ZOTAC GeForce 8400 GS ZT-84MEG5M-HSL Video Card
Comment:
It can display video on a monitor. Supports HD resolutions. Low voltage. Whee. This is a low-power card, with incredibly little 3-D support. The only use for this card is for HTPCs. It has an HDMI out port, which would be nice IF you could readily get audio more than the HDMI connection. Due to the fact this card does not have onboard audio, you require to connect a cable between this card and your motherboard. Sadly this card does not come with that cable. And the interface is not normal. I would have been perfectly pleased with this card if it came with the cable necessary for HDMI audio pass via. Without that cable, it's not even worth it. |

Inexpensive card that works, low energy comsumption and has HDMI out which is what I was searching for. No difficulties following two months. No audio on HDMI. The rebate was a huge factor for me ordering this card but it has verified to be non exsistant. Send it in but have in no way received confirmation and a request thru the website didn't function either. For the price I need to have gone with the newer card that has audio on the HDMI output. With Windows 7 64 bit I am acquiring pretty good video playback thru the DVI on a 20 inch flat screen LCD. |

Comment:
Inexpensive (if the rebate ever comes), works in multi monitor mode as long as you don't do hdcp on multiple digital monitors. Rebate is a joke. Soon after two months I emailed them only to obtain a response that my rebate went from awaiting approval to approved. Seems like an additional catch prior to they send out the cash. HDCP ready is also a joke if you have multiple digital monitors. I have verified that directtvtopc does not function in multi monitor mode even although every thing is supposedly HDCP ready. Switched the card with a various card and it all works fine. Wouldn't purchase once again with the rebate issues and the non-hdcp for multiple digital monitors. Manufacturer Response:For inquiries relating to rebates, please email rebate@zotacusa.com or submit a Support Ticket. Please note, rebates typically takes 10-14 weeks to procedure (as stated on the rebate form).External Link(s): Support Ticket Submission| |

Audio does work: attach the SPDIF cable and run an HDMI cord to your television, works fine.Works wonderful for a media server. Rebates are rebates. They generally take forever, you ought to by no means anticipate them to arrive in much less than 10 weeks unless they give a digital rebate to your bank or credit card. |

Card and driver works nicely. Native HDMI, DVI and VGA ports. Low Profile ready. Passive cooling.Drastically outperforms on-board Intel GMA 3150 video. 1920x1200 display is crisp and smooth compared to onboard video. X64 drivers loaded right away for Windows Server 2008. Vista Aero desktop with transparency works good (manual setup for Win 2008 required). Winsat reports 29.5 frames per second with my Atom based mobo working with a PCIe-X4 slot!. (again, far more manual setup required to get that to function on Server 2008.Obtainable rebate brought the final expense of this card to much less than บ.Mini ITX server case has small ventilation, none for the video card, but I've experienced no heat related difficulties due to the passive cooling on-board in 18-24 hour per day usage Care have to be taken when swapping to the low profile bracket, as the screws holding it on are really weak. Over tightening outcomes in broken retention stud for DVI port. All of the installation problems sited above are due to a lack of native support in Windows Server 2008 for the Aero Desktop and the User Experience Index, and not with the video card or drivers. Those worked flawlessly out of the box.
