Cons: Battery life suffers do to it's dual core power output.

Pros: - Good screen resolution- Near full sized keyboard- Dual core
Comment:
Picked this up for my mum to use for work. Set it up with no issues and maintence of it so far has been painless unlike every other piece of computer equipment I set up for her!It has a fair bit of power, running her Roxio10 program with no issues for recording and burning on her external dvd burner. Quite glad we went with this model instead of the newer single core version.

Cons: Battery life could be better. Averaging four hours.

Pros: 12.1" monitor, good cpu power, excellent graphics for a "netbook".
Comment:
I purchased this machine a week ago and have been very pleased with it so far. This thing packs a punch. It can handle anything you throw at it. I was looking for a low end laptop/netbook for something portable and found this. Similar cost to an entry level laptop, but less bulk and better quality. Portability of a netbook, plus the power of a decent cpu and good graphics. So far it's running COD MW and COD WaW with zero problems...There is a premium price for the 1201N, but it's well worth it. There aren't many competitive models with features like this one has.Netbook size, Dual core Atom, and Ion graphics FTW.

Cons: Few to be upset about.

Pros: Many to brag about!

I would just like to point out to anyone who expects to be able to install more than 3.5GB of ram on this machine, the amount of ram is not a limit of the operating system but is a limit of the Intel Atom N330 processor. Whether you install a 32 or 64 bit OS you will only get up to 3.5GB of ram. Just check the Intel site for Specs.I don't own this yet, but will shortly. Research first, then purchase!

Cons: Fingerprint magnet, glossy screen, screen flex, tiny AC adapter plug

Pros: compact size, but full-sized keyboard, video quality, HDMI output
Comment:
I purchased this a month ago with the intent of using it for travel and casual use. However, as soon as I got it, I decided to test it out as my primary day-time PC, replacing the 17" laptop I've been using for work for the past three years. I have not been disappointed. In the past, I've also had the opportunity to use a EEEpc 9". While I loved the compactness, I found it almost impossible to develop any typing speed on the cramped keyboard. With this model (12") I can type every bit as fast as on my full desktop keyboard or on my 17" laptop. I thought the chiclet keyboard might be a problem, but it's not.The 12" screen provides enough viewing space and high enough resolution that the only time I long for a larger display is when I'm trying to run applications side-by-side. And I have aging eyes.I love the HDMI output, which allows me to connect it to my desktop computer's 24" monitor and simply switch the monitor's input when I'm working at home.Battery life is a respectable, but not spectacular four hours or so, and while I would love to be able to do a full day's work on a charge, I can live with four hours. The AC adapter is fairly small. I was able to find a neoprene sleeve with an exterior pocket that could accommodate the adapter and a small wireless mouse.Using a wireless mouse is a personal choice, but the touchpad seems quite good, whenever I've used it.My reservations about this machine have mostly to do with the glossy finishes and some structural compromises. I'm not so fond of polishing my purchases that I relish the glossy black fingerprint-magnet exterior, nor am I a fan of high-gloss screens, even though they would allow me to comb my hair - if I had any - or check whether I have spinach in my teeth. My one other reservation is that, in the interest of weight reduction, there are some understandable compromises in sturdiness. The larger screen panel (in comparison with a 9" EEEpc) makes for a more flexible screen, and the plug for the AC adapter seems more suited to a cell phone than a netbook/laptop. Futhermore, the VGA port, which is only a cm away from the AC adapter port, protrudes and interferes slightly with the elbowed adapter plug, making it too easy to put strain on the tiny plug.I'm also a bit surprised at just how much heat this little puppy can pump out of the vents on the left side. It's not quite to the point of requiring asbestos underwear to put it on your lap, but I find that I only keep it there for short periods of time.Overall, though, I find that the 12" size is the perfect fit for what I want to do. It provides me with a capable, compact computer with a full-sized keyboard. I've been using it for a month now as my primary work computer, and it's done just fine.

Cons: Touch-pad is a little trippy; bundled ASUS software is a little frustrating; battery seems a bit loose at times and is not flush with casing; front/bottom mounted speakers.

Pros: Small form factor, big screen; nVidia ION platform; Wimdows 7 Premium, not Starter; 6 cell battery; chiclet style keyboard excellent; Synaptics multi-touch touch-pad.
Comment:
For all the little nuisances this model has, it's still a rocking, solid, little beast of a machine. Kind of like the Monty Python Killer Rabbit of all netbooks. By no means is it an Alienware M11x, but you can still play games and be productive on the go in style and not have to worry about hauling your AC adapter everywhere you go. While the Super Smudgy black gloss finish is annoying, it pales in comparison to my two biggest peeves about this model. The speakers are mounted up front, on the bottom half of the case, practically begging you to plug in a set of headphones and the touch pad has no definite 'edges' so to say. The kinda bumpy raised dots are a nice texture change to tell you, but I would prefer a recessed 'pad with borders you can easily see and not worry about.Still, I digress. This netbook is clearly the current 'King of the Hill'. In fact, with a memory upgrade, you can very well play a match of KOTH in TF2...

