Cons: Long card (may potentially cover existing ports on montherboard depending on slot placement)

Pros: Port Density, Price, Lack of Raid, Comes with Cables, Works with WHS
Comment:
It's a rare occurrence when a hardware failure coincides with a new product release. After a failure of a port multiplier late last week in my WHS, I had been hunting for a suitable replacement and happened upon this gem. As I use Windows Home Server, I do not need RAID of any kind, but typically the only cards available with a high port density (other than the Supermicro cards) are well over $1,000.Supermicro recently released a PCI-E version of their 8-port SATA card, but as it does not come with minisas -> sata cables, the price/port was very similar to this card. I'm a huge believer in minimalism: the less stuff you have to get the job done, the less stuff you have to go wrong. This tipped the scales in favour of this card. After 2 days of constant transfers, this card has proved that it is both fast and stable. The only issue I have with it is the placement of the inboard ports as the supplied cables run into the outboard ports and take some finessing to get in. This would quite possibly be impossible to accomplish while the card is on the motherboard. Again, only an issue if someone is starting off with a few drives and growing into the card.I don’t have any performance figures as this card was replacing a failed bit of hardware, though I do know that it is sustaining 90MB/s across a gigabit LAN (connected to Seagate 7200.11 1.5GB’s) which isn’t too shabby at all.
