Bought 2 of these drives to setup into a RAID0 as an upgrade to my previous RAID. Must have gotten the revised versions as these ones are pretty much soundless compared to the 500GB drives I have bought before. Would definitely recommend |

This hard drive is sort of like a time portal to the mid to late 90s. I mean this hard drive is ridiculously loud when it's reading and writing. I mean this isn't even an exaggeration but my 1987 Macintosh SE with a 20MB HD sounds just slightly louder than this thing. It's ridiculous. There is another review that equates it to a coffee pot peculating and that's sadly pretty accurate for my copy. When it's loading a game it's absolutely the loudest thing in the room, much louder than even my 3 fairly loud Phantom 410 fans at full RPM. I can even hear it over my fairly loud mechanical keyboard typing. I'm not a silent PC aficionado by any means but this is just ridiculous. If noise level is even the slightest concern, don't buy this. To make a bad matter worse, WD has disabled AAM on newer drives meaning you can't even tune the speed down a bit to gain some sanity.I now have to consider RMAing it and losing about $25 in shipping and restocking fees (nearly 30% the items value..) or just dealing with the noise somehow, probably going to RMA it. |

Have them in RAID 1 but I'd almost feel comfortable without the redundancy.5 year warranties used to be the standard, and I wish they still were, since it's hard to find a drive that will last the majority of their warranted period. This is just an ordinary drive optimized for performance and OS drive storage. I got an SSD so it doesn't really matter but quicker response times. It is more expensive than the Seagate 1tb barracuda drive but for about 20-25 dollars more you get significantly better reliability and performance (statistics) and a 5 year warranty instead of seagates 2 year warranty. |

Basically I bought this as a new everything use drive on my desktop after my just over 3 year old drive from another manufacturer failed on me. Speed seems comparable to my old 7200rpm drive. You do pay a premium for this drive over comparable drives from other companies, however, given they mostly carry a 1 year warranty to this ones 5 year warranty, I decided to give it a go. So far its good to go with no jumpers on my SATA II motherboard. |

Operates like ole' faithful. Low cost. Get a lower cost for larger space but slower speed. I still don't know why HD's are running at 7200 RPM. This HD scores a flat out 5.9 on Windows Expertise. the next highest on my method was 7.three, my processor. I'm definately going to make this a junker storage and move to SSHD for the OS and games. |

Drive died on me after 4 years 5 months. Wasn't looking forward to replace this drive, so the 5 year warranty pretty much saved me from the hassle. WD is sending me a replacement via RMA, can't really complain about that. But the 5 year warranty is pretty much the selling point for these drives. |
Cheap. and good to hold vids and music(capturing video gameplay). At least that's what im doing. SSD for boot, and i have 2 1TB WD Black hard drives.
