HIGHPOINT EXTERNAL RAID HBA ROCKETRAID 2314 4ESATA PCI-E
Comment:
Economical Excellent with lots of expansion obtainable when utilized with right enclosures and port multipliers. Rocket Raid website and manual say only 4 drives.. but I confirmed with them ahead of my obtain and it does indeed help the port multiplier.. they just haven't updated the site. Little vague on set up directions. They need to update their web site! ;-) THIS IS A Must! Update to most latest BIOS and DRIVERS from the highpoint internet site. ( not from CD supplied ) Also, when flashing the raid card's bios, and you have an additional raid you boot from off the mobo, make positive you configure the rocketraid bios effectively or you will not boot at all! ( disable EBDA and INT13 functions ) And if you don't have the most recent windows drivers and you do boot.. you will shed the additional drives in your enclosure and only be in a position to produce a single JBOD. In other words you loose the port multiplier function.

Perhaps there are far more now, but when I was specifying SATA RAID cards for our backup method, this was the most reasonably priced Port Multiplying RAID Card for Mac's. Questionable support and drivers. It nonetheless appears pricey to me. Perhaps because its a tiny card. :)Card demands driver in 10.5.8 :( The initial RAID Array I set up performed POORLY. Possibly 20MB/sec. Possibly.I got worried, went to JBOD and decided that 60mb/sec wasn't going to cut it either.I am on OS ten.five.8, so I was making use of the 10.five.x driver package. When I decided to rebuild the array I installed the 10.6 (SL) WebGUI package on best of the 10.five driver.Recreated the RAID array, and whammo, 150MB/sec - considerably closer to what I expected. Not confident if the updated WebGUI made the distinction or not.I use this card in conjunction with 5 x 2TB drives and a SansDigital five Bay Port Multiplying enclosure. As a JBOD I was obtaining roughly 60-80MB/sec transfers. As a RAID , I am obtaining about 150MB/sec transfers.I wouldn't put anything extremely beneficial on a RAID or five configured by this card. If what you have is seriously useful RAID 1 or 1Ʈ is a superior alternative.I use it in RAID as a back-up to our RAID 6 FC array. Yipee for data redundancy!

none Installing driver for linux is quite, very challenging. It requires you to copy a floppy image and then it gets tougher with kernal modifications. I don't have a floppy.

Wonderful card, fast transfer speeds and quite stable. This card will have troubles on the new Sandy Bridge motherboards. If you use the built in motherboard RAID with some tough drives, this card will cause your entire method not to work. For some unknown reason, this card does not like other RAIDs operating on your technique. Do be aware of that. Support from High Point could be immensely improved. Rather simply, there is no assistance for this card from the manufacturer.

When it functions it works. But when it doesn't it actually doesn't Poor technical assistance, I applied to call there, now they don't accept calls anymore. As soon as (and still do) I had a challenge with information corruption. I was told that I ought to call back in a week. I did and then, was told give us a month to update the software. We're updating it to incorporate a recover function. I did. When I known as back they had no information of any upgrade or what I was talking about. Btw it was the similar guy. I had some problems in life let it go and pulled off what information I could leaving the rest for the delivery of the vaporware. 10 months later I called and spoke to the very same guy right after now going through the receptionist (who can not speak English) who hung up on me at least four occasions (average 30 minutes on hold). So I insisted to speak to an individual (veins now bulging from my head) and their assistance information is absolute rubbish. Please submit via the email portal on our web page. Save your funds and DO NOT Get THIS PIECE OF RUBBISH. I'm not allowed to say simply because it involves violence to my Raid Tower. (An innocent victim in all this.)

Fast to ship, nice box The item only saw 3 of 4 of our drives on our mac server. We spent 2 weeks with tech assistance, and they were okay, but ultimately had to return it. Really disappointing.

Worked fine with XP. With 64 bit Vista, item is amazingly slow ƕ meg / Secod with Raid five or Raid 10... 11 Meg per second with raid , and if all four i750gb individual drives are stand alone, 11 meg / second

Port multiplication, eSATA, RAID, fast none The people today complaining about this controller are noobs.JBOD "issue" of can't use it on an additional controller -- just delete the JBOD before re-deploying the drive.Single drive "issue" -- just partition and format the drive as a standalone. The connect it to the controller and the controller will recognize it as "legacy" drive and use it as a single standalone drive.Working with this controller with Addonics and Sans Digital eSATA port multiplier supported controllers. Quick and easy, if you know what you're doing.

When it works it works well. (Intel MacPro OS X 10.5) Card doesn't work 80% of the time. Causes significant slow downs on my machine. Tried to function with tech support. They were slow and unhelpful.

Comment:
Fantastic performance. four-port with 4-lane PCIe interface. Moderately flexible configuration choices. Vista x64 compatible. Supports lots of drives. Excellent value. Superior support (maybe; see below). Terrible (but functional) BIOS/GUI configuration tools. Mediocre documentation. Can't control stripe size. Write cache only accessible for RAID 5 (why?). Want to re-load BIOS to alter some settings (INT13, boot screen pause duration, and so on.). Frequently can't delet or unplug array right after touching it with any Windows application; no selection to force unplug. Based on other reviews, I started off by flashing the BIOS to the newest release. Had no problems with setup / compatibility, even with my otherwise problematic Vista Ultimate x64 box. Sequential read/wite performance is awesome. Random read/write performance is only decent, but still a great value for the value. Configuration tools are terrible and doc is so-so, which has lead to some tech support calls (admittedly, for fairly advanced issues). Support responded very quickly the initial time; still waiting for the second time immediately after a couple of days.Overall, I'm satisfied. I could use a little far more flexibility (e.g. stripe size), but not willing to pay for it on a controller that's only serving files to a couple of users. This product hits the mark for its intended market. I may buy another 1 of these for running an array to store backup images.

The card works incredibly well! I have two on them in my poweredge 1800 with a Norco DS-1220 connected to each and every of them. The cards offer a accurate hardware RAID and performs wonderful. The beeping that comes off of the card is genuinely loud. It's finest to cover it with a piece of tape to minimize the loudness. I haven't had the most luck with the 1220, mostly it just keeps breaking and Norco won't pay for the return shipping. It's a real pain!

HIGHPOINT EXTERNAL RAID HBA ROCKETRAID 2314 4ESATA PCI-E
Cons:Pricey, web interface

Pros:Fast, no problems
Comment:
I use this on my 2009 Mac Pro to run a couple of eSATA drives, non-RAID. Have had no problems other than a few times where the web interface would no longer detect the card. I wish Highpoint would write a proper Mac app rather than web interface. I had to unplug and replug the card to reset. Other than that, no problems.
