-Performs ideal with SATA Lite-On DVDRW and/or a SATA HDD-Set up was easy with XP-Also updated and used the drivers on the CD NONE I will get an additional 1 or 2 with my subsequent NEWEGG buy.--Once again as i stated on my other evaluation, i was unhappy with NEWEGG'S packing this shipment. Box was flimsy with the side broken out of it, and the single piece of tape holding it shut was open on most the box.

Works completely, low cost None I bought this to add a couple added SATA ports to an older Windows XP 32 bit machine. I wanted to install some SATA BluRay drives to replace my old PATA DVD drives.WinXP didn't recognize the new SATA controller and the incorporated drivers were on CD. I had currently removed my old PATA DVD drives (I wasn't thinking ahead), so I couldn't study the integrated CD. I had to download the Windows x86 drivers. MassCool's web site was useless, so I downloaded the drivers for the Via VT6421A controller directly from By means of. They can be located here: http://www.viaarena.com/Driver/vraid_driver_v550b.zipIf you are utilizing a different OS, you can search for drivers here: http://www.by way of.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp. Just make confident to search for the IDE/RAID/SATA driver for VT6421A.If you are using this card for the similar purpose, you may want to leave 1 of your old CD/DVD drives connected to install the drivers... or just download them like I did.

Low-cost, small, fantastic outputs That i require this at all, thanks Microsoft ! Am receiving this to solve intermittent probs with XP. It appears that you shouldnt have opticals and harddrives on the very same Sata buss. If you have an original mb that only has the sata through the southbridge, you will need something like this. Newer mb's have the further Sata connectors to seperate off bus chips that run a small slower, but don't hose the operating technique.Use the mainboard connections for the tough drives, and the seperate chips for the optical drives. Or else you are going to get troubles that you can't track down. Has been recognized to destroy RAID arrays.

SATA and Raid. It is recognized by XP using the included drivers, or straight from Via. Recognized by FreeBSD six.3. Low cost price tag. IDE side in no way worked. The final results ranged from a complete system hang to getting bootable but without having the IDE functioning each on XP and FreeBSD. I attempted in 2 various motherboards with 2 unique HD's. I tried switching the jumpers from cable choose, master and slave. I attempted unique IDE, from the 80 pin to the 40 pin., and various points on the IDE cable. I nevertheless have lots of older IDE drives that function, and was seeking for an additional affordable IDE conttroller soon after a motherboard replacement. I'll retain what I have and use the SATA part, but look at one thing else in the future. Chances are I am just unlucky.

Installed on my windows server 2003 x 64 machine without any troubles. The driver CD was essential to locate the proper driver. I was only hunting to get some extra SATA ports for my old tyan s2885 motherboard, and operates fine for that. I'm at present only using 1 SATA port for a 2TB drive. no challenges, install driver, reboot and it worked.

Great price tag NOT BOOTABLE! This card only operates if you have an current bootable hard drive, and intalls at the OS level. Item description need to state that this card is not bootable. Since I bought this card to replace my IDE difficult drive with an SATA drive to boot from, this is useless to me. Helpful if you are only adding an additional SATA device to personal computer with currently existing bootable hard drive.

Card was affordable. It won't work with a new Western Digital SATA drive (as major or slave) attempting to install Windows 7 RC 7100. Won't work with Linux Mint 6 either. I rolled the dice hoping for a winner. I wish I could have observed the preceding posting about not becoming able to boot from this drive. Driver disk has Vista drivers, but Win7 claims that my hardware is incompatable. Even right after installing W7 on an old IDE drive, it won't recognize the card to install the drivers from the integrated CD or an net search. Other Masscool cards have comparable challenges, some are capable to flash the firmware to repair it. Not certain about this card, I'll have to yank the friggin' factor out and look at it to locate out. I look to remember one post that spoke of not getting the drive attached until you set up the drivers. I'll try it. If I can't get it to operate, I'll be stuck, attempting to figure out what to replace it with. As usual, Newegg rocks with quick delivery, and I had no complaints about how the drive & card had been packaged.

