Cons: NoiseGlossy surface (finger print magnet)Vents are poorly designed

Pros: CompactNo O/SChoose your RAM & HD
Comment:
My primary purpose for this box is a webserver.I have it running Ubuntu Server on 2GB RAM with a 64GB SSD and it runs like a champ! I will complain about the noise, much like everyone else. This tends to be an issue when it is sitting right beside you though. The easiest fix for noise is to leave the side panel off (not the greatest idea, I know) so that the fan can actually exhaust the hot air out. The fan is barely audible in this configuration.

Install windows 7 and xbmc win version (nightly built). Can play 1080p movie in windows with no problem.I put a SSD and 4GB ram and it is good enough for my purpose.

Cons: Run hot all the time

Pros: PriceLot of built in features
Comment:
The hardware setup was very painless, just pop the lid off, install RAM and Harddrive. Ran into a small issue with booting from external CDRom. The unit doens't have a bios screen to change any onboard configuration. Had to rely on it to automacally detect the USB CD-ROM and boot. The Windows XP installation was fast and done in 45 minute. Not bad considering. I am currently using it as port monitoring on company router to track traffic usage.

This nettop is stylish and quite compact. runs a bit thicker than a EEE but not a deal breaker. The popping in the 2.5" drive and a single stick of SODIMM took all of 30 seconds (2 thumb screws and a helpful photo guide!). I had an external dvd-drive handy and within about 10 minutes of opening the box I had the Zbox mounted on the back of my monitor and was installing Ubuntu. At this point i noticed the fan was very very loud. Not good. Figured it was the processor working hard on the install so I didn't worry about it. Later, restarted and immediately the fan was too loud. Discovered that there is a Bios update  which makes a huge difference to the fan noise; a pain to install from linux (Zbox supplies windows and dos version, but not linux?!) but once done made all the difference. Still not silent, but definitely quiet enough for my purposes. Otherwise, Ubuntu recognised everything fine. I used 2 gb of ram for cost reason but it will take 4, apparently. Runs fine for the websurfing and light video work I intended it for.
