Poor Quality
Comment:
Purchased this on 3.22.2009 (It is currently 1. 17.2010). I used it 30-50 times on various drives. Today I go to use it and the power supply is no more. I would not recommend this product for a tech.

Probably a good product, if it worked!
Comment:
Poorly manufactured. connections were loose on power connector. Tried it on 1 optical drive, 2 IDE drives and 1 SATA. Didn't work on any. Most likely because power was so spotty. Good idea, but not this brand.

Not a bad deal for general purpose.
Comment:
I got this to help with some system replacements. The price was cheap enough to buy two of them. It works as advertised. I was able to easily connect drives to the system and the power adapters work fine for different drive types. These are cheaply made and some care needs to be taken when attaching and removing the SATA cable to the adapter. However, it's not hard to be careful and that's a small inconvenience for the deal.

Good Value
Comment:
Like everthing I've ordered here, shipment arrived in just a few days. Cable worked just as expected with Vista PC. Had to restart computer to get a Western Digital drive recognized, but Seagate drive did not need restart. Easily rescued all the files on 2 IDE hard drives. As with any cable, plug and unplug carefully.

very nice
Comment:
First unit that was shipped had a problem with the power adapter. They sent me a replacement unit immediately. I was pleasantly surprised that it worked right out of the box with Linux, no need to find any software. With windows XP, the original unit had problems recognizing my new 320TB 2.5'' sata drive, although it did recognize my 3.5'' 200TB drive and ata drives without problems. Overall though it is a nice addition.

After reading several reviews I was not optimistic about quality. After recieving and working with 6 diferent drives I was impressed with ease of use. Power switch on power connector is not present on model I recived nor is it a plasic shell.

I purchased this to clone a hard drive for a laptop upgrade, worked with Linux,no problems. Have used is since with several other hard drives of varying types, with Ubuntu, parted magic, Win XP, no issues at all. There was no "plug and pray" I plugged the usb in, turned to get my cup of coffee and voila, my drive pops up recognized and ready to go.No witch Doctors, or command line incantations required, at least in my applications. If you do anything much with hardware, it will pay for itself very quickly.

Can't believe anyone could have a problem with this. Plug and play right out of the box worked like a champ. I've only had this for a couple months and I've recovered 6 drives - I'd say it's paid for itself!

Comment:
Ive had one of these for about six months now. works great and Ive recovered over a hundred hard drives with it. I saw another comment stating ''buyer beware'', they must have been an amateur so just ignore that. For IDE most of the time you have to take out the jumper for it to pick it up. This is a great investment.

Got this a few months ago and am very happy with it.Have used on SATA's up-to 500GB and a couple of old WD 120GB IDE's. Has activity LED in connector and an on/off switch in power cord (this is very handy!). Mine has an integrated SATA power connector, so one less thing to lose. Yes, pins can be somewhat fragile, but so are other brands.

Buyer beware: this model will not work with all IDE models, especially older ones. SATA were not yet a problem, but I could not get it going with many IDE drives from which I needed to salvage data!

All the reviews were quite accurate (except for the 1-* ones). The almost non-existant instructions were for, it would seem, another item (basically, using the SATA - eSATA connector). On-line manual was a joke. But you really don't need them - just plug it in and use it as you would expect for a USB drive (consider this a way to turn any internal hard drive into an ugly external drive). One trick - which I picked up from the comments and will repeat: sometimes, you system will find the drive but no drive letter will appear. If you search around, you'll find it considers the drive unreadable: try switching jumper from Master to System Select ! This is the kind of thing you want to have BEFORE you need badly need it!

Well this unit seems to work quite well. No problems detecting drives on XP or Vista. HOWEVER The molex power connector is terrible. As noted by other people the plastic casing of the molex adapter is not glued shut and comes off VERY easily. With some crazy glue you can fix this what you can NOT fix is the fact that it is so large it is impossible to have the power and data cables connected to a IDE drive. I had to use a molex extension cable and shave the sides off of the extension so I could use this. Good product that has some SERIOUS design flaws

Works fairly well. The part that plugs into the hard drive is mickey mouse and needed tape to hold it together. When plugging into the computer via usb it takes quite a bit of time for the computer to recognize it (like 1-2 minutes). Besides that it works and I recovered a lot of data from bad drives.

The first one I ordered, the power cord was shot. Had open power lines in my tower and after that it fired right up and worked like a champ. I had to pull and sort alot of material and had it running all day this way with no hassle. TD customer service is awesome. Set up exchange of bad one on Saturday and got new and properly functioning one on Tuesday. Have tried on numerous drives with XP and they fire right up.

Comment:
We ordered this unit and I was able to determine that a new SATA drive was bad since it was out of a case with this unit. That got replaced by the manufacturer. Then we transfered the data from a 2.5in laptop hard drive directly to that new SATA drive with both hooked up at one time. This is a sweet little tool. So far the power connector/switch has not been a problem for us, but if it becomes one, with these reviews I know what to do with it. For the price, and with no rebate to worry about this is a great buy.

This product has all the necessities to work with hard drives of different sizes, but it will not work on internal CD-Roms or DVD Players/Recorders. The power supply and IDE connector will not fit in at the same time. An alternate power adapter is required.

This unit does exactly what I need it to, which is allow me to pull data off hard drives that have operating system issues too complex to repair without reformatting. Old drives, new drives, it connects to them all. If you have XP, there is no driver needed. Documentation is sparse but you don't really need it. It's a simple device that is easy to figure out. One thing I didn't see at the beginning was the little on/off switch on the side of the power cable. Once I found it, I had to rate this a 5 star. All this and for a sweet, low price. BUY IT!

Its a very helpful product, but it does have some problems. It can't do more than one hard drive at a time. The AC adapter is kinda different though. The switch has been moved to the molex plug, so make sure that it is switched on before you use it. Lastly the molex connector is a bit flimsy and does come apart easy. Its very simple to use. I can even use it on Virtual PCs.