Cons: touch pad is a little too sticky

Pros: Lightweight, Amazing Screen, Good webcam, nice keyboard, overall solid design, HDMI out, Nvidia ION is amazing
Comment:
Great laptop, video looks great on it, and the HDMI out is a great feature to have in a little netbook. The ION chip is extremely powerful for how small this computer is; I could run CODMW2 on medium-low settings. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a cheap and reliable laptop

Cons: track pad button, piano finish, low res webcam

Pros: 12" screen, compact, light, powerful netbook, HDMI out, great keyboard
Comment:
I've been looking at netbooks for the last year, but always found that 10" screens were too small. There wasn't much of a market for a 12" netbook until recently.I mainly use this netbook when I commute to work on the train (45 minute ride) every day. Along with a cellular data stick, this was the perfect device for me. Needed portability and also the dual-core processing power is a huge plus. The only complaints I would have is the trackpad button, it's a single button that requires you to press hard to have it register. Takes a little while to get used to drag/drop  with it. The other problem is the piano finish, finger prints all over the laptop.Overall it's great laptop for the price. I would purchase again and recommend if you're looking for a decent netbook.

Pros: Fast, good video card, easy to use
Comment:
I like about the video card in this notebook. Early, i was looking at the 11" eee and the S12 ibm. What i find is that this notebook better than others is the battery life. No others can beat this. i used to play battlefield MP. No problem.

Cons: No optical drive, but I didn't want it for one anyways.

Pros: Small, but with a larger screen than most netbooks.
Comment:
The speed of this machine is very nice. Playing games is very fluid and the ion chipset can keep up with almost everything I throw at it, even if it's not maximum settings. The storage space is spacious, the keyboard and touchpad take a little getting used to (much better than my eee7"). Windows 7 is a bonus over vista. I recently bought an Asus Wireless N router as well, and the wireless networking is pretty solid. You don't need a clean install of windows, just uninstall a few programs and msconfig the startup, and it's good to go. I absolutely love it.

Cons: These barely Weaknesses:Gets hotter than normal, but expected from this little powerhouse.Screen size at 1366x768 is just a little too small for my old eyes to see, but can be adjusted

Pros: Processing PowerQuick booting into Windows 7SizeScreen quality and imageKeyboard size and fingeringversatilityBuilt in HDMi portBest HD avi to HD TV decoder I've used. Excellent performance when watching movies on your HD tv/lcdPower management, getting me from 4 to 8 hours of run time
Comment:
Purchased the unit for a family vacation, took it with us.Travels well, boots super fast. The size is perfect. The kids watched movies on it, we surfed and did your basic internet type stuff. Had no issues at all. If you want to purchase an HTPC but may also want a portable unit, this is the machine.I have the unit powered on and plugged into my 42" lcd. I boot up Windows Media Center and play all our movies and music from the unit. I've added a the Microsoft Media Center remote with IR receiver to it and it works great.Power stepping processor keeps the machine up to its required performance.the 7.1 sound is passed thru the HDMi to my 5.1 sound system, where it performs great.Have not had any issues.Highly recommended to those who want a powerful but small portable unit, and those who may also want to double duty the unit as an HTPC.

