Cons: Slightly pricier than a regular HDD.

Pros: Excellent for PVR applications.

I have this attached to the Arris Gateway from Shaw and it works very slick. I installed it in a Vantec Nexstar CX 3.5in eSATA External Hard Drive Enclosure and it has been ticking away nicely with no hiccups for a couple of weeks now.If you're looking for an expander for your Gateway, I would highly recommend this drive as they are specifically designed for PVR deployment!

High Capacity I ordered 3 of these drives. One was dead when it arrived and two were so complete of errors that Windows could not even format them. Newegg was good in obtaining these swiftly swapped out and so far all 3 are operating wonderful! Hopefully it was just a negative batch that I very first received! These were truly to replace some HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 HDS723020BLA642 drives that I bought 1st. Even the Hitachi replacements were dead, so no more Hitachi for me!

This five-egg rating is primarily based on obtaining opened the box just now and seeing that NewEgg has turned more than a new leaf... err, egg. This is the greatest-packed bare really hard drive I have received of the quite a few I've purchased here. In a good box, wrapped in bubble wrap, then slipped inside a heavy cardboard sleeve, then packed nicely in foam peanuts. I am impressed. Preserve this up, guys, and you DOA really hard drive body count is going to go way down. Thanks! Haven't run it however, and am ecstatic about the packaging, so NO CONS. Seriously, I genuinely appreciate the care you took with this order.

Came as advertised. A bare 2 TB drive, unformatted, wrapped in bubble wrap inside a box. Evaluate this HDD with others that have a 64MB cache. You can't beat the value. Honestly, do you really need the format CD and fairly packaging? None for me!

Super capacity. I put three in an Intel DX58SO2 for a RAID five array. Sadly, Windows 7 can't manage that so I will try the server upgrade when I save some far more funds. Incredibly rather and runs cool. The High point rocket cards work as advertised, but look at meticulously your card slot needs none

Massive drive, huge cache, low heat/ energy. Making use of four in a RAID 1Ʈ setup, playback is smooth, no noticible spin up noise. It requires _forever_ to transfer TB's of information.... not genuinely WD fault.... Solid drive, fine value, what's not to like?

None however Can not set up My HDD 2T/WD WD20EURS 64M arrived DOA; no vibration and not recogniable by BIOS. Paid the ป shipping fees and returned it for a replacement.Installed the replacement and left the formatting procedure operating overnight. By the following morning it had ended with an error. Upon analysis dicovered that Windows XP requires a pin on 7-eight. Hadn't read the packing and label which contained the exact same info. I had overlooked the labeling as the standard 'static electricity' warning. My error.Added pin 7-eight but couldn't delete or format the drive. Removed pin 7-eight and tried to delete the partition but could not. Replaced pin 7-8 and the drive was no longer recognized by the technique even BIOS.Upgraded bios with the most up-to-date version F9. Checked drivers and only the sound driver needed upgrading which I didn't do.Windows XP SP3Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L/S3LQ6600 @ two.40 GHztwo MB RamWDC WD800JD - 75MSA3 (primary)Any suggestions....

Extremely Quiet, acceptably cool, low power. Quite quiet doesn't possibly get the point across; you can not hear them a handful of inches away - no matter whether idling, searching for, or writing. At least when mounted in isolation racks. No problem whatsoever streaming video at DVD/Mpeg2 resolution. ฮ premium more than the garden wide variety of Seagate / WD 2TB drives. I've filled two of these 3ǚ full with video on a house built HTPC. Taking into consideration how extended that took, the ฮ premium doesn't seem too undesirable... supplied that the drives final as long as I expect (Until cost-effective four-6TB drives are readily available).

WD good quality, very affordable expense per Gb. none Purchased two as they are replacing the 1Tb Raid1 array storage drives I've outgrown in my Server. Other than the three-4 days it took to run the initial checks for each and every one particular (they are substantial and that time was anticipated) it was a painless hook them up, define the new array and copy the data encounter.

This is a great price tag for the quantity of storage size. It takes a lengthy time to fully format, but is properly worth it for the size of the tough drive. Despite the fact that it took just as lengthy for the 2TB Seagate that I also bought from NewEgg. So this is not that large of a con. I purchased two of these tricky drives in November. At initial they were obtaining errors and believed that issue was the tricky drive given that the SSD that I purchased with it worked just fine. I next believed it was a challenge with Vista since I could format the very first half of the tough drive soon after partitioning the hard drive. Ultimately it turned out that the NVIDIA SATA drivers, that Window's Update installed through an update, would only identify hard drives up to 1.1 TB. Immediately after downloading the most current SATA driver on the NVIDIA internet site, I could totally format the whole challenging drive. If you are experiencing the very same problems, update your SATA driver just before returning the difficult drive.

