Garmin seems to have the ideal POI organization by category -- Tom Tom, for instance, will just list all "restaurants" alternatively of allowing you to pick "Asian" or some other category. The a single point that kept me from obtaining any Garmin model, was the truth that you cannot enter an address by Zip Code -- you have to truly enter the state and city (albeit with some help by way of preloaded state and city names). This truly boggles the thoughts.

This GPS will lead to much more frustration and pressure than convenience. What boggles my mind is this model is no additional enhanced than the older models- its the identical terrible slow laggy UI with just about every essential press. The keyboard is really awful to variety on and it LAGS like hell. Also the huge screen bevel makes it not possible to press certain letters or backspace without repositioning your hand awkwardly. I live in Rhode Island, so I'm frequently commuting between RI and Mass mainly because they're so close with each other. Effectively this GPS isn't intelligent adequate to understand that, so every time I have a new address to enter, I have to form in the complete state name since there's no list of *recent states*. A different factor that SUCKS about this GPS is THERE IS NO WAY TO SEE THE ITINERARY when you enter an address. This is a single of the hugest flaws with it. The only way you can see your itinerary in advance is if you retain dragging the map more than and more than with your finger, which requires forever mainly because the unit lags so bad. Also, its quite tricky to Alter THE ITINERARY; for example, if you want to take a diverse highway than it recommends to get some spot. It's specially difficult to do while driving- and regrettably, you have no decision but to do it although driving because like I stated before, there's no way to adjust the itinerary until you GET THERE. Perhaps the most frustrating difficulty with this GPS is that every single time you start off it up, it says "Searching for Satellites" which occasionally can take ten MINUTES or Additional to even CONNECT. It'll ask "Are you indoors?" and from time to time I can't get a connection at all even when I'm holding the issue up in the air towards the windshield while driving. I've also had a lot of troubles with preset areas NOT getting in the GPS. For instance, I was seeking for directions to a Navy base, and in another instance, to a distinct hospital. The GPS did not have EITHER location in it's presets!! Now I know Google Maps has these areas! WT eff? Also, as other people have noted, there are no POIs (points of interest), which tends to make possessing this GPS in an location you're already familiar with incredibly useless. It'd be good to see company and McDonalds and Pizza Huts and shops on my map rather of just colors. Also, there's no way to adjust the volume on this GPS with no navigating via a ton of slow UI menus. There are no hardware buttons on the side to dim the screen or adjust the volume. An additional downside is that there's no way to tell the GPS that a distinct road is blocked off/under construction so the GPS won't take you down that road anymore. There's been a bridge out in my location for 3 years and it's not on the map updates- the Garmins consistently attempting to take me across this unfinished bridge. Google wants to come out with their personal GPS that makes use of their mapping software. I essentially ended up smashing mine in aggravation, so now I have nothing, which in my opinion is far better.

This was a gift for a directionally challenged loved ones memeber. I say invest the income to obtain this unit if you are seeking. Obtaining a piece of mind when you are traveling with worth what you will devote The only factor I have located is, that the unit at instances does not know proper from left, so make confident you appear at the screen.

Really intuitive interface. Free map update within 60 days. Outstanding consumer service. Have utilized Garmin product for years as a pilot (no one particular is greater) and decided to use for auto travel specifically when away from hometown. Recalc time is amazingly fast. Voice synth could be better (it was on my old Garmin Street Pilot 330). Loading time could be Much faster. Some directional quirks but often gets me their without delay. Sometimes offers me a route exactly where the street has been manually blocked...but no map is great. Those who rate it low compared to Tom-Tom should have absurd customer loyalty or basically hate adjust. I attempted a Tom-Tom - identified it so user-UNfriendly, returned it for a different Garmin. Those who criticize it for getting DOA have no standing unless it was not promptly replaced upon acquiring and RMA...same goes for these who goes who got a poorly functioning unit. It's all about consumer SVC!

Nice screen, size is fantastic and it looks very good. Voice path is nice, but can be a little annoying. Transportable. Fantastic information base. Desires a suction cup to mount, hate the energy cord draping down the dash. Far better than the little screen units, but nonetheless wish it was larger, like the built in units, but then again it doesn't price 񘈨+ either.

Vibrant colors, loud adequate (adjustable volume, also), good graphics, the voice recognizes factors that I kind in (typed in "Erin's Home" and when I arrived, she mentioned "You have arrived at Erin's home")... incredible GPS. Really recommended. If you need to take a break on your trip and pull into a gas station, restaurant, and so forth., it automatically redirects you, thinking you made a incorrect turn. After you get back on the road you were on, it takes you the identical way you were going prior to you stopped, but there demands to be a "Pause" button for the guidance or something...

