Cons: -Software is laggy at times

Pros: -720P-Live Video Preview-Component and Composite Inputs
Comment:
I've had this PVR for a little over a week now and I love it. I can record Xbox and PS3 video in 720P and the file sizes of the recorded clips are relatively small. The only issue I've had is that the software that is included can be very laggy at times but most of the time it is fine. Great product, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone planning to record TV or games.

Cons: Software is only good for capturing, if you require to remove the commercials your in trouble.

Pros: Actual HD capturing capability, clarity of results
Comment:
I purchased this product to be able to export all my TV recordings from my PVR and it did just that. the only problem is the commercials was critical to be removed so that if the clip was rewatched it would be commercial free. The software included did not provide that flexibility. Also Window media center is a pain to configure but works nevertheless. I would had rated this 4 stars but because software maturity is poor I had to put this back to 3 star.

Cons: software below par, component input

Pros: HD quality 720p
Comment:
The Hauppauge HD-PVR is very good to record PS3 gameplay. I love the true 720p HD it provides. However, the software was very disappointing. You're better off to get a third party software to record. However, Hauppauge has done a great job. Too bad it doesnt have HDMI input/output.. it uses Component at the moment.

Cons: Get's a bit hot sometimesBlue LED could get distracting for some users

Pros: Very good video qualityLightDoes exactly what I want it to doVideo Conversion software isn't the greatest
Comment:
I bought this for one purpose and that is to record programs from my Rogers HD PVR. For that purpose, it did it perfectly and at a very high quality. If you plan on using this to record HD programming such as HD Sports, this is the best device you can use that is affordable. I recorded a HD NBA game and when I played it back on my pc, it was the best video quality I have ever seen in my life! Mind you, it was being recorded at 1080i. The video converter software from Arcsoft was decent at best. It did give you options to what resolution and what format to convert to but they were all presets for vieiwing on the ps3, ipod, xbox360, etc. So you were pretty limited to customization. As for the other features that come with it, I honestly see no use for it. I do not plan on using the IR blaster or the remote control as there is no point in me using it. If all you're planning on doing is recording HD programming to your pc, this is the right gadget for you!

Cons: Poor software

Pros: This is the only device that can record TV programs in HDVideo hardware accelerationGood image quality5.1 Surround
Comment:
Here we have a good product and mostly a UNIQUE product since its the only < 1000$ device that can capture HDTV with minimal lost of quality. No HDMI in/out is a Con ? No, because with HDMI the data is encrypted because of the HDCP norm so it is impossible to record HDTV that way! ...the only option is video component and it does it well!

Cons: Very poor bundle software, remote control doesn't work with bundle software and 3rd party applications are unstable and crash often using the built in IR-Blaster and Receiver.

Pros: Good video quality5.1 Sound
Comment:
You can't use the built in IR-Blaster or remote with the bundle software (ArcSoft TotalMedia Extreme). You can't even use it with the 3rd party applications, SageTV or DVB Link it make them unstable. The only thing you can do is record TV like with an old VCR without any kind of TV guide or live TV pause. If you want to use it with the 3rd party applications, you have to buy a USB IR-Blaster and a MCE remote or USB-UIRT, even then it will not be 100% stable. But it is the only solution to record HDTV(Not FTA)in Canada.

Cons: Expensive, even when on sale!No windows 7 media center support without purchasing additional software. No HDMI input.

Pros: Records HD video from a satellite or cable box.Works great with MythTV.
Comment:
At first I tried to use this recorder on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ with Windows 7 media center and DVBLink (third-party software needed to make the HD-PVR usable with media center), but unless the system was reset every day or so it would stop to record. I then tried MediaPortal (on Windows 7 and XP) but it too was very unreliable.Getting tired of making this thing work reliably in Windows, I then took an old celeron 2.93ghz PC and installed Mythbuntu 9.10 backend server on it. The HD-PVR worked reliably right out of the box.Currently I'm running 2 HD-PVRs hooked up to 2 Bell 6131 HD satellite receivers and 1 PVR150 hooked up to a Bell 2700 satellite receiver.I now can reliably record 3 programs at the same time (2 HD and 1 SD) and have not rebooted the PC in almost a month.

Cons: A bit Blury Not crisp and sharp as the originalPoor software bundledNo HDMI port

Pros: HD recording1920x1080 30fps Record5.1 Sound Dolby Digital recordingBetter use with third party softwareHardware video card acceleration recording with arcsoft Total Media Extreme software
Comment:
You must update  the drivers witch avaiable on the Hauppauge website if you want to record in Dolby Digital 5.1 . The recorded video quality is not sharp as the original feed. The software bundled with the package is poor, but it's does use video card acceleration. Better use 3rd party software to record. 5.1 Sound Dolby Digital recording is a very good thing. Cons: Audio distortion. Left and right channel is reverse. Can't record Bitstream signal. PCM only.

Pros: Good Video Quality.
Comment:
I had this product for about a week or so and then I had to return it. If you are just judging on the video quality, I would give 8/10 for that. Excellent video quality. However, sound was a major problem. At first I connect the audio via spdif with optical. It only decodes LPCM signal. Doesn't support AC-3 Doby Digital etc. The tech support promises the new driver will be able to solve such problem and it will be out in 4-6 weeks time. The statement was made in June. They never came out anything with it. So I went back to the analog connection. At first I found the distortion was a little annoying. So I connect the analog cables to my TV (which converts the audio signal to LPCM). It worked fine. Later on I found that the left and right channel is reverse. I had to plug the white cable into the red and the red to the white to deal with this problem. Videos are recorded in .TS format. The video takes up a lot of my system resources to play it smoothly on PowerDVD. I am running on a AM2 4200+. This review was modfied by poster @ 09-25-08 10:49 AM
