Would of been excellent if it worked. Took nearly a week to get here then once it did it was DOA. Couldn't get the drivers to work at all on my comp tried 64bit and 32 still no luck. DOA - took nearly 6 days to get here with the super saver I advocate utilizing yet another choice if you chose the egg saver. Was going to use this so I can have yet another DVD drive guess I'll have to buy one more 1 1st time I have ever had a difficulty with newegg but these factors happen.

It does exactly what it's advertized to do, offers you 4 SATA ports and as lengthy as you update the driver online you have it made in the shade. (see cons) The gap in the slot was, as other evaluations had pointed out, also tiny to fit. Realizing this just before I bought it, I had some 60 grit sandpaper folded in half and ready. Following unsuccessfully attempting to force it in (worth a shot) I sanded it for 5 seconds, thus widening the gap and making it match like a glove. I was nervous, as I always am when I regularly skimp out on cheap personal computer components, but in the finish soon after five seconds (literally) of elbow grease I was fantastic 2 go. Some could complain about it's poor design, but hey this isn't a great world and New Egg testimonials make life worth living. Thanks to all those who provided the option ahead of I even bought the product.

price, and yeah it's got 4 ports. any person else make a four port sata controller? with or without having raid. I know adaptec tends to make 1 for PCI-E and PCI-X junk, inexpensive, tight match in a common PCI slot, had to take a file to the rear PCI important and make it wider in order to match into my motherboard. JUNK JUNK JUNK. why would SI even operate with MASSCOOL and not fully test this product before putting it on the market place. I read other critiques about a SATA port falling off? I just monkey soldered all of the port holders so this doesn't take place to me

4 SATA ports - great price tag. Comes configured for RAID use only. It will be unusable with a single drive or mis-matched drives. You have to flash the BIOS to use this card with individual difficult drives (non-RAID). If you strategy on carrying out RAID, just attach two identical tough drives, configure the array, and use the integrated drivers. For non-RAID, go to the Silicon Image internet site and download updflash V3.36, BIOS V5.3.04 and Driver V1.3.10.As soon as the suitable software is installed, this is a good tiny add-on card, but if your not doing RAID, then I can only suggest it for seasoned Pc techs and hobbyists.

Cheap. Recognizes 2TB drives OOTB. Supports Ɣ) 2TB drives. Comes with two (short) cables. Functions with WHS (use 2003 driver). 1) The 3.3v and 5v notches on the bus interface are WAY also smaller for most motherboards. The card have to be PUSHED IN Difficult. I bought 4 cards and *all* suffer from this difficulty. Examine it for yourself. Place this card by any other PCI card, and you will see the notches are about 20% narrower, which tends to make for an ultra-snug fit. I couldn't even get these to go into the Tyan Tiger 200T, so I have to RMA them.two) the top quality of the board construction itself is quite low, but not unexpected given the cost tag.

low-cost, powerful, so far reliable. No drivers required (currently using Debian five) works fantastic on an old p4 process. i would like to shorten the time it takes for the card bios to load or the time that it waits for input but other than that its fine I've been running 2 of these on a rather huge house server. it has all the ports filled and i strategy on buying 2 much more (one for upgrade and one particular as a spare) This works great on Linux (using Debian five for the server) and under no circumstances had to be concerned about any drivers or kernel building. I did not use any RAID functions on the card, it is merely a sata controller and all my RAID arrays is accomplished with mdadm and LVM.

It operates (with caveats). Fast low-cost fix to add storage to older systems. I did not have the dilemma physically adding the drive, perhaps since I followed the tip of beginning the card at the front of the slot. It will not function with 750GB drives and up. I did get a WD 640 operating, so I am assuming something up to it will operate. Do not use the driver disk included, but let XP locate it on the 'net. Otherwise you'll finish up with a non-working card - as previously mentioned BIOS should match driver and no quantity of searching gave me a working BIOS flash. I now have a new 750GB SATA sitting idle and had to order one more WD640 to get any use out of the card as I intended. If there is anyway of making use of 750s with this I'd sure like to know how.

NO Notion what everybody is moaning about. I didn't even require to use the integrated driver cd. I plugged this in to my Windows Home Server machine and went to device manager -> unknown device -> update driver -> automatically search and install driver. Carried out. Didn't will need a bios flash or something. Maybe I got a newer model. I haven't attempted making use of a 500+gb hard drive, so possibly thats exactly where individuals run into difficulties

SiL3114 Chip The notch in the pci connector was not wide sufficient. I tried it in two computers, a single of which had previously had a Syba SD-SATA-4P(which fit and worked fine), the Masscool card would not fit in either machine. I have under no circumstances had a card where the notch was the issue.

