Got this for my desktop PC. The PC is a first build for me and this wireless adapter is just what I needed to get connected. Had this for 6 plus months so I'm very confident that this card is going to work for a long long time.

After I installed the software that comes with this product (XP Prof. op.system) the login password screen now appears. I don't want the login screen but according to Netgear this can't be eliminated. This is unacceptable. The Hiro wireless adapter cards and software don't have this inconvenience so I recommend you go with Hiro. Perhaps Netgear will fix this unacceptable inconvenience.

worth it 100% whatever you do, do not use this with windows xp sp1 or older. You should have at least SP2 for best performance. You will also want win 2000 sp4. It doesnt matter if you have vista sp1 or not.

Does have a consistent connection... also includes WPA security features. But dosnt have the signal strength to be competitive. Had a Dlink in this comp (win xp sp2) but bought a new computer so moved the Dlink into that one. Put the netgear in this one because it was on sale for 30 bucks! 2 bars only!!! and staying at 36mbps... When the Dlink was in I was getting a full 5 bars and full speed. Router is on second floor and this comp is in the basement! Im stickin with the Dlink... 510 and above all do great!

I purchased because of price and NAME. Installed and left it installed for (2) days then took it back out and replaced it with a D-Link. It never would maintain a signal and kept constantely dropping the connection. I will have to say that my router is close to 100' from this computer and it works great now.

Not sure if this works with other operating systems, but do not -- repeat -- DO NOT buy this thing if you have Windows XP. I bought a router from Netgear, which works great. So I bought an adapter, too, which works...when it feels like it. The company says it's no big deal that it's not officially supported by Windows, but apparently that's wrong, because this thing is nothing but trouble. I'll go anywhere between a few minutes and a few days before it conks out. Sometimes resetting the card works, sometimes you have to reboot, and now it won't work at all, even though I have a very strong internet signal. The adapter is terrible, even with the updated drivers and changing PCI slots. Oh, and phone support isn't very good, either. No need to be on hold for half an hour to get ''solutions'' that I've already thought of and dug out on my own. Run far, run fast from this thing.

I bought the adapter based on a competitive price and the strength of the Netgear name. It will also be my last purchase from them. After what appeared to be a successful install, the unit would constantly drop the connection, reconnect, and then drop out again. The support page on their website revealed the need for updated drivers to work with XP SP2. OK, fine, load the new drivers - it still doesn't work. Call tech support, get the least English-fluent speaker in all of India who finally comes up with a registry change that gets it working. Nothing exceptional, just working. So the CPU sits on the floor for 2 weeks and loses its connection again. This time it isn't software, the antenna fell off the back of the card. The antenna screws onto the card via a small pressed-in threaded fitting which fell off the connector. First I had to argue with them to look up my serial # by my email address, as I gave them the serial number when I registered the card. After explaining the problem

Don't buy this product. It conflicts with hardware in a bad way. Look for reviews and check out the problems with VIA chipsets and my soundblaster pci 512 for starters. Froze my computer probably 50 times and when I swapped pci slots with my sound card it worked, but my sound card did not. I reinstalled my sound card and got the lock ups again. Save yourself the hassle

Works just the way it should and installed very easily. The card is communicating reliably with the router (Netgear WGT624 108Mbps 802.11g Wireless Firewall Router) two floors up in a solid concrete house. For those with WIN 98 -- this installed on mine (first edition, not 98SE) no problem and works like a champ. Don't hose up your faithful old WIN98 box with an OS upgrade if you can avoid it!
