Western Digital WDTV Live Streaming Media Player WiFi FULL-HD 1080p DLNA
Cons:Gets a little hot Menus are slower Has occasional hiccups (nothing a reset won`t fix)

Pros:Great price Plays subtitles Handles almost every format out there
Comment:
Wonderful unitIncredibly easy to set and has played every format I threw at it. Streams 720p (Wired and WiFi) flawlessly, but for 1080p you may want to hook up an external HD. Would say this is a much better buy than the WD Live Hub. For relatively the same price you can add in a 2TB external and have the faster Sigma 8670 700Mhz chipset.

Cons:Freezes periodically as well as slow menu browsing.

Pros:Able to play all content from connected hard drives as well as shared folders from Windows 7.
Comment:
This is a good unit and worth the money. The slow menus can be a pain, but if you unplug it, everything works well again once it boots up.

Cons:The remote control is very slow in response. Other than that its a excellent media play. I suggest use your smart phone as a remote instead of the original

Pros:Its good on playing blue ray mkv and any extensions under the sun.Constantly updates which is a plus.
Comment:
Overal great media player, If you have asus or other brands, this is should be on top of your list. I live in a apartment so this is good for me, unless you live in a household with more people i suggest you look for a WD internet media router.

Western Digital WDTV Live Streaming Media Player WiFi FULL-HD 1080p DLNA
Cons:- Youtube application repeatedly tells me videos are not available- I can't get it to connect to my network drives at all- Interface and navigation with remote is extremely tedious, slow and cumbersome

Pros:- Plays all kinds of video and audio files- Nice looking interfaces- Easy to use
Comment:
I like this device, if only for the fact that I can plug in any USB drive and have it play any of my music or video files. But it has many downsides making it not seem worth $100...I tried out the Youtube app, and it's extremely rare for a video to actually work. Most of the time it tells me that the video is not available.I also tried to connect to my desktop computer's network drives. I'm not sure what the issue is, but it simply will not work. I've tried everything for this.As for the UI, it definitely looks nice and is very pleasant to simply look at. But its slow. Incredibly slow...and the fact that the remote buttons need to be pressed ALL the way down before anything is registered, really slows it down even more making the whole experience pretty lackluster. The upside to this: throw any +10Gb .mkv files at it, and it will not stutter even once. It definitely does what I had intended to do with it without issue. I just really wish all the little extras would have worked as nicely too.

Cons:- Interface is a little slow when you update  to the latest firmware

Pros:- Smooth- Wifi
Comment:
This is a great little video streaming box. I upgraded from last years model and this one is a huge upgrade. Before it would take 30+ seconds for the box to boot, this one takes less than 10 seconds.

Cons:Small and I have to bring it forward on the shelf to control with the remote. I would prefer a few more USB's for different storage media.

Pros:Simple and effective. Best device I have used. Updates live. Handles large 2TB drives with no delay after initial index.
Comment:
This is my 5th Media player. I had an ealier, simpler WD media box but this one has everything I need. Plugged it in, indexed my drive, ran an update, looked up AVI, MP4, etc., content info and it automaticcly adds it to the file image.

Cons:Slow Menu

Pros:Small1080PReads files from NASHDMI, Composite and Optical OutNetflix, Pandora and Hulu Plus Support when using US VPN service
Comment:
Overall I am generally happy. I needed a device which had composite in so that I could hook it up to our van to play videos for the kids when travelling as well as portable dvd players for our camper that only have composite in. I also wanted something that had optical out to hook it up to our non-hdmi living room receiver. Netflix was also a must. This was the only player I could find that had all those capabilities and for that its great. The only downside is I find the navigation to be a tad slow compared to my XBMC based HTPC.

Cons:comes with a composite video cable....

Pros:easy to setup, great value, slick interface
Comment:
I bought this unit to stream media from a dlink dns-320 nas, which worked without any problems at all. The Netflix service is also an excellent value. The kids love it!Setup is really easy, and it is easy for the kids to use. Makes cable tv a thing of the past now.Don't forget to order an HDMI cable as this unit doesn't come with one.

Cons:None really.

Pros:Played all the video files I threw at it. Netflix and other websites are very easy to access. Very easy to learn how to use it.
Comment:
I bought this for a friend as he didn't want the HTPC I've setup for him. He is really bad with computers, but he was able to figure how this thing works very fast. I have connected it to the home file storage and it works like charm. So does the Netflix. Have also used an USB key to put some movies on (while I was setting up the network file storage) and it worked just fine. The only thing he wishes it had is a built-in DVD or blu-ray drive.