I had to use a hammer to get it into my EVGA 750i motherboard pci slot but as soon as it got in, it worked perfectly.Oh and it genuinely cracked me up when I read a critique saying that the driver cd was blank and it seriously was blank! Thanks Masscool for a totally free blank cd. Like every person talked about already, it won't go into pci slot quickly. You can use a sandpaper or if you are like me, just use a hammer lol. Even soon after you push it in seriously hard, you can nevertheless get it out by pulling it with two hands. Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit automatically detected and installed this raid controller for me. It does come with a driver cd but it's blank but if you have Vista OS, you don't have to worry about it lol.

Worked proper off the bat. Didn't will need to install any drivers for Windows 7. Mine came with an older BIOS version which didn't recognize my Western Digital 1TB Cavier Black challenging drive. I have this identical card from the exact same manufacturer. If you require to update the BIOS for yours, it's easier than some other individuals have instructed. Forget creating a bootable USB key. Forget about using Silicon Image's flash utility! Download the file for the new BIOS version, then in Device Manager (in Windows) look for your card and go into it's Properties. There really should be a tab for Flash or Flash BIOS. Click on Browse to come across the downloaded BIOS file, then click on the Plan button. (This is by memory from performing this process a few minutes ago.) When the green bar is complete, click OK or close and restart your computer system. You're completed and now you can use that brand new 1TB or larger drive. Effectively initially you'll have to proper-click Personal computer, goto Manage, and goto Disk Management to generate a volume on the drive and set your partitions and drive letters.

Would be great if it worked. Don't know how to get it to function. I let XP set up new hardware, now in RAID mode, I want pass via for 1.5gb drives. Can not get rid of RAID mode drivers to install integrated pass by means of drivers from cd. Instructions poor, tech help does not answer e mail.No drivers on board or chip suppliers' web sites.I will possibly give up on this board.

This card is affordable. It has worked reliably for Ӯ.5 months. Mediocre Silicon Image controller chip. Poor construction. Not SATAII. Offloads a fair amount of processing to the OS relative to other controller chips in this cost range. Took various attempts to properly flash. As previous critiques suggested, I had to make use of my files just before this card would seat. Various attempts failed when I attempted to flash its bios. It seemed like it had a mind of its own. This card was bought in a rush, and it necessary to serve a simple goal. An attempt at RAID resurrection for a client who had a disk fail while in RAID5 on a Silicon Image controller. I didn't want to spend much more than I had to, even though it did look odd obtaining this in use next to a incredibly high-priced 3ware. Currently, I use this card in a single of my test bed machines, and it functions.threeǛ mainly because I assume this piece of hardware only has possible for threeǛ eggs. If you're seriously searching for a four port SATA controller, obtain a 4 channel SAS card.

Very good cheap card.. I installed on each CentOS five and Debian Lenny linux with no troubles, it detected the hardware and loaded the correct drivers with no difficulty. I applied four barracuda 1.5 TB drives which it picked up fine (no need to have to flash the bios). I did not attempt the onboard RAID, but setup a linux md raid5 array which runs fine. The documentation is unreadable gibberish, but luckily I didn't require it. I haven't benchmarked it, but it does look a tiny sluggish on significant transfers. No real complaints although. I would advise this card for use in linux, and for the price tag I would purchase it again.

Functions with Samsung SATA optical drives after flashingto the non raid bios. Like an additional reviewer stated the 1st time I went toplug in a SATA cable in the top connector it broke appropriate off now I'm stuck with only 3 connectors. It would pricealso much to RMA it so I'll just live with only 3 connectors. I would have rated it only a 1 egg but it is nevertheless a very goodcard regardless of its connector breaking flaws

Bios interface uncomplicated to use, even even though I don't will need it. I did scan via it and it is very easily accessible if you catch it in time (after the bios loads). Could not have identified any cons so far, I have been utilizing it for three months without having any problem. Ought to admit I am not utilizing the hardware RAID, I am only employing it as a SATA controller. I have two of these in an old P4 program operating Debian 5. Debian picked it up on the install and each cards are total Ɣ HDDs per card). Once again I am only employing it as a controller card, I am utilizing mdadm and LVM for the actual RAID program and have but to come across any concerns. If you want to create a low-cost file server with linux and you have the know how or the willingness to learn, this is the excellent card for the smaller home network that you want to make bigger.

Inexpensive way to add SATA interface to my old Pc (KT7A motherboard). I require this for backups.. not each day use. Didn't assistance substantial drives out of the box. The card's BIOS would hang just ahead of the drive's size. I searched the net and discovered a bios update for the 3114 chipset at the mfgr page, and flashing this fixed the problem. Overall, worth the funds. I got a single for myself and one for a friend. Each of us are happy. Not ecstatic more than the deal, just happy with the buy.
