Exceeded my expectations
Comment:
I bought this for my wife for work. With the battery life what was advertised, I expected it to be less. It seems spot-on with the 8 plus hours of life. I like the screen because it is not as big as the 15 inch screen or as small as the 10 inch screen. The low-power consumption CPU is actually quite fast when I installed some software that I know how fast or slow it is on my desktop. THIS IS A LOW POWER CONSUMPTION CPU WHICH IS NOT LIKE A DESKTOP CPU. The only drawback is the touchpad. The sensitivity is high when typing onscreen. When you are navigating the screen, the cursor is jumpy and not smooth. Of all my laptop's, it is the worst touchpad not bad enough to drop the rating too much. My personal opinion is that they tried to make the new Windos look and feel like a Macc. If I wanted a Macc, I would have just bought a Macc.

Very light, touchpad a pain
Comment:
This is my second MSI, I also have a netbook, the only drawback to my MSI machines is the sensitivity of the touchpad, which can be turned off (F3). It takes some getting used to, especially on the netbook. You often find you have inserted text midway into your document. I strongly recommend getting a wireless mouse to use if you are doing a significant amount of word documents. Otherwise you may have to change your hand position to keep it off the touchpad area of the Keyboard. The X340 is great looking, fast enough, hooks up easily to wireless, has excellent battery life and great storage. Runs Windows 7 very well and Office 2010beta. I have streamed Netflix to it and it seems more than adequate. It's a perfect size and weighs only slightly more than the netbook but is far superior in all categories.

Exactly what we ask for when we buy
Comment:
Good laptop, that I bought for two reason: lightness and battery life, and that's what it provides. The only bad thing that I can see, is the touchpad that is not very good. The response is bad. But overall, I got what I wanted.

its a nice notebook , but the fan noise kills
Comment:
I bought this several days ago. its very nice and stylish and snappy to boot after a clean up and services tune up. The only thing that bugs me is the fan noise. its way to high for such a low voltage cpu. even doing nothing I hear it pretty good. i think it might be defective i don't know. I sent a message to technical support to see. I think i'm returning this and get something better or wait for the x350-x360.

Excellent buy
Comment:
I bought the MSI for my son, a law student, whose old laptop wore out from excessive use. He says it is great, right size, right speed, easy to use and has all the features he likes (bluetooth, etc). the only problem at the moment is that he seems to be more interested in his new toy than in his schoolwork. Can't have everything.

Love My MSI X340
Comment:
I love this notebook. The only possible issues that I have with it is the boot time with windows 7 is about 3 mins. I would prefer something faster (that could be accomplished with it being offered with a linux variant) but if I hibernate or sleep the unit it will come back on in about 30 secs. The second thing is the touchpad. It is much better when I download the driver for it from MSI's X350 download section but it does not support multigestures and it ocassionally becomes less responsive if I hold my finger on it for too long. - Other than that the unit is lightweight, great LCD and meets all of my needs.

Better than I thought it would be
Comment:
This laptop is discontinued in favor of one with duo instead of solo. You can see why, the processor is the bottleneck, however the low voltage helps with conserving battery. Although, after 5 full charge and discharge cycles, I'm not seeing anywhere near 8 hours, even with the screen on dimmest, wireless on, BT off, and very little demand on the CPU hardrive. I get 5 hours. Also note that this laptop is avail. with either a 5 or 8 cell batt. This is the 8 cell, which adds a bit of thickness weight and protudes out the bottom giving it a bit of an incline when used on a desk which actually helps and is not a hinderance at all. I've seen the smaller battery, it is flush flat with the bottom panel so it looks much thinner with the smaller battery. Having said all of that, I was expecting poorer build quality based on other reviews with keyboard flex, but not at all, very well built. It likes fingerprints, it's glossy, but a really nice unit.

Slow, but hey, Linux Ubuntu solved it
Comment:
Yes this laptop is slow, but after trying Windows 7 and Vista on it ( yes, i format all my pc's on the first day i buy them just to clean them from junk that i dont need) i tried Linux Ubuntu, and i dont even feel it as a Single Core processor. The trackpad isnt that great but the laptop is going to offer what i was looking for which is portability with 3 pounds, thin, and no need to carry a charger with me. I m giving 4 in performance cause i m running it on Ubuntu, otherwise 3.

impressed
Comment:
from freading the earlier two reviews, i also acknowledge that the touchpad can pick up even a slight unintended touch from my hand and cause frustration. So I am trying to train my other fingers (particularly the left thumb) not to hover over the touchpad. So it takes work. Regarding performance, for the kind of things I do (lots of editing in openoffice, microsoft word, and acrobat pdfs; some programming in an opensource language compiler, internet browzing but not: games, which I don't need) I cannot sense any difference between my other regular laptop with 3GB and some 2GHz cpu power. In fact I tend to feel that this computer is faster... I am giving a 5 star rating for this product primarily because of the pleasure of using a laptop this thin, runs cool, no irritating unknown background activity that keeps me wondering who else is using my computer, and the battery keeps up for a long time.

Great laptop, horrible trackpad
Comment:
Watch out, MSI switched from Synaptic to Sentelic touchpads and they are absolutely horrible.

Only support max of 2.0GB Memory
Comment:
Very light laptop for a tight budget buyers. Beware that this laptop only can support 2GB of RAM. Cannot upgrade more memory. Windows 7 runs ok, don't expect super fast performance.

MSI X340-218US Intel SU3500 2GB 320GB 13.4IN WXGA Windows 7 Premium Notebook
Cons:Kind of noisy with the fan being on constantly

Pros:Very sturdy laptop, continues to be cool for the most of the time, bright screen and decent battery life with the pre-included battery.
Comment:
Overall, this is a pretty good laptop. Very light, compared to the review model/ or prototype. You basically pay what you get for.
