ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:- None

Pros:- Amazing sound- On board amp- Loud - Looks great
Comment:
I stepped up to this from the Razer Barracuda. A friend recommended me this sound card, and he said that this was a one of the best cards for listening to music via headphones. Well what can I say about that statement...He was 100% correct this sound card was amazing paired up with my Audio-Technica's AD700. The Asus card offers great sound quality for listening to music, watching movies and even gaming which is great. With music, I notice much more details paired whether with my headphones or my Z-5500 speaker setup. Install was simple and easy and the software isn't that bad either. The user interface is very user friendly and offers many fun sound settings with such as your basic EQ, small/large room settings, gain, surround/stereo. Overall I'm very happy with this sound card, highly recommended.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:-Thick EMI shield-PCI-E, usually next to your video card-Require Molex plug, extra wiring but it's actually more of a good thing

Pros:-Headphone audiophile on a computer dream come true-Pure, Clear sound, unbelievable coming from a computer hardware-Did I say clear? no static noise at all-Super Powerful amp, can power up high end Ohm headphones-SPIDF header, for your HDMI pass through video card-Require Molex plug, extra wiring but it's actually more of a good thing-Newer driver fixed a lot of the problems
Comment:
Headphone audiophile dream come true, on a computer! If you enjoy your music on your computer, and willing to pay a little extra, this is the card for you. This card can drive any quality headphones with it's amp, including 600+ Ohm ones. Clear Sound, not a sign of statics, which is unbelievable for a piece of audio computer hardware. Many awesome features on this card including SPDIF header, front panel header, swapable opamp, EMI shield and much more, but the best of all it's the quality of sound this thing can provide.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:The volume knob on the Essence STX software doesn't work on my computer, but the volume on my keyboard works...

Pros:Awesome sound quality. The headphone amp really shines with good headphones.
Comment:
This is the best soundcard I ever heard in my entire life. Like someone said, this is THE card to get for headphones freaks like me. The amp can drive any high-end headphones out there so no worries on getting a 200$+ separate amp with your normal soundcard. Not really a gamer soundcard but for me it's more than adequate.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:Can't mute headphones in PCM digital output...That's my only gripe to be completely honest, this thing is a work of art.

Pros:-124dB SNR, 24bit/192 & fantastic amp section! SOUNDS AWSOME.-SPDIF pins + optical/composite out-Shielded components, and barriers between power/amp circuits-Uses 4-pin molex (This is to use the PSU's relatively cleaner power circuitry instead of the pcie bus power grid, THIS IS NOT A CON, the engineers did it for a reason!)
Comment:
THIS IS A HEADPHONE USERS DREAM OF A CARD.-I use this card with my Denon AH-D2000, it sounds fantastic!-This sound card is easily comparable to a ~600$ DAC+AMP combo. (Combos are generally pricey because of the small companies you deal with, and large markup associated with it)This thing is such a steal, and if you are hesitating to buy it because it's expensive... that's simply the wrong reason to hesitate.-DOLBY HEADPHONE(Use 5.1 in games + this for surround)-BITMATCHING(HI-FI) !-24bit/192k suppourt-Drivers are better than creative by a long shot, and can suppourt EAX 4.0. Work's fine on today's cpus, and works the same as EAX (I had a Audigy 4, with EAX 4.0)-PCIE and Molex power(clean power)BUY IT.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:Driver interface a little awkward at first

Pros:Unbelievably clear soundAdjustable gain for different headphones
Comment:
I've got this paired up with my Sennheiser HD650's and it's freaking awesome. The bring a whole new meaning of clarity to my music. Everything sounds so distinct. The driver interface was a little awkward at first, it just takes a little getting used to. Haven't had a chance to test the EAX simulation. This breathes some new life into my old Motley Crue and Metallica tracks.Downright an incredible sound card and I recommend it to anyone with decent headphones.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:It's bulky. I had to use a 16x slot on my motherboard because the NB was in the way of the 1x slot. It took me quite a while to configure it the way I wanted it. The card only comes with 1 gold plated connector. If you're going to be using the mic, you'll need to go out and buy another 1.Bit pricey, but any good quality product is money well spent!

Pros:Wow, sound quality, amazing. Flat out incredible in games. Good experience all around. My sennheisers PC 350 are really shinning. The build in Amp is great.
Comment:
Def a learning curve with this one. Specially with Vista x64. Overall , amazing sound quality, the software is brilliant and easy to use. Any type of shooters with a decent pair of headphones you'll want this card.

ASUS Xonar Essence STX 124 dB SNR / Headphone AMP Card
Cons:The EMI shield is very thick. May cause issues if installing in a slot above a video card that has a backplate on it (waterocoling, etc.)

Pros:Phenomenal sound quality and build quality, low mem usage of the audio software (10mb)
Comment:
This thing is phenomenal. The sound quality coming out of it, for a $200 card, is unbelivable. It completely replace my Corda 3MOVE headphone amp. As said though, if you watercool your graphics card (mine has the D-TEK GFX2 block) then you'll run into issues with the thick EMI shield hitting the screws on the back of your mounting plate. This is only if you're installing it right above your video card. In the end I got it in, but its pushing down on the screw and my video card is now slightly bent. Nothing that makes it not work. I've also scratched my EMI shield because the screw was rubbing against it, but oh well. This review was modfied by poster @ 01-02-09 02:36 PM
