Operates effectively and really quiet. No challenges so far. This is a replacement drive for a WD 80 GB that failed following three years. I already had a secondary 160 GB Hitachi in this Dell Dimension 9100 and it has worked effectively for me. So I decided to take a chance in spite of unfavorable critiques right here.Common rapidly shipping by Newegg. Windows XP Pro SP3 could not format this drive. I split it up into an OS partition of 50 GB and an app partition of 150 GB. Formatting of the app partition stopped at 54% two times in a row; HDD activity light went out and then nothing. I booted Partition Commander and successfully formatted from there.

Wonderful specs for the price tagCheapRelatively quiet Wasn't delivered by a cute redhead? Not a brand I would reach for straight-away for a "major" system, but I'm not constructing a single of those this time. I can often rely on Newegg for great costs quickly shipping and outstanding service. No Fudd, folks. It's correct.

Great value for a 500GB drive. Straightforward to set up if you have some knowledge with challenging drives. Initial 1 came DOA. New egg took care of the challenge promptly and sent a new drive out speedily. No SATA wire or manual included. I have installed difficult drives ahead of so it wasn't tricky. Gave it four stars since the 1st drive was dead when it came in. I am happy with the replacement.

Quickly! Tends to make my daughters old laptop snappy with the 16mb cache. Can't shovel snow for me. Seems like a fantastic economical drive 鸴gigs for 40 bucks....wow!) The people experiencing clicking really should verify there power provide. quite common for that to occur w/ under powered or failing energy supply.

*Fast data transfer speeds*Quick as an OS drive - performs wonderful for a even though*Very Quiet as properly *Ridiculously brief life span Tonight is the 2nd Hitachi drive I've seen die in the past two months. The 1st was with a client who was ready to move to Windows 7. He ordered this drive for me to do a clean windows install on and it was DOA. It never ever spun up. So we ordered a WD Green 500GB as a replacement that has been functioning fine. My Hitachi died tonight. It was pulling duty in a low to medium use Demo / Loaner Pc I constructed so my customers would not be entirely out in the cold while waiting on their machines to be repaired. This drive was ordered 5 / 1 / 2010. To die with no warning soon after just 3 months of quite light use is just sad. So I'll RMA this 1 for a replacement but not sure what I could truly trust it with. :(

Quickly, 7200 RPM, SATA II, substantial capacity, fantastic value, still operates fine soon after a year. Windows 7 and Linux install practically twice as rapidly compared to the 5400 RPM drive I mention in the 'Cons' section. Quiet at initial, but mine became louder and hotter following three months. I didn't get it from Newegg. It came with a challenging drive enclosure that was plastic with a heat sink and fan. The fan was usually operating at complete speed after a couple of months. The noise got loud in comparison to my pc, so I replaced it with a Western Digital 5400 RPM drive. Now the external drive enclosure isn't as loud and doesn't get as hot. I guess any 7200 RPM drive will be louder and hotter than a 5400 RPM drive, since it's functioning harder. My drive is a very equivalent Hitachi model, but not this precise aspect quantity. I've worked in IT for 20 years. I by no means did like the Hitachi brand. The name Deskstar sounds also substantially like 'Deathstar'. I never had challenges with this drive other than noise and heat. Other Hitachi drives I worked with don't appear to last as long as other brands. If I knew the external drive enclosure had this brand of drive inside, I probably would have ordered a thing else.

Inexpensive storagePerforms just fineStraightforward to set up into a new rig No big issues I'm not a stickler for drive access instances or anything like that. If you're just hunting for an upgrade to your ancient storage device, this is excellent for you. If you're searching for fast drive access occasions and very fast information retrieval, you possibly shouldn't even be seeking here.

Excellent price to positive aspects, first time I've had a Hitachi fail on me. It freaking failed on me...right following the Newegg return period expired, of course. Produced that superb ticking noise exactly where you can tell the head is going wild...sounds like a 4 cylinder engine running with no any oil. The motherboard wouldn't even see it in the BIOS. RMA method was somewhat painless. Just necessary model and serial numbers. Hitachi even has a diagnostic tool equivalent to SeaTools (though the GUI is actually outdated) which can diagnose many defects, assuming it will even recognize the drive (that's how far gone this one is!)Hopefully I just got the undesirable apple, appears most other folks are getting very good luck with this series based on the reviews. Mine had a manufacturing code of January, 2010.

Can't find any excellent thing to say about this drive given that it is DOA. The drive was properly pack in the course of shipping. This is the initial tough drive that I ever bought that came dead. I guess I should have listen to the previous reviewers. Contacted Newegg and did a RMA.

