I've used Linksys routers for years; let me just say that this will be my last Cisco product for a while. Also, DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE UNLESS YOU HAVE NO CHOICE.

The only problem I had was after a firmware update, I could no longer use FTP, and I am a web-designer! an unofficial firmware update fixed that problem. The only thing that has never worked for me is VPN, but to me thats not a huge deal. Everything else works fine. Remote Management, never had a problem. I have a DLINK N card on my laptop, and it runs at 300mbps wirelessly with this router. Great Range, great features. Two of my computers have G-Bit network cards. Transferring files from one to the other, even large drawings, run very quickly. I would buy this router again. I only wish it had removeable antennas.

DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. Don't even think about it. This is a great idea that whent wrong. After replacing this unit 5 times because of features working only sometimes, I have proven that this is a very bad unit. A comparable router with all these features retails for over $500.00. Stick with the good stuff and stay away from this cut-corner low cost solution because you will pay one way or another. - Firmware: Buggy. Even after upgrading to a version that is not yet available on the market, this thing still only works half the time. - VPN Capability: MOST of the time this feature does not work. Also, it uses a QuickVPN utility which does not allow for NetBios computer name resolution so all of your networked programs that rely on that will not work. It is only good for the basics too such as shares or remote desktop. - Remote Management: Works only half the time. - Gigabit Wired File Transfers: Speeds as low as 2mbps most of the time.

I got one of these in order to operate a relatively small network reliably for my local church. This router is loaded with features, if only they all worked. The latest firmware from Linksys is still buggy and I was told the ones from before are infinitely worse. Remote Management, the #1 selling feature of this router for me, never materialized: when I you turn it on, I quickly end up crashing the router. VPN, the redeeming feature of this router, also doesn't work: Road Warrior-type VPN uses some weird QuickVPN utility, which is also horribly buggy and doesn't work right. It's also Windows only. This is a quotation from its help: ''You might need to turn off your Windows firewall''. (What?!?) So much for Cisco's commitment to security. I was trying to harness the VPN router-to-router tunneling in order to get SOME VPN ability, but still no luck. In short: Don't buy, it's not worth it. The firmware is crap and an otherwise excellent router is useless because of it.

Cons: Plastic feet dont always stay connected to the device, but not enough to create  a real issue.

Pros: Great power and range, good firmware running this version. Very stable and reliable, only had to reboot it once from a power outage (did not pickup new IP from DSL modem).

Very good router, has good built in firewall and VPN configuration setup. Have had it running for over 3 months now, it has been very stable and reliable.

The router works fine, but do not expect it to work with non linksys N adapters at N speeds. I have a Belkin Express N card it only connects at 54mbps in mixed mode, and will not connect if the linksys router is put into N mode only. My onboard wireless G connects and has 5 bars sitting in living room, abouts 80 ft away. When using the Belking express N in laptop, sitting 3 feet away from router only has 3 bars signal strength.

This is THE everything-in-one Linksys Router, meant for the Power User or Small Business. This Router is VERY flexible. Support for DDNS Services, Single Port, Port Range and Triggered Port Forwarding works flawlessly. QuickVPN allows for connecting remote computers into the network, although you might want to grab the latest firmware for some known fixes. Customer Service was great in handling the one problem I've had thus far. The largest gripes are that some security measures meant to block web attacks can, from time to time, block legitimate traffic, so you may have to play around with the settings or disable some security measures. In addition, this Router's Draft-N isn't quite as far reaching as other Draft-Ns, but still very good. Finally, this is a full-blown Linux-based router, and takes 2 minutes to reboot (I'm not kidding). All in all a great router for the money. If you are an average user and don't need all these features, you'd be better off looking elsewhere.

I have had very good luck with linksys products, particularly gigabit rated items. They offer 24/7 tech support if you get ''confused'' and you can upgrade to Cisco systems in many instances.

Cisco WRVS4400N Wireless N VPN Router
The growth in mission critical, high bandwidth applications, such as storage and voice in the work place, has made network performance and security essential. With the introduction of 802.11n, wireless technology is no longer lagging behind wired performance. The Cisco Business Series WRVS4400N wireless router answers the growing business' need for access, speed and security.

The WRVS4400N implements draft 802.11n (Wireless-N) technology with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) Router that features a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet switch. By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate resulting in greater throughput and coverage over 802.11g. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. At the same time, Wireless-N is backwards compatible with Wireless-B and -G devices.

The WRVS4400N has incorporated advanced firewall and intrusion prevention (IPS) features to secure your network from external threats, including worms, DDoS attacks, and viruses. The VPN tunnels gives your mobile workers a secure and easy to use way to stay connected. In addition, the VPN "gateway to gateway" IPSec tunnels facilitates branch office connectivity through encrypted virtual links. The integrated QoS features provide consistent voice and video performance on both the wired and wireless networks, enabling the deployment of business quality VoIP and video applications.

The Cisco Small Business Series is the affordable, reliable, high quality networking solution that helps you do business smarter. Our systems ensure maximum application availability enabling you to meet corporate governance and business continuance requirements. Secure and easy to install and maintain, it?s built to grow with your business.
