Purchased this NAS for my Windows 7 gigabit property network. Information backup and for media streaming utilizing the Patiot Household Box Workplace with UPnP. Up and running in 5 minutes. Runs quiet and cool. Included software program is good and interface uncomplicated to use immediately after latest firmware update. Cost can't be beat for below 跌. As often New Egg Rocks!!! None Comes preconfigured as RAID-1 mirror.

Size Drops connections, Have to remap the drive whenever you reboot windows, Horrid tech support, Porrly written drivers and not significantly support from Seagate to enhance tthem. Unless you're just searching for a back-up drive (in which case there are numerous more affordable possibilities obtainable) then this migh be ok for you. Nonetheless, if you want to serve DLNA enabled devices forget it. It don't function! And no amount of tech support will get it to work. It's not picked up by the rest of your network since the discovery software is useless. Every time windows boots up it asks to install the drivers but but it can't find any. Check the Seagate NAS forums ahead of you make a decision to purchase this...far too a lot of problems with quite couple of solutions. Speed: in RAID 1 (two hardrives mirroring exact same information) over a gigabit connection I could download at 40 megabytes/per second. This lets me stream 1080p high def content with no hesitation.The power consumption + noise: I figured I would hide this somewhere to prevent hearing it, but its so quiet that I maintain it on top of my desk so I can see it. It's visually appealing to look at. Also, the Total Price of Ownership (TCO) is really low. When reading/writing from the drive, it uses about 18 watts, which at $.10/kWh is about ภ annually if it is running 24ǝ. It has an auto sleep mode which makes the TCO even lower. Compare this to a PC file server which can price a few hundred dollars in electricity. To some people this may possibly be a con, but the interface could be a bit too simplistic. For example, there is a built in FTP server that makes it possible for you to set up users and permissions, but I can't find a way to see if anybody is at present logged in. All in all I'm quite pleased with this. The 2 TB unit has two one-terabyte drives and gives you the capability to choose whether you want much more space (RAID ) or much more reliability (RAID 1). I opted for greater reliability.
