Zalman RHS90 Anodized Aluminum VGA Heatsink for ATI Radeon HD4890/4870

I got this heatsink to replace the horrible VRM heatsinks supplied with Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo GPU cooler. Unfortunately, this heatsink is full-profile and was interfering with that cooler, so I had to cut a good chunk (~50%) off it to make it fit.Even after all that, it provided at least 30C improvement in temperature during a FurMark test - 50C+ degrees improvement during a 3DMark06 - it was extremely easy to mount as well. Excellent product.

Purchased for a friend so I don't know exactly how well it works. He says it works good. Comes with push pins, grease. PP price is good. From my research it looks as if it only fits the actual ATI brand cards and not any other ATI model 4870/90. quick and easy to install.

Picked this up last week to test out on a 4890 reference card and performance hasn't disappointed. Whereas with the stock cooler, the VRMs would reach close to 120 celsius even with the fan set to 50% which is noisy, this heatsink lowered the temps by close to 40 celsius. Now the VRMs do not reach over 80 celsius even with software based volt-modding.The only dislike I have is that it is not compatible with most 4870/4890 coolers, and compatibility is limited to the Zalman's GV1000, VF1000 or other Zalman 4890 compatible coolers. For example, I cannot use an Arctic cooling Accelero, Thermalright T-Rad 2 or Scythe Musashi as this heatsink is too tall and would require some severe bending of those heatsinks.But, with the GV1000 I am able to use the Fan mate 2 to limit fan speed and noise, and keep my oc'd 4890 at 975/1200 and the VRMs are all around 72 to 75 celsius, and the GPU never exceeds 80 celsius with very little noise. Keep in mind, this VRM cooler is ONLY compatible with 4890 reference boards. I have not tested on a 4870 reference board yet. This review was modfied by poster @ 08-25-09 08:46 AM
