Replaced the CD/DVD drive in my older 13-inch MacBook Pro with this drive. Running it alongside a Samsung 840 SSD, which began to slow down after filling up. Moved all the non-essential files over to this drive and everything is running much better now.Coming from using an SSD only, this is certainly noisier but it's by no means unbearable.Getting both reads and writes at around 110MB/s using BlackMagic, about half of what I get with the Samsung SSD on SATA II. Great speeds for a laptop drive.Noticed some complaints about heat, not an issue I've had, have yet to see temps above 30 C.Great drive, would recommend.

This is being used as a secondary drive in an mitx computer. I originally had a full sized WD blue in the case but decided to try a WD black 2.5" drive. I've got about a half dozen WD Scorpio Blue drives that are 250GB in capacity. I just wanted to compare how the blacks fare against the blues in this form factorInitially the drive I received was DOA. It fails to be formatted beyond 17-25%. WD Datalife diagnostics freezes when it reaches the same threshold and it starts making clicking noises during drive access.RMA procedure couldnt get any simpler and easier. File RMA request, Get RMA number, bring to store, get replacement.Back to the drive. Naturally, since this is spinning at 7200 rpm it has a little bit more noise and vibration than the blue drives. It also runs a little bit warmer in an enclosed environment (such as inside a notebook), although for my application, it is in a relatively spacious case and never really broke the 30C temp (according to HW Monitor)As others have noted 750GB is the biggest black drive in this form factor. The 2.5 blue are available in higher capacities.Generally, as a data drive, the 2.5 black WD is definitely faster than the standard 2.5 blue drive. It even feels faster compared to the full sized 3.5 blue. A 3.5" should be faster sequential due to circumference and would make a much better boot drive but the 2.5" should be faster in randoms due to being short stroked compared to 3.5. Since I use an SSD for boot and OS, the 2.5 feels optimal for my application.

Overall, it's a standard drive. No issues with it other than heat but that could just be due to venting issues and not the drive itself. Overall, wish I could have got an SSD for this laptop but those are hit and miss on this model, so had to opt for the same brand of HDD that was originally installed, just a faster and bigger one.Heat is pretty bad. Goes as hot as 61 C which is bad, but average is 53-55C. I've been blowing fans on it to keep it down.If I had a choice, I would not buy unless I absolutely had to (which I did in this case). Otherwise if your laptop can handle SSD which most can, just go for it.

Replaced the factory drive in my PS4 with this drive. Seems pretty fast and heat, due to the faster RPMs doesn't seem to be a factor.It's better to replace the drive sooner than later because, unlike the PS3, the PS4 doesn't do backups so you have to redownload everything.Can't go wrong with the drive and the price is right.