- none due to the fact of unreliability - acquire a number of drives and make confident you are in some kind of failure recovery mode (RAID 1, RAID10, RAID5) due to the fact at least 1 drive you acquire WILL fail I bought these understanding how frequently all drives more than 1TB fail. And now right after three months of moderate use, in the mode for which they were created as media server drives, the very first has failed. When purchasing drives more than 1TB the only factor to appear at is how extended the warranty period is because that's all that matters.

Passed Intelligent check out of the box.Now writing it with random data in prep for encryption. Almost certainly about 20 hrs to go.Appears to operate fine. This is my initially WD drive. I feel each other HD I've personally owned has been Seagate. None encountered. Can't speak to the performance query. I'm working with this over USB to make an encrypted backup of all my information, which signifies it's speed limited.(Using on Ubuntu LTS Linux.)

Functions excellent, no difficulties. None I'm not positive why previous evaluations complained about poor Newegg packaging. These drives were packaged great!. They were wrapped in thick bubble wrap, then individually boxed. Then those boxes were placed in a larger box with more padding. You couldn't ask for greater packaging then that!. Good job Newegg!

I rate these a five mainly because I have had 5 operating in a RAID considering that November, and I have a pair running in a RAID for more than a month. They're quiet and relatively cool. All 7 of these drives passed a read/write badblocks test (every block is written and then read back, and the contents are verified). None. I'm concerned about how NewEgg packages these drives for shippingsince this month, I ordered another 5 drives. 1 was DOA -- thecontroller wouldn't recognize it. 1 failed a badblock scan fully. One survived most of a bad block scan, but about 400 million poor blockshad been detected. Two passed complete poor block scans. The 5 drives from this month were in a styrofoam container with bubblewrap and that was placed in a box with INSUFFICIENT BROWN PAPERpacking materials. I think this packing led to 3 of 5 failures. In contrast, the last month's shipment was in cardboard cariers thatwere packed in an additional box with PEANUTS; and the 5 from November, although in styrofoam with bubble wrap, also employed PEANUTS.

64mb Cache is what led me to this drive, cost was what completed the deal. These drives are meant to run 24ǝ so reliability for a home RAID should be there. As i mentioned, two weeks down, so in theory, they need to be OK for the MTBF. Silent operation. SLOW. There are no true RPM ratings for these drives given that they are 'green.' I in no way saw the 130mb/s speeds. Making use of 3 of these in a RAID 1E resolution on my LSI 9211-8I. Formatting took 1.5hrs for drive 1, and two.five hrs for the other two. Then after the array was set up, it was a different three hours to format them in the suitable block size. With all of that info, i get around 85mb/s true read speed. Bursting to 140mb/s for about 3 seconds. The write speed is pretty poor, 40mb/s or so, but that's a lot to do with the parity bit on the RAID. All in all, i have 3TB of redundant space with a single drive fault tollerance. When the array had completely synchornized, i was able to see the max speeds listed above. If you do a lot of moving data, go to the 7200RPM black, but if you just shop data, these are great. Make sure to at least RAID 1 with so significantly information.

Dunno, it's shiny? Drive would not format. No need to have to pay return shipping. Call new egg client service. For defective stuff they will send you a pre-paid return shipping label and not charge the restocking. You have to call although.

This is a incredibly quiet drive. I have to take the cover off the case and put my ear up to it to just barely hear it. It is also fast (see other thoughts). It is also optimized for audio and video. None The laptop or computer I just built is for a recording studio. It has to be silent. I utilized an SSD for the method and initially tried a black drive for AV which was too loud so I called WD. They told me to use a green drive. So I kept the black drive for back ups and bought this 1. I ran each test in the WD utility and it tested great. So I installed it into the computer. Following recording 33 files I transferred 31 of them 117 gig all in 1 shot to the black drive although at the very same time recording yet another. The transfer began at 58 mps. Then the ram began to load up and the transfer speed picked up as nicely peaking out at 109 mps. The speed held to the finish with an average speed was 106 mps for the whole transfer. This was whilst simultaneously recording a high definition file totaling over 6 gig to the green drive. The process utilized about 2 gig of ram. The drive is quiet, has a quick consistent speed and works with out a glitch. I suggest this drive.
