i bought this before the wdtv live came out, beside the painfully missing network port, there are custom firmware for it, so its not that bad. But at a 110$ i would not recommend it. |

This is the greatest little media player I've seen. It doesn't do everything but it does what it does great! Put in a USB flash drive OR external hard drive and it will play anything and everything on it. Highly recommended. |

Good product overall. It is physically compact and has a good feature set. It is great for a person who just wants to watch media files without needing extra frills like network connectivity or internal storage.It plays almost every format I've tried without problems. Standard definition, high definination with various different video and audio codecs all seem to work just fine. The only problem I've encountered is that playback of a DVD .iso is somewhat choppy.The "rewind" and "fast forward" features are also a little problematic regardless of file format. When you're in one of these modes and then try to resume normal playback the WD TV takes several seconds to respond, which often leads you to overshoot the point in the video you were attempting to reach. |
These little media players really do play anything. I've thrown every kind of video file at it with no problems. I did end up purchasing a 1TB WD My Book Live because of issues streaming from my home computer. Now all four of my WD Live players and two PS3s can stream HD videos simultaneously on 10/100mbps with no lag at all. I would recommend these to anybody with a hard-wired network in their home as I have heard wireless can be troublesome with these devices.
