i'm making use of ubuntu 6.06 server lts and it works fantastic, had to get a driver to load through the install. linux drivers are available for most distributions, check the 3ware website. install the added tools and you can access the raid controller through a basic internet interface to check stats of disks and array. none card is type of long, but didn't get in the way of anything on my method. most raid cards are long from what i've come across. good excellent card. i accidentally unplugged a drive and had to rebuild the array so got to do an unplanned test and it worked fantastic no loss of data. :)

This is an update to my review posted couple of days ago about my expertise with 3ware RAID and ASUS P5E board. As I wrote, it was incredibly hot and doesn't perform the functions nicely so I decided to RMA it. Thanks to NewEgg for exceptional customer service.Superb US-based assistance. How on ASUS P5EWindows Vista drivers are not certified so you have to find documented methods to disable Vista driver signing and verification alternatives).BIOS settings are really basic (probably a Pros for somebody, but I prefer low-level adjustments). Installed Areca ARC-1210 controlled instead. What a difference! No difficulties with overheating, no difficulties with Vista drivers ࿀ and 64-bit Vista drivers certified by Microsoft months ago as opposite to 3ware!). Areca use Intel processor and it is supported (drivers for it are integrated) in Acronis Disk Image software program - excellent to make RAID disk/partition pictures with out BartPE or so...

This card handles four drives employing 4 lanes, exactly where each drive get its own lane. This is ideal. It worked out of the box for me with four Hitachi 500GB drives in a RAID five. The speed is outstanding. Three months soon after setting this up a tricky drive crashed, and the controller didn't miss a beat. I purchased a new drive plugged it in, and it was rebuilt overnight. Functions as advertised. I use it for RAID-five in a server with 4 1TB WD green drives, so 2.82 total TB readily available inexpensively.I paired it with the iStarUSA BPU-340-SA- BLUE in my Antec 1200 case, and am really happy with the final results. None. If you're obtaining trouble receiving the monitoring software (Windows Audible Visual Alarm) to autorun on Vista, use Process Scheduler to launch it at login and run with highest privileges. If you don't you'll have to unblock it at each startup from the method tray.

Quick, super straightforward to setup, onboard raid does not even come close when it comes to overall performance. The heatsink on the main processor is a bit weak, that issue gets hot enough to cook eggs on for these who complain it doesn't make breakfast. This is my initially committed RAID card and wow. Need to have gone with a RAID card a long time ago. I have four raptors in a raid config and this factor just fly. I'm amazed everytime I boot vista. I originally planned on doing a raid 5 setup but I format so usually that it's pointless. Be sure to install the software to allow the web interface, you'll have a few a lot more tweaks you can do there. If you do make a decision to obtain this card, you won't be disappointed.

Got it to upgrade my on-board RAID10 (ASUS P5E / X38 chipset), wanted greater overall performance, 4x 750GB WD AAKS. Installed the board on second PCIe slot which is 16x, very first is occupied by 8800GTS. Altrough POST procedure was substantially longer than typically, got into 3ware BIOS and set RAID10. Vista 32, 4GB RAM. Very extended POST procedure. Incredibly high temperature - more than 150F measured on both AMCC and chip with radiator. From time to time wont boot at all and need to have challenging reset. Looks like a issue with unique board or motherboard. There are some other customers in Online reported complications with X38 / P35 chipset boards. Drivers for Vista 32ኜ are still not certified by Microsoft. Card is low profile with passive cooling, really should run cool. Miltiline connector on the back with thin flexible cables. Really uncomplicated interface - effortless to setup RAID array. Note this card doesn't support RAID6 - you have to get 8-port version. 3ware tech support is really useful. 3 starts since this card may possibly operate just fine with numerous other boards. Call 3ware and ask them - they may have info about your board. Can't do very easily Disk Images with Acronis or Ghost - drivers for 3ware are not included, but you can use Windows PE and load them.

Wonderful efficiency, simple to setup and configure I wish I had purchased the 8-port model! Following reading by means of the previous critiques, it looks like pretty considerably everybody agrees that the overall performance on this card is major notch. I have located that to be absolutely accurate. There is a single issue that I wanted to mention about the battery backup unit (which is NOT integrated, and which I did NOT acquire). Several reviewers have talked about that the battery is essential in order to allow the write cache or to enable efficiency mode, but that is not true. I'm not advocating running with the write cache enabled with no battery backup - but it does seem like a very good UPS would be just as fantastic of a choice for a lot of users and they actually don't expense substantially additional than the tiny battery from 3ware. The 3ware manual really mentions that they advise either the battery backup unit or a UPS.Anyway, I am very delighted with this buy - the card is really flexible and effortless to setup, and the performance is excellent also. I just wish I had gone with the 8 port model now!

RAID 5, RAMLatest linux kernel has drivers built in.Organization creates drivers for virtually each and every OS. none so far. Test with RAID five, not issues at all.I just plugged in all the drives, booted into linux and BAM I had a new drive to fdisk. No drivers to set up either. My subsequent RAID card will be another one from 3ware.Extremely advise getting a UPS, incase of power failure. The data in the card cache(ram) can be written to the disk. Otherwise it possibly lost forever.

