Bought for quick camera SD card to PC transfer. So far, works fine with two brands of SD card. Oddly, it is picky about the USB port I use (both USB 2.0). My PC has two USB ports on the front - both working The PowerUp reader/writer only works on the bottom one while the camera cable works on both USB ports. Just tried it again - same result.

The first one I was sent was DOA. The second one works intermittently on several PCs. Spend a few bucks more and get a reliable card reader.

Ditto on Big Mike's review. If all OS updates have been done properly AND using the right media (I have a Kingston 1g SD), the installation would be a breeze. Very please with the performance, quality and usability on this little device so far (no crash). Just got it out from box and tested on 2 different XpSp2 machines with latest software updates. Using a normal user account (one without admin rights), the first PC was installed ok (no software required) but prompt for reboot and after reboot everything works fine, including running .avi (mpeg4 compressed) files right from the usb key. The second PC has usb 1.1 ports only & it was installed fine & was ready to use within seconds without rebooting. Copying files from the usb key to and from the PC is fast (110mb at about 10 seconds) except in the case of copying from usb 1.1 port (which is a given). I didn't try using the miniSD card yet. If it accept miniSD card without an adapter, that would be another bonus.

Plastic piece of garbage - totally useless. Will not read from USB 1.0 and did not read on 4 machines on USB 2.0 - the machine it worked on only about 200 mb was copied from a SD card and then it made the whole system crash. Cheap made - cheap looking - donate your money instead.

BOUGHT ONE OF THESE FOR MY CAMERA'S SD PICTURES. WORKED GREAT! I HAVE USED 6 OTHER TYPES OF CARDREADERS, BUT THIS ONE WORKED FROM START ON MY WINXP AND WIN2K MACHINES. WILL NOT WORK ON WIN98 IF YOU STILL HAVE ONE.

I have bought many of these for friends and family as they make great gifts - and this one from Power-up is no exception. The problem is in knowing how to use these little babys -- use them to easily d/l SD card info from GPS, cameras, electronic picture frames, etc., or even use them as a USB storage device. With the correct OS updates, this should be immediately recognized on 1.1 or 2.0 USB ports. No problems here!

Does not work on USB 1.1 hubs. Did not work on 2 of the 3 computers I tried this on. Times out and gives errors. Spend your money on something else. Worst I have ever had.

Don’t purchase this item. As per the review above, there seems to some problems with this device. I ordered mine with another device, which works fine. It is going to cost me about as much to send and insure the device as the device is worth. I have decided to take the loss, but wanted to caution others about choosing this model.

I ordered three of these to give them a try, along with other USB card readers. The other card readers all worked perfectly right out of the box. This PowerUp reader caused me to have to PowerDown - with ALL three readers. These will be sent back to Tiger. The error reported on all three was I/O Hardware Reading Error on Windows XP SP2

I was impressed with the size and price. When I went to use it on my Lenovo T60p, Windows XP said it found new hardware and was configuring it for use. It did that for more than 5 minutes, and Windows froze up. Upon reboot, it worked perfectly.

Great value. Works perfectly, though if your USB port is deep in the case it may be too wide for it. Has a keyring hole in one of the covers, but it doesn't look strongly enough reinforced, and the cover detaches a little too easily for safety.

Great little reader that works fast and easy on both XP and my very old Windows 98 machine. The reader stays in my camera case to enable me to quickly download the SD card to the PC.. saves on the camera batteries while I transfer the photos AND is small enough and self contained so that it doesn't take up any space. no cables, no fuss, no muss. A must have for anyone who wants to quickly move media.

I have a bunch of SD cards for my PDA, digital camera, camcorder, etc. I can now get to them easily with this tiny card reader. No setup required on Windows XP; it worked right out of the box. Great product!

I purchased this to move music to my mp3 player from my computer, and besides the fact that it is a little wide, I have had no real problems.

I just got this for my wife to use on her older Dell laptop. Initially it didn't work. The L.E.D. would light, but nothing happened with my Multimedia and SD cards for my camera. I found a M-F USB extension that I had but never used, and connected it up to my computer. Immediately it came up to be installed as a portable media device by XP. Plugged it into the laptop, same thing. The problem, as it turned out, was that the card reader's case was too wide to fit the laptop's single rear USB port all the way in. The display hinge blocked it. Otherwise, it works great. My wife loves it, and says she thinks it's really fast. If weren't for the plug in problem and the case being a little flimsy, I'd have given it five stars. A very good value for the price.
