Cons: - Keyboard keys may seem shallow to some - Touchpad has rough surface; takes some time to get used to (recommend using wireless mouse when on flat surface) - Screen has limited viewing angle (fine for most people, but not for the professionals) - Lack of decent customer support (infuriating for those who lack computer know-how)

Pros: - Very efficient and fast CPU (maximum 4 hours of usage unplugged) - Solid body - Looks great (rare at price range)- Short boot time into Windows (as advertised) - USB 3.0 support (can transfer data at higher speeds with compatible devices) - Dedicated graphics card (rare at price range)
Comment:
The MSI CX640-071US can be a great computer - if you know what you're doing that is. Unfortunately the default OS is pretty slow due to all the shareware MSI has installed on it, so you're better off reformatting and reinstalling Windows 7. Who should get this computer? - Anyone willing to spend time online/offline looking for solutions to computer problems (or has access to someone who is) - Higher education students looking for a fast laptop with longer battery life - Amateur graphics designers/students looking for a computer with more juice to run photo-editing/video-editing applications Who should not get this computer? - Anyone who stops at the slightest computer problem and cannot get help (or does not want to) - Professional graphics designers (higher expectations for screen specifications) For those who want to reallocate hard drive space without reinstalling Windows, forget it. When I shrunk the C drive and allocated the free space to the D drive in Disk Management, the computer instantly got a BSOD, and after I rebooted, D drive was no longer accessible in Windows. This was one of the reasons why I chose to reinstall Windows 7. For those who do want to reinstall Windows 7, keep the following tips in mind (I literally spent a day trying to figure out one of the solutions, so ignore at your own peril). Try not to change your BIOS settings (except boot priority) until the solutions below have been implemented:- The optical drive on this laptop is very sensitive towards certain brands of blank media (will have trouble reading media). I suggest using Ridata as it seems to work on everything I have. - Install the drivers using the Driver CD provided with the laptop. Try not to use Windows update  until all the drivers have installed successfully. - If the nVidia driver on the Driver CD or MSI support page says that the graphics hardware is not detected/compatible, download the WHQL-certified GT520M driver from the nVidia support page, and install the International version (the English version does NOT work) For the budget conscious: As of this date (June 29, 2011) there are many last generation Intel equipped computers on sale for over $100 less than this laptop. However, some people will agree that an extra 2 hours of battery will be worth the price; especially the students who find that there are no power outlets in their lecture halls/classrooms. The USB 3.0 support which only comes on the new computers also ensures that your computer will support the capabilities of the latest (and future hardware). There are many people who do not require a dedicated graphics card but still want longer battery life. There are Sandy Bridge processor equipped laptops for around $600 with similar specifications (and better customer support) as of this date. Casual users who just want to use keep their laptops at home or at work would find the last generation Arrandale equipped laptops fine for their needs. Conclusion: I put in a lot of time and effort to get this computer working (about 3 days, a lot more than previous computers), but I felt that getting it to reach its full potential was worth the time put in. While others may balk at spending this much time getting something to work, I wrote this review precisely so people will know what they are getting into when they buy this computer, and more importantly, how they can overcome the difficult technical issues. In the end, I will never rate a computer on how much work I will have to put into it, but rather how well it performs after I have done all that I possibly could to increase its performance. And for that, this computer can (and now does) perform very well.
