GB in size regularly. I have drives in generally on computers and in computer systems that are turned on and off an average of 7 occasions a day. On additional note you will not get a rating higher than five.9 even with raid with any tough drive in windows 7. This doesn't mean that your speed is capped also. To break this cap you will need to have a SSD.

Rapid 7200 RPM drive with 64MB of cache. Good value as well. I also received the drive in 1 day too, thanks to Newegg's quickly service. Portion of the plastic covering the extraneous pins (never applied them) was broken off of the drive. But, this didn't effect the drive as far as I can inform. So, I didn't eliminate an egg simply because of it. I am almost certainly going to buy 1 additional of these drives to up my method to 4.five TB in the close to future. I have lots of videos and audios that I have ripped for simple playback on my home theater Computer. A lot simpler and more rapidly than loading DVD's and CD's

The disk performs effectively: hdparm -t /dev/sdb/dev/sdb: Timing buffered disk reads: 436 MB in 3.00 seconds = 145.15 MB/secAnd, it has a excellent value-point. The first a single was DOA. I was able to clone my old drive to the new drive, but it acted really badly: Slow reads, lots of timeouts, format operations taking WAY as well extended (days vs. minutes). smartctl showed the number of bad sectors to be very high, ranking the drive as PRE-FAIL.I RMA'ed the drive with NewEgg. The replacement appeared in a week. It appears to be fine. Performance is excellent. Nevertheless, with all the undesirable drives, I have to wonder about the lifetime of my "good" replacement. My drive is working now, but I don't sleep very good at night, when I believe about it. Substantial, quiet drive. Decent warranty. RMA procedure is quite nice, but you shouldn't will need that. After three months of occasional property use (web browsing, word processing), effectively ventilated case, computer system powered on significantly less than 3 hours a day, Windows started throwing errors on boot. Downloaded manufacturer's application, which noted a complete bunch of challenges. Applied for RMA based on that. RMA drive was shipped in a tiny amount of packaging, and I confident hope it wasn't dropped significantly on the way. Failing so swiftly is NOT a good sign.

Really fantastic price for the accessible storage capacity of these drives. Like the title says, I purchased 5 of these drives to be utilized in a Drobo FS. They have been in service for a tiny over a month. Nowadays 1 of them failed in spectacular style by creating a really loud pop. I believed somebody had set off a fire cracker or fired a cap gun in my office. The rest are ok and Drobo is rebuilding the information protection. Often have backups!

Super Rapid, rock strong, have however to have any issues what so ever (knock on wood) none A couple of critiques down, Jon was mentioning how his drive in Win7 was always going to sleep ever so frequently. Mine doesn't do that and you may possibly want to verify your energy saving region for power down drive when not in use. If you have an ASUS board like me, appear in the EPU-six Engine and in every single setting's properties there is a energy down drive as effectively and turn that off, in particular is you are using it regularly as Jon is stating. Hope that assists ya'll out there. I was gonna get the 2TB these days but study some not so excellent testimonials about it failing alot so I'm purchasing an additional 1 of these to pair up with my current one particular.

Least expensive name brand, decent critiques on efficiency. Win7 wouldn't even set up due to impending drive failure, and it wouldn't format out under Ubuntu. Purchased the black drive for supposed reliability. Must have avoided the Western Digital brand for their history of failed drives on my machines. Newegg must allow persons to trade in/up without a restocking charge. Good cust svc, but I've discovered the value of obtaining nearby with this a single.

nice storage room for the price tag, i was particularly delighted with it at initial. It's failing me at about 6 months. 1st my screen would freeze for a handful of seconds and i'd hear the drive spin up, Went to boot up my personal computer this morning and it wanted me to run a disk scan. turns out it's failing and it now desires me to back anything up and replace the hd. I would recommend paying for the more expensive version of this hd, when I got mine in the mail the brown shipping box was beat up and the hd was on the quite bottom of the box covered by an antistatic bag and packing peanuts on top. You may be better off just going to your neighborhood tech retailer that way if your drive does fail it wont take two weeks to get a new one. i have to begin the whole rma over once again. second time i've had to rma a product purchased and shipped from newegg. they have wonderful bargains and i loved their service at very first but i'm starting to heavily reconsider my partnership with F r y s.

Drive efficiency is great. Read/write times are great. Load cycles are by way of the roof and at the rate they are going, both drives I ordered will surpass the 300,000 threshold in just more than a year. I researched this on WD's internet site to see what could be done. Followed all suggestions by WD with regards to power saver settings in the OS. I contacted WD assistance to see if they had a utility to adjust the head parking comparable to what they have for other drive models. They do not. That is unfortunate and a true turnoff for me from WD. I have utilised their drives exclusively for over a decade and never ever had this concern in the past.