Garmin website was uncomplicated to register and do automatic computer software updates. It gets GPS signals in no much more than 30 seconds. It tends to make rapidly adjustments if you take a diverse route than the original directions it offers you. It only came with a Rapid Start out Manual. I had to log on to Garmin.com to get a pdf file of the total manual. No USB connector cord. I was able to use the ones from my digital camera or mp3 player. This was my first auto GPS and it was incredibly basic to figure out. The female voice sounds clear and is straightforward to understand.I like that it calls out the streets by name and offers you advanced warning that your next turn is coming up. I am glad I didn't pay 񘒀 for the factory installed GPS that could have come with my car. I got this for less than 跌 and can use it any automobile.

I can't consider of any...truly. Ridiculous routes, incorrect routes and occasionally literally just going in circles. Maps are NOT correct, in spite of what I've read in other reviews. Slow to reposition vehicle soon after turns, frequently so slow that you locate yourself in the wrong lane if your in a series of rapid turns. I applied a TomTom One in europe for four years devoid of a single issue. Coming back I necessary a new GPS and read some critiques indicating as Garmin is an american company versus TomTom which is european...Garmin's maps of the US are a lot a lot more accurate. I fell for it and it wasn't extended just before I regretted it. Soon after almost acquiring killed in a major merge since it took so lengthy to clarify the route...I'd had it. Back to TomTom and I have no regrets or incorrect routes or close to misses. I'd strongly encourage any prospective GPS purchaser to steer clear of the Garmin.

Supremely intuitive interface. Setup was a snap and I often use it for all sorts of trips. The far more you use it the a lot more you will comprehend how friggin' cool this tiny device is. So substantially information is accessible to you that you will drive off the road digesting it all. The maps are about 95% up to date. I have driven off the map a couple of times - and it's entertaining to watch the steam coming out the Garmin's brain as it tries to get you back on a road. The widescreen Nuvis have just the correct amount of screen space. The screen seldom gets washed out by sunlight. No problems with GPS reception and I usually get a sturdy signal in my kitchen. Just acquire 1! I wish that the battery life was longer and that the battery was replaceable/exchangeable. The unit lasts about four days or two hours on a total charge though becoming stored in a cold auto. On long continuous drives, I can get about five hours out of a full charge (screen at 10% brightness). Eight to ten hours would be preferrable. The charging cable is not quite flexible till it is warm. The Nuvi is a small sluggish in cold weather. I wish it had Chick-Fil-A areas. I purchased the AC charger and USB cable (then realized I currently has a mini-USB connector - doh!) to go with the Nuvi. I don't like the appear of extraneous wires in my car so the AC adapter lets me charge the unit at residence - of course the Nuvi will also charge itself via the USB cable. Had I known these two truth I would possibly not have bought the USB and AC adapter. I used to have it in my vehicle daily but I grew tired of removing it daily so I use it only for areas I haven't but visited.

General it is a solid unit. Has all the functions you'd expect of a standard GPS unit.Attributes I like:Loud and clear voice. If there is a turn coming up quickly soon after the current a single, it will generally warn you of it verbally (not on the screen even though).Shows your current speed subsequent to the speed limit, so you know when you are speeding :)Starts up relatively rapid, and finds satellites fairly rapidly also. If you're coming out of a garage, give it 30 seconds or so.Seattle has a lot of tunnels (ex. the ones on the two bridges 90릠). It appears to know about some of them, as it will continue tracking at your final identified speed even although it has lost the satellites.I got the version with targeted traffic; it doesn't generally get all the visitors jams but when it does find one particular en-route I can steer clear of it.Its resolution is very precise, offers remaining distance at 10ft intervals and updates your position at a fairly high rate ƒ+ times a second) - I've observed it track me going much less than 1 mph in a website traffic jam **CONTINUED PROS**Its tracking is also relatively accurate - my parent's GPS 'lagged' so when the map showed you were half a block from a turn, you were essentially currently there. This GPS doesn't have that problem - it's dead on accurate.**CONS**However, gets confused from time to time (like shifting a street more than, finding stuck on the incorrect street, and so on), specifically in the city with tall buildings.I had the stuttering issue - seemed to be triggered by using the rotating top rated-down map. I use the always north map now and no stuttering. If you can't wrap your head around that, I hear the 3D map is also Okay (dunno why that is less CPU-intensive than the rotating top rated down...)Did not come with a USB cable.Cannot see 'directions' (the complete list of turns).Routes are normally shortest distance but not the fastest. I usually use google maps very first for a rapid overview of the common route, then use the GPS for comprehensive navigation. Wonderful deal for the cash. None of the cons (except for the stuttering problem, and excellent luck if you can't repair that since it was driving me nuts) are critical. Excellent starting GPS unit.

Incredibly sturdy device. I applied for numerous days in a road trip comparing with an iGO, and even though the iGO shows additional relevant data, the Garmin was often showing much better techniques and getting signal faster. I applied for quite a few days in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Angeles, Santa Monica and quite a few places to walk by foot and it was seriously useful. The battery genuinely lasts some thing like 4 hours and it's really fantastic. The search of closest POI's is genuinely good. It doesn't say how several miles for arrival, just the arrival time. This is the only issue I genuinely miss. It's a truly easy GPS, you don't have a lot of extras but it does the job genuinely nicely. It assists you to locate your destiny.I sent this GPS to my mother in Brazil, and installed a totally free map known as TrackSource. It's performing actually well. The price of the very same model in Brazil in a very good shop is practically U񘈨.00. I paid 79.00 in a nearby store.