Very quickly RAID card, effortless set up w/Octopus cbl, very full challenging copy install manual, really, really total user's manual on CD. No RAID6 help. You have to print the user's manual, all 349 pages, to get the most out of it. Computer software on the CD and that I downloaded from 3ware would not load from the run files. I managed to load the Beta driver from the W7 Device Manager. Hopefully 3ware will get this fixed by the time the production W7 is released. I realy wanted an arcea ARC-1210 (see my overview), but I only had an X4 electrical x16 slot available immediately after sticking graphics cards inthe other 2 PCI-e x16 slots of my ASRock X58 Exrteme BD. Yet another though, some have produced comments about packing. Mine came in the center of the box surrouned by peanuts. Perhaps it just depends on the packer. QC issues in the shipping Dept?

Card was immediately detected with XenServer four.1.. This card replaced a less expensive brand which wasn't detected. Wonderful BIOS level management capabilities vs less costly brands. Be quite cautious with this card in rackmount servers. The extended ML connector BARELY fit in my Tyan Transport G24 chassis. I literally had to bend it to fit in between the tiny gap among the two CPU heatsinks. My only worry now is the CPUs obtaining hot enough to melt the SATA cables. I was 2mm away from not being in a position to use this card. Those without case mod practical experience or poor cable management may possibly want to steer clear of this card when used in tight locations. Acquire the BBU (battery backup unit) along with this card! It's a substantial extra price (found here on NewEgg - BBU-MODULE-03) but the card seriously isn't worth its cost with no it.

-Don't have to boot into BIOS to configure settings.-The ACard ANS-9010 performs *very* effectively with this controller. -Configuration is a little confusing, took a handful of hours fiddling.-Card depends on a LOT of air movement for cooling. (I had to replace the passive heatsink with an active 1 for it to not overheat in my case) pricey, but you do get what you spend for.this RAID card is not officially listed by ACard as a supported RAID controller for the ANS-9010. The ANS-9010 operates very properly with the 3ware controller.

My seagate 250s had been slow on this card - went to WD640 Caviar Blacks and the speed was fantastic - some drives might not perform nicely with this card. 3Ware now sold to LSI - powerful April 20th, 09 - 3ware web web site is down now, so you can't download the most recent drivers or firmware - remains to be noticed what assistance there will be for this card - drivers and tech assistance and so on. four WD640s set up in RAID10 on this with a Gigabyte EP45-DQ6 board. I also have a RAID five array on the ICH10R and have had no issues with either performing nicely collectively.

Good price Would be good if it worked. I've been actively in search of a workaround for this card on an Asus P6T Deluxe V2. It really should function. But, the 3ware bios won't load as give an insufficient PMM Ram conflict. This is the similar issue knowledgeable, from what I read, on the Rampage version of this board. Alas, I seem to be stuck waiting for Asus to fix the bios in an update. Some issues in no way adjust. I'll maintain digging for a workaround and attempt the original bios for the V2 in the meanwhile. 0203 didn't operate and 0302 didn't function. Trying the x4 port and the x16 Š port didn't assistance either. The 3ware card has been flashed and updated to the most current firmware and drivers. No aid.

3ware controllers are a hardware answer utilizing a chipset developed for SCSI. They add circuitry to supply the SATA interface. I have utilized their controllers for more than five years and have installed about 50 in other systems. Although some have failed, I have always located 3ware technical help to be substantially far better than what is common to the computer sector these days (which is really terrible). They have repaced about ten controllers for me and never ever a hassle - - even when the controllers had been employed with unapproved motherboards and disk drives. The compatibilty list on 3ware's internet site leaves a lot to be desired. Handful of modern motherboards are listed. Considerably of the trigger of this rests with the motherboard producers who introduce a lot of new motherboards with practically no modifications - - just also quite a few models. It is a selling gimmick. If you have a query about compatibilty, get in touch with or send e-mail to them and ask. They are generally quick to respond. RAID puts unique demands on disk drives and the least expensive property Computer kind drives are generally not up to the activity. "Enterprise series" drives are built additional like SCSI drives and that is the type you will need for RAID.

I have tried this board on two diverse desktop motherboards by sticking it into the 16x PCI-e slot meant for a video card. (the motherboards came with built-in video). The 3ware card's bios shows it working with four lanes - a single for every drive. Quite rapidly. Gets warm. Couldn't get 4 drives to work as JBOD - had to stripe the drives (raid ) to have the drives recognized in various linux OSes. (clonezilla, gparted, openfiler) Didnt attempt JBOD with Windows. Somewhat high-priced. Only wish I had a different a single.

Committed CPU, RAM, a true Hardware RAID solution. The breakout cable assists maintain points neat in the case. Really reputable. Passively cooled and not hot. You are capable to create separate logical drives from an array. Eg 4 x 750GB drives in a RAID 5 can be split into say 250gb logical drive and a 2TB logical drive. BBU (Battery Backup Unit) is sold separately. I have 2 of these units and 1 of its PCI-X siblings 񣿎SXU-4LP) in my production atmosphere. I have owned many 3ware IDE RAID cards as effectively. They have always been particularly trusted, rapidly, and low-cost. I have 1 in my Email server and one particular in my Windows Domain controller. The BBU is a need to, as it will automaticly disable the RAM on the card and challenging drives if you don't have it. It should seriously be bundled with the card.