Replacement drive worked perfectly Very first drive was DOA. Replaced promptly by Newegg DO NOT Get THIS DRIVE. It has an unacceptable failure price. Even with a operating replacement, this expense much more than its competition due to the fact you have to pay to ship it back. Remain with Western Digital or Seagate. I will not buy a Hitachi drive once again. I believed they have been over this soon after the "Deathstar."

I necessary this Undesirable knowledge since I had taken for granted the worth of a Seagate Barracuda or a Western Digital. I saved a dollar or two at the time of purchase because I did not acquire the equivalent Western Digital or Seagate HDD. I'm grateful this the drive began to fail early becuase if it had produced it to one particular of my customer's machines a failing piece of hardware would be the least of my concerns. Hitachi does offer a warranty (I'll share additional on this beneath). Western Digital's RMA procedure is far more user friendly (web-primarily based only like Hitachi). Seagate is the only 1 who has a phone quantity, and when they answer the telephone their return policy has always been no inquiries asked. None actually, considering I have a lot of HDDs in stock. Nothing at all was lost, no 1 was hurt. In reality, thinking about how the value of storage has plummeted more than the last two years with a quite current leveling out, this is the excellent time for a HDD to fail! Much less than a month into a three-year warranty and this HDD begins with the tell-tale buzzing sound that implies iminemt failure ahead. It begins after it has been turned on for about five minutes, another 30 seconds and the OS is frozen, you can move the mouse cursor freely about the screen, but clicking gets you nowhere. It's rare for a R/W head to crash this soon, but when they crash early it's always inside 3 months. It's been years because the final time this happened to me, I guess it was my turn again. By the time I get around to RMA-ing this thing, these drives will be outdated and legacy pricing will kick in, I may even save 20 bucks!?!I'M Lucky it was this drive that failed. If it was an SSD I'd really be unhappy! The Deathstars are back! The unmistakable "death squeal" hasn't changed a bit. What has changed is Hitachi's lack of assistance. They post a couple phone numbers... I called the 1 that you'd feel could be your very best bet. The guy was polite but stated Difficult DRIVES ARE SEPERATE! I was provided a toll-absolutely free quantity to call for Hard DRIVES... 888-426-5214. It's a recording that says if you're challenge has anything to do with a HDD to go back to the internet site, and then it hangs up!

Inexpensive! AND it is fast enough. Runs wonderful if it doesn't arrive DOA. They run extremely quietly. Ordered three drives to construct a RAID five array. two of the 3 were DOA. RMA'd them and 1 of the two I ordered in was also DOA. RMA'd that one particular and I lastly had three drives for my array. I don't blame NEWEGG for the DOA's. All negatives of this transaction belong to Hitachi's Good quality Manage Group. 50% DOA is quite sad. This is unusual for Hitachi because their drives have always been leading notch. I guess it could be that this batch got dropped alot in shipment to NEWEGG...?? Anyway, the drive I now have that weren't DOA are operating actually effectively so that's why the 5 yellow balls. I'm not going to ding someone more than flukes. NEWEGG, nevertheless, AS Constantly, was great in assisting me get my products RMA's and replaced. I never have hassles with NEWEGG... that's whi I practically purchase exclusively from them.

Newegg double boxed with foam so the packaging can't be to blame. The boxed didn't appear like it was dropped or tossed about or kicked.Newegg came by way of with the RMA email for full refund and also presented cost-free UPS shipping label.I still trust Newegg but not Hitachi. I order two as it it was the shell shocked and I was in awe and shock and shellshocked alright at how both these drives failed at energy on - loudest clickety clang, clicking and not recognized by two different systems. Tried several sata cables and sata energy connectors on drives that had been operating and nevertheless no luck. I will in no way try Hitachi once again. Initially and final for me this time. Hitachi could be a Japanese brand but these have been made in china and I suspect poor good quality manage. buyer beware!!!I have owned hundreds of WD, Samsung, Seagate, Maxtor and never ever an epic fail like this.

Drive is overall rather nice, extremely quiet, comparatively quickly, very good for fundamental applications and gaming. Sadly the drive died inside the very first week and I didn't realize it. I formatted and it worked fine so I assumed it was no major dilemma. Regrettably the drive stopped responding altogether and I only noticed simply because my Pc began refusing to POST although the drive was plugged in. Not a negative drive, as with any drive you really should usually test them prior to you assume they are functioning without issue. I didn't test the drive that properly and now I will have to attempt and deal with Hitatchi to get a replacement, not my thought of entertaining.
