ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:lack USB ports

Pros:Easy to use, reliable
Comment:
Good affordable router in the market.Lack of USB ports for supporting NAS. Also only supporting up to N standard may not be adequate for PRO users.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:Firmware unstable

Pros:Small form factor, 2 antenas, good price for functions offered
Comment:
Bought 2 of these in 2012. Have been struggling to make them operate stable. 5GHz band always became unstable and required a power cycle to restore the functions of the router. After going through 6 firmware upgrades, I put the Tomato open firmware, and that made the router very stable. For $50, you get a dual band, dual antena, 11n wireless router, and that's not bad.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:Not stable.

Pros:Smart looking device, small and compact, cool status LEDs, simple installation, doesn't install junk software on your PC.
Comment:
Device freezes and needs to be power cycled once or twice a day. Replaced once with same model. The second device failed with the same problems. I got a different brand the third time.Could have been a really great product with its feature set and looks. Too bad there's something not right on the inside that makes it crash.NCIX was good about the exchange.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:cannot find a way to use the VPN im paying for

Pros:small, easy to use, nice interface
Comment:
so used to the linksys routers that it shard to find my way around but overall the interface is so much nicer. The router itself is not the prettiest girl at the dance but still doesnt look cheap. its very small and seems well built. I wouldnt say as much about the stand which i was afraid i would break when trying to put them together.setup was very easy, speeds are good. i didnt do any specific tests but did not notice a better connection in my house. the xbox in the livingroom and our cellphones seems to connect faster though. Sadly though the modem isnt supported by many VPN such as Unblock.us which i was already using. still trying to find an alternative thats gonna work.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:buggy firmware

Pros:low price, multiple SSID
Comment:
Hard to find a dual band router with multiple SSID support but it comes in the form of multiple guest network. And the firmware is still buggy (Dec 2013). Interface is pretty nice and provide with good info.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:the 5G wifi is not stable. my playbook and touchpad sometimes have problems when trying connect.the DHCP service is not working sometimes. I have to setup IP and gate information manually to connect.the 100 Mbps lan ports is the worst points. how could the 300Mbp WIFI work with the low bandwidth lan/wan?

Pros:good design and LED lights.good GUI when update  to the latest firmware.
Comment:
this router could support DD-WRT firmware that very stable for long time running. but the LED will turn off under DD-WRT. and the 5G will down then too.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:Unreliable, requires a reset every 2-4 days

Pros:Easy set up
Comment:
I have been very disappointed with this router. It drops the wi-fi signal every 2-4 days, randomly, and requires a reset. I have tried multiple ways to fix the problem, and none have worked as a permanent solution. After some looking online, it appears I am not the only one with this problem. I have tested my devices (phone, laptop) on my old, ancient router, as well as at work and friends houses, and both work fine. It is very clearly the router.I was particularly disappointed because I am a fan of Asus and have never had a problem with any of their products. While I can make the router work (with a bi-weekly reset), I would certainly advise anyone against buying it, and would never purchase it again.*I have only given this 3 stars because it 2 stars requires my order ID, and apparently the one on my NCIX receipt isn't working.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:The initial firmware (before firmware upgrade) were slow on saving setting changes and restarting service, and drops connection when saving setting changes. Updating the firmware solves the problems.

Pros:Stable, never drop  connection once setup properly. Wireless signal is reasonably strong.Nice design overall.QoS works well.
Comment:
update  the firmware makes it so much easier to work with. The settings page are intuitive. Have all the standard settings for normal use.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:Bad firmware, not stable

Pros:Decent hardware
Comment:
I am used to buying Asus routers in the past that have performed well for the given price. This model has proved to be nothing but a problem from the start. Ordered about 3 of them and only 1 is working satisfactory. The other 2 will take configuration and seem to work fine, but as soon you power cycle the unit it goes into firmware restore mode and will not come back to life until the firmware file is uploaded.Tried loading older firmware but same deal. Asus support isn't very helpful and just tells me to RMA.

Cons:No gigabit wired portDefault firmware admin GUI slowDD-WRT/Tomato do not support this router yet

Pros:Decent performanceNice appearance
Comment:
Nice router overall, although the default firmware's admin GUI waits for a minute or so after every change in configuration, which can be infuriating.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:Could have a little bit more info in the booklet

Pros:Nice design,works perfectly,easy to install
Comment:
Works perfect on all my device. Ethernet port is fast. Start my lap top and connect instantly. Start my BoxeeBox and catch it instantly, my old router was not ableto see my Boxee. The rebate from Asus is a Amex gift card. So don't buy it for the manufacturer rebate.

ASUS RT-N53 ULTRA-THIN
Cons:Awkward positioning of Ethernet ports, WiFi network changes must be made one at a time, Lengthy first time setup, No Gigabit Ethernet.

Pros:Looks Great, Multiple SSID Options, Great WiFi Performance
Comment:
I purchased this router to replace my aging DI 624 on our home network. Setting up the unit for the first time was a bit of a pain as I had to manually do each of the WiFi streams one at a time. After selecting your preferred network settings you would then have to wait for one minute for the router to save and reboot/reload these desired settings. This may be a little tedious, however, after this initial step was done other options such as changing the QoS engine or parental controls can be done on the fly.Wireless performance on this router is simply stunning, compared to my old router I am able to get solid signals on my wireless devices in areas where I never would before. In addition I can now have multiple wireless clients on the network and not experience slow down or resets when lots of data is being moved across WiFi ie Streaming HD video or computer backups. In order to take that further I have relegated my old router to a wireless G access point and the Asus RT-N53 as a wireless N only client. It was very easy, just disable the DHCP client on my old router and plug it into the Ethernet ports on the RT-N53 and I was good to go!Which leads me to the Ethernet ports, while the positioning is great for those who wish to wall mount their unit, however, with the included stand it may look a bit silly to have your wires poking out of the side of the unit. However this is mostly cosmetic and comes down to a "do I care or not" situation. Another thing to note is the lack of Gigabit Ethernet which I would have liked to have seenOverall very impressed with my first router from Asus, and I would highly recommend and buy again!