Cons:Occasionally needs a hard reset

Pros:Cheap, small, does the job
Comment:
Originally bought this for Netflix. Then found out that it could stream from my network (I use wired, not wireless) just about any video file I throw at it - mpg, mkv, avi, mp4. (and, fwiw, those mpg's are mythtv transport stream recordings).Only real negative is that occasionally it needs a hard reset.Despite the negative, would definitely recommend (I even bought a 2nd one for the basement).

Pros:Streams movies perfectly over wireless network.
Comment:
Great unit. UI is easy to navigate. Took 10 minutes to setup and start watching a movie, streamed from my HTPC in the basement. Wireless N was sufficient to stream to the upstairs TV. Would recommend to anyone over using a PS3 or Xbox to stream media. Works with Logitech harmony remote.

Comment:
I already had an older model of WDTV Live and I needed another for my bedroom, so far it worked flawlessly and it read everything I throw at it. I also like that this model have integrated WiFi, older model need an USB WiFi. The user interface is different then older model and is very nice and still easy to use. I would recommend this.

Cons:Interface response is a little sluggish.

Pros:Plays everything I throw at it.
Comment:
Overall very happy with this unit. WRT hacking it like the older WD TV's, don't buy this if that is your purpose. Other than the sluggish response time for the remote control and less than great feedback from the iphone app, this little box does it all. I used to stream with PS3 Media Server, but this is so much more efficient.

This device works great even over wi-fi when it works. However, if it doesn't, it's a pain to troubleshoot and Western Digital's support is not the best.

Cons:can't stream ripped DVD's and BD's over network without stuttering. More of a network (Windows Shares)issue with Win 7 then the box having a problem.

Pros:Easy to setup, Plays everything I throw at it
Comment:
I attached a USB drive to the box and everything plays perfectly. I'm happy with the WD's performance. Meta data for music is not very complete. Well, actually it's not very good at all. For movies it is much much better. Many people are having issues streaming from a Windows PC. Network is too slow. This may be a WD issue since many have had no issues with the previous version of the Media Streamer but are having problems with the new model.

Great product. Beats the Patriot Box Office I had previously hands down. Picture quality is slightly better with the WDTV and the user interface is hands down better than the PBO.

Just got it today to replace my Oplay. What an upgrade it is. The only issue I see is why they didn't put USB 3.0 into this unit, I would have paid $20 more for the feature (but wasn't a deal breaker). The interface is very nice and very easy to use.

Cons:Odd feeling remote

Pros:Very small footprintAble to turn front lights offBuilt in WiFi
Comment:
This media play from WD is much improved from their last version which oddly has the exact same name. The firmware updates have been coming through regularly and they actually do offer improved functionality every time and do not seem to cause any issues with older features. Netflix works for Canada, well they do today, Netflix seems to be constantly changing....The remote has a weird feel to it...the weighting is all off for some reason. Some navigation is weird too, but the remote does off some customization features. I recommend this to anybody. Make sure you get this version and not the older one though - as I mentioned they have the same name.

Cons:None for this price

Pros:Improved UI, response over older versions, added scraping, plays any format
Comment:
I've owned previous generations and the UI is much improved on this one in terms of asthetics and response. The scraping ability is a great new feature. I was able to scrape ~1,500 movies off my unRAID server in a couple of minutes, running LAN, plays lossless m2ts streams fine. Haven't tried the wireless yet. Sure, it's not XBMC but for $100 (PMed), it's tough to beat.

Cons:Media library building is slow..

Pros:Streams Canadian Netflix in HD!Supports many video and audio formatsFairly fast, simple interface
Comment:
This is my first dedicated media player and so far it's been great. This is one of the few devices that can stream Netflix content in Canada. Movies play without a hitch in 1080p.One concern is that the device (thus far) does not manage to build a media library from a 750gb external hard drive filled with movies and music connected via USB. I imagine that it cannot cope with the large number of files, so I had to turn off the media library setting.

Comment:
Great unit all in all.Would recommend this unit to everyone whom needs a media nexus and does not want to deploy & admin a full blown HTPC.The only thing preventing a full 5/5 rating is the FW issue described in the "Cons" (no Netflix).I expect this will become a non-issue with subsequent FW releases.