It operates excellent, and I didn't have to install any drivers. Outdated chipset and no guidelines. I bought this point mainly because my motherboard didn't support IDE. (It's a Dell OEM mobo) I plugged it in, connected an old CD-RW drive, turned on my pc, and the drive showed up appropriate away. I put in a CD, and it mounted the CD and read it just fine. I haven't tested the SATA side but.

XP demands the driver in the VT6421 folder. I simply wanted extra SATA connections. All the talk of drivers here and no one provides any information. I went by way of what I thought was every driver and was losing hope ... ultimately on my second pass I identified it. Too early to tell but it runs my DVD drive fine. The Mnsscool internet site could say Anything about drivers but they preserve a code of silence.

I plugged in the card, installed drivers, and from there, anything worked completely. I installed two tough drives that were already in a RAID0 configuration and the RAID nevertheless worked immediately after installing the card. It didn't come with a bios so any additional tweaking has to be accomplished by means of the By means of utility included with the hyperion drivers.

Worked proper out of the box beneath Ubuntu eight.04 (and Xubuntu). Appears to be operating okay under XP as well but I haven't tested that as thoroughly.Presently have my "old" 250 Gb drive plugged in through this given that I didn't have room in my case for IDE cabling. Solved my problem and only gave me a single hiccup... It did give me a bit of a heart-attack when I plugged it in and my system didn't boot giving me this error message:BIOS DOES NOT BE INSTALLED.I rebooted twice and it hasn't shown its face once again. Doesn't appear to have had any adverse effects. In retrospect that message was quite hilarious.

None It seems that this piece killed my desktop. The method was about 6 eyars old which is why I needed this card. I set up it in my box with my new samsung 750 GB drive. Pushed the power button and the fans spun for about three seconds. I thoroughly tested the whole program piece by piece and nothing at all. I purchased a new PSU and it nonetheless behaved as with the old a single. Be wary. I can't say for certain this killed my box, but it sure seems that way. Despite the fact that, this did force me to create a new process, which is cool, even though I seriously didn't have the money to do so.

I'm preparing on connecting a SATA Seagate 1TB drive & slipstreaming WXP SP3 on it, employing this card as the controller.

Internal SATA over PCI is good for an older computer system that lacks SATA help on the motherboard. Half height for slim circumstances (more on this...) . Quite straight forward, no frills or unnecessary stuff. Fantastic price tag for what you get. Although the card is half height, the PCI bracket IS NOT half height! This means it will not perform (without some creativity at least) in a half height case. This appears like a large oversight, considering that the bracket screws off anyways they could have quickly included a slim line bracket! The external SATA port is literally an external SATA port -- NOT a "eSATA" style connector. For what you spend it's a quite excellent deal. Does what it's advertised to do, but it could do it just a bit much better to be a lot more user friendly. If you have a bit more to devote, it may possibly be worth it. But it's not negative if you just want a simple SATA port in your "legacy" machine.

Fits into the slot, did the job (temporarily) For whatever purpose, it just stopped operating. I tried downloading drivers, absolutely nothing. I have windows 7, so I don't know if that has something to do with it. I'm a film-guy, and I have a little more than 5TB worth of challenging drives committed to motion pictures, (I rip complete dvd/BRD excellent.) I had my typical HD rack on the outside of my case, and then I had one particular of those thermaltake blacX points for my last 3 500g HDs. It got to be a pain switching in between the three based on the movie I wanted to watch, so this seemed to be the excellent item. If it would have worked permanently, my dilemma would have been solved. Ah nicely

Simple install (physical), has nice SATA connections - two inside, a single outdoors, and a PATA (in which I haven't attempted out). Pc recognized it ideal off the bat. Right after the disgusting configuration and driver install, it operates, and performs nicely. Ugh - the drivers and configuration. The drivers were a mess, and when I say a mess, I imply a MESS. No readmes, the box it came in doesn't reflect the actual card, just the worst presentation of a item I have personally ever noticed. To conserve absolutely everyone who buys this time and effort, for XP, cancel the discovered new hardware wizard and just search the driver CD for the setup EXE (i believe its in a folder in which has a Via in the name). My initially encounter with the SATA technology, and, right after I finally got this all to work, I was very pleased. Wow, SATA, very nice. Enjoy it. Despite the fact that this card wasn't incredibly user friendly, it's nonetheless quite a great item overall - specially for the price.