Comment:
Amazing machine for its size, output, and price. By far one of the best netbooks on the market. Theres not much in its class that the 1201N cant handle. The HDMI out on this thing is awesome. I've played 2012 (1080p) on a friends 42" samsung without a tare in the screen. CS:S runs great at steam recommended settings. Ion is most noticeable at this point. You wont notice much of a difference when doing web-browsing and other basic computer tasks in comparison to other computers though. Battery life could be a little better. If thats what your looking for, wait for the 1201PN (Ion2 as well). It wont be dual-core though, which for a netbook is a great feature.Someone else has listed win7 32bit as a weakness... come on, their not giving out 64bit on this thing for that cheap... Its a Netbook. Also, Win7 install time is a weakness? Come on, its the first time your starting up a new computer, how can that be considerd a 'weakness'. A sleeve for this would have been nice, but i dont consider that a weakness, its not product hardware.Tony_K writes that the A330 cpu is a weakness. Impossible. The dual-core, with hyper-threading, is what really makes this thing worth while. Now, no new BIOS updates allow for OCing yet. But, with Octuner and a set of pc-5300 667mhz RAM you can get to a max of 2.120ghz. Pc-6400 800mhz ram is faster, but not for OCing. You'll need the 667mhz ram due to the overhead, as the cpu is tied into the RAM. At 1.8-1.9ghz the 800mhz RAM goes over a 1000mhz and the system becomes unstable. When considering buying a 1201N you must look at the competition its being compared to. In this case, its up against lower scale laptops, which in most cases it out performs. As a Netbook, that alone is a great indicator of its power. In my opinon, a great buy you'll be satisfied with. update  March/ 21/10Atom 330 dual core processor is a Weakness in MY "opinion" is because the FSB is only 533mhz. That means that the DDR2 800 will be limited to 533 bottle neck and will NOT use the full potential to go upto 800 mhz or if you have DDR2 667 The Atom 330 will CAP the memory to 533 FSB!ALSO I purchased G.Skill 4GB (2x2Gb) DDR2 800 Kit for my Asus 1201N, However the BIOS detected the full 4096MB/ 4GB ram but in my computer> proporties> only 3.25GB is "USABLE" Yes I know 64BIT windows 7 or OS is needed for FULL 4GB support and I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64 BIT still having the same issue at 3.25GB.Even with the NEW update d BIOS released 03/03/10 and on 64BIT win7 there is still a 3.25GB limitation!? Not to mention NO Drivers support for 64Bit os...But the good news is that the NVIDIA ION can run at 800MHZ from the MAX ram of DDR2 800 installed and will use the full potential, if not the ION can go higher to 1600MHZ but is limited once again by ddr2 because ddr3 is not compatible with the machine.I just wanted to Clarify for thoes interested in purchasing this machine and receiving the right information of what they are buying, unlike I did..........................................Review coming from a College student prospective:Very Nice size and weight, Nvidia ION graphics perfect for Cad design software. High HD resolution 1366x768 (higher than macbooks) Keyboard is very nice, but has a "little flex" not worth to mention. Build quality is Amazing of course by ASUS products and Number #1 when comes to PC. The body is BLACK high gloss and yes finger print magnet, but its sooo Nice like a paint job on a sports car. It looks bad dirty but when a black car is washed its Sooo NICE!Unfortunately ASUS did NOT include the MICRO FIBER CLOTH in this eee pc model? Asus also CHEAPED out on NOT including a travel case/Sleeve that had in the previous earlier eee pc models as well?!! The Atom 330 is par and honestly a disappointment in my opinion, but this Could get fixed with BIOS update   to overclock, maybe superhybrid engine to super performance to 1.83ghz? (again like the previous models?) 6 Battery is par getting 3.5hrs-4hrs max but then again 1201n is running Nvidia ION and duo Atom 330...Conclusion:As a College student it is perfect for me. Ok battery life, high res, Nvidia ion for causal gaming on campus, small form factor and weight is great. I do recommend the 1201N for students, but for the price you can get a Real NOTEBOOK with DVD burner include. I had to purchase external usb Samsung DVD burner and reformat with Fresh copy of Windows 7! I have on basic setting. I recommend duo core and/ or 4GB ram running windows 7, eats alot of memory even on idle...ASUS is moving in the right direction with EEE PC models every year and seem to be fixing the major issues to make new EEE PCs better! However I am very dissapointed in the lack of Extras that were not included that could have made the ASUS EEE PC 1201N close to perfect purchase / buy!Grade 95.5% /100-.5 flex keyboard-.1 Atom 330 only 533FSB not 667 or 800-.5 Battery could use a extra HR but now need an Extra batter-.5 No Micro Fiber to keep the nice Glossy Black with Blue flakes Nice and clean!-.5 Lack of Sleeve / case ???-.5 webcam 0.3mp and not 1.3mp??-.5 Windows 7 preinstalled with garbage software (fresh reformat and Fresh copy of win7 needed)-.5 BIOS needs to update d with Overclocking feature that was in previous models This review was modfied by poster n 03-07-10 08:22 PM This review was modfied by poster @ 03-21-10 02:01 PM

Cons: - glossy black finish holds fingerprints & is hard to clean- lots of Asus bloatware, trials etc come preinstalled- takes a LONG time to "initialize" Win7 on first bootup- no protective sleeve or case included- power brick gets pretty hot- mouse button bar is clunky, you have to be right on either edge to get a good pressdown- weak speakers; sound is better when using earphones- comes preinstalled with 32bit Win7- the wifi card is a Realtek 8192 but reports a different model number- power connector is tiny and flimsy

Pros: - 12.1" screen is gorgeous and easy on the eyes- trackpad was easy to get used to- HDMI connector is a bonus- keyboard is almost full-size but still perfect for someone like me with small hands :-)- really nice design
Comment:
Despite the number of weaknesses I've listed, I love this netbook. I wiped the hard drive after the initial setup and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix; everything worked great except for wifi. Turns out the wifi card in this unit reports an incorrect model number, so all the drivers and firmware I tried did not work. After a lot of tweaking and googling for fixes, I finally found the correct ones (Realtek 8192) and was able to get the wifi card recognized and running under Linux.Even if you stay with Win7, I highly recommend wiping the drive and installing the 64-bit version (your license key will work for both) to take advantage of the Atom N330 processor in this netbook. The preinstalled 32-bit version really crawls.