LCD screen is a excellent sizeThe GPS quickly fits in a bag when on the road. You'll almost certainly get to your destination. 1. The suggested routes are terrible. The GPS doesn't recognize that getting off the highway and generating numerous turns will take additional time.two. The user interface is awkward. Typical commands are buried in the interface.three. The voice is absolutely terrible. I heard greater in voice synths from the late 90's This was supposed to be an "upgrade" from a TomTom 1 I bought about four years ago. The TomTom was actually effortless to use with intuitive menus and routes that were uncomplicated and effective. This Garmin has terrible route selection. It doesn't have an selection for "using most highways" when finding a route. The two possibilities are Fastest Time and shortest distance. However the Fastest Time appears to be based on speed limits rather than the actual speeds you will travel. So... the highway is only 55mph while a "faster route" via the city is estimated at 40mph. If you follow the recommended route you are guaranteed to sit at targeted traffic lights and be caught in congestion. The user interface is terrible. At a single point I tried to work about a detour and it took about 8 clicks to cancel my detour and recalculate the original route.I am nonetheless employing my TomTom. I believed the Garmin would have new maps and greater technology (routes and targeted traffic) but it is terrible. I wish I could get a refund.

The thing is wonderful. You can decide on a place then search for some thing like WalMart that is close to your current route and add it. Neat features...massive database of stuff. Went to Florida exactly where I knew absolutely nothing about streets and it had them all that I could find. Turn-by-turn it is quite awesome specially with having precise roads. It also has telephone #'s of places you want when you kind them in. I typed in "CVS" though on the telephone with medical doctor to refill prescription out of state and they did it. It seemed to have numerous places programmed in that had been incorrect. It would have a WalMart (you'd think this is an important a single to be right) in the middle of a grassy field. I'd drive a couple of miles each ways to make confident it wasn't just a little off and it was nowhere. It had a bookstore that was under no circumstances there, and I went to a different book retailer it had listed which was also nowhere in sight. This wasn't a matter of me just not searching well or anything. I got out of the automobile and asked the locals. They'd say the nearest WalMart was like 8 miles away. Also the airport in Ft. Myers, FL is brand new. It had it quite close when we place it in, but it said remain to the correct (which was right), and your destination is on the left...when it was on the appropriate. Just minor stuff there. If you put in intersections, it is awesome. If you're trying to uncover a WalMart, CVS, Bookstore, and so on. occasionally it will send you on a goose chase. It does contain the telephone # of the places it tries to take you to usually, so I just named a few and got dead numbers and looked for yet another 1 in the GPS.

Unit is lightweight and slim design. Mounting system/bracket is above common. Widescreen offers very good image good quality in 2D and 3D views. Familiar setup and config (if you've had other Garmin goods). Signal top quality has remained above typical in the week I've had it. Quickly connected to laptop or computer for upgrades/downloads. Text to speech (street/turn notification) is horrible. You can barely hear it at 70% or lower volume, and it becomes distorted at volume levels above that. It sometimes puts my location on yet another street - but it's usually when traveling slow/stopped and in complex neighborhoods Purchased this unit to replace an older StreePilot which was not too long ago stolen. General a great receiver, which has a nice image and computer software set up. The volume/distortion can be irritating. I tend to keep it only loud enough to act as a notification, and then appear at the display for route info (not relying on voice).

Price tag at the time. This thing can't discover itself on the dash. I took a trip that I printed out a Google Map for and it was straight interstate all of the way. McComb, MS to Caryville, TN. This unit told me to take a suitable turn at Just about every exit. Each and every exit that I didn't take it would "recalculate route" as it need to have, but I can't remember how several instances that it locked up and I had to restart it. Most likely about just about every 30 minutes.I used it for nearby directions this morning and it took me ten miles from where I wanted to go on a computer service call. When I finally located the place via phone calls, I was told that they have a lot of truckers call them with the similar problem. It apparently took them to the identical location that it took me. They said the only folks who get there through GPS personal a TomTom. I don't even see how these folks are even thought to be a GPS. I wish that I would have had a cause to use this ahead of the 30 day warranty ran out so I could get a refund, though I don't assume that I could have on this. Need to have been a "recertified" unit that was not advertised as 1.The only reason that I gave this a 1 egg rating is since there was not an option for a Ŕ" or a negative number.

My guess is perhaps you had been watching the GPS with a telephone glued to your head and that was the dilemma. If you can't drive your automobile with no pretty much finding killed mainly because of your GPS maybe you should sell it or superior however quit driving all together..that woould make it safer for the rest of us.
