I bought this printer to replace or support important print jobs that the Samsung CLP-300 and 310 could not do. I have no idea why I bought both of those series of junk. Away with the old onto the new.The Canon Pixma 8120 is a high end all-in-one printer from canon's inkjet series. It is a scanner and printer, not exactly all in one but it's good enough. That being said, it lacks fax options.The printer comes with 6 different ink cartridges, two blacks, one ink and one pigment based, the typical cyan magenta and yellow but also a grey ink. The grey ink enhances photography filling. In terms of print speed, due to the advance system to wait an optimal amount of time before printing the next page standard text takes a little bit longer than similar printers. I would say it still beats my samsung CLP series in speed due to the amount of time it takes the roller to start.Cost of pages is a little bit negative, as this is marketed as a high quality photo printer it is not surprising that full color pages cost a little above average at 13 cents per page. Black ink cost based on their yield is at about 5 cents. In contrast my CLP-310 black toner replacement cost me 51.99, it did not make its 1.5k page yield and crapped out at about 1250... making it not much better at 4.15 cents per page. Mixed text and graphics also printed very well.I printed a few 4x6 inch photos with the supplied glossy photo paper and it is quite amazing. I also own the Pixma MG5220 and it is quite a bit higher in quality. I plan to buy some expensive canon photo paper and print some photos when I have the chance. The photo quality with glossy paper and authentic ink is beyond even the online or store easy print services using a camera cards.Scanning is very fast and can be done wirelessly. The scanning is consecutive and the easy to use software can continuously scan into a pdf file until you are done. WiFi setup is simple and easy as well provided you have a router.Overall MG8120 is a high end printer with a great scanner at a really good price point (179.99 sale price at the writing of this). The inks are 13-17 dollars per cartridge which isn't that expensive unless you are consistently printing high ink usage color photos which would be expected as expensive. I am very satisfied with this and believe it will last me more than the 6-8 months these other cheap sale printers i bought in the last 4 years will.You can see full details in cost calculations and additional details at computershopper's review. |
Ok I didn't know what I was getting into when I get this printer and I am glad that I didn't as this printer is outstanding. I would recommend it to anyone that would open a business. also I get it for $180 so I think I get my money worth.
