Eight hot-swap drive bays, plus two fixed five.25" full-high bays, *and* a fixed three.5" bay for floppy or boot drive. Strong construct. Rapid-swap fans are good design and style. Lots and lots of fans. Good rail kit. What's not to really like? Not rather certain what mobo they had in mind. Even their own mobo's don't have headers to handle/monitor six fans. I assume a single of the Tyans would function, but even that may possibly have been a single fan brief. The low-end ASUS LGA 775 server board I put in there absolutely didn't have sufficient (one rear, three front, one particular CPU).Wasn't clear that a non-SuperMicro mobo needed the cable to the front panel to be swapped out (which is one thing of a discomfort in and of itself). I put down all the break-out header connectors in spot only to learn that the break-out ribbon connector doesn't mate with the ribbon cable coming from the front panel. The other two SuperMicro rack-mounts I've purchased don't perform that way, so that was an unpleasant surprise. Made it operate in the finish with no added cost. Ended up obtaining a fan controller/heat-monitor and mounting in a single of the 5.25" bays. So one particular front fan and a single rear fan are on manual handle. But was handy in that I was also in a position to wire up control of jury-rigged fan on the Adaptec 5805 heat-sink. I also monitor the temp of the Adaptec chip, the case in basic, the CPU (best I can offered the heat-sink considerably distorts the reading), plus the 4-port Intel NIC. So overall I'm glad I have the controller. The 5805 in certain is known to run hot, and I can see the (large) effect of the fan. Just wish I wasn't forced to obtain it just so I could use all the fans that come in the case.

I've built six servers using this case and its predecessor (CSE-832T) and they’re good situations. I’m the Network Administrator at an upstate NY college and we construct a lot of our own servers (very limited budget) and I’ve employed many 2U – 4U situations over the years. This is one particular of the easiest to perform in that we have applied, the hot swap fans can be replaced with any regular 80 mm model, everything is easily accessible, fantastic airflow, eight removable trays and it comes with heavy duty rails. We’ve constructed servers ranging from a single CPU Xeon to 2x dual core Opteron based systems and have had no difficulties with any of them. We use these for ESXi servers and they work wonderfully and we won’t be working with any other servers as lengthy as these are readily available in this cost variety. The 650 watt PS has enough juice to energy a 2x Opteron 2216 program with 16 GB RAM and 7 HDs ƕx 640GB RAID5 + 2x 500GB single drives). Yes, the energy provide cables are quick. Obtain extensions for one more handful of $$ and you won’t have any problems. Order a longer floppy cable as properly if you program on employing the floppy drive. The power supply in reality has each 8 pin and 4 pin auxiliary energy. The front panel cables can be swapped out quickly by removing 1 screw and popping out the whole front panel assembly. We’ve utilised Supermicro, Tyan and Intel boards in these situations devoid of issue. We tried quite a few distinct cases just before obtaining the Supermicro CSE-83xT line and we won’t be switching as lengthy as these are nonetheless readily available. Constructing servers isn’t for the timid or for these with sensitive ears. These circumstances are as loud as I have ever heard but they are also the coolest running.

8 Hot-swap drive trays, comes with rails, usually decent excellent constructionI was able to get an SNT three-in-2 hot swap cage into the five.25" bays extremely effortlessly without any clearance problems(I used the 8 hot swap drives for information, this hot swap drive for RAID1'd technique drives) Cables could be a small longer-- I got almost everything to attain, but they have been somewhat tight, as a lot of builds are, in my expertise.Energy supply needs additional connectors-- SATA and Molex. I had to use Y cables to get anything hooked up.Rails will only mount in 4-post racks 28" or bigger(up to 30-one thing inches)-- which meant I couldn't use them for my Skeletek rack which is 25". Possibly my Skeletek rack just doesn't comply to standards, but I was a bit disappointed...Fans are Really loud. As other individuals have talked about, even hooking them up to the motherboard and setting 'silent' in BIOS, they are nevertheless about 90% of the sound at complete speed-- they do move a LOT of air, nonetheless.

Solid case. Quite excellent air flow. Take any common server mb. Noisy with Supermicro MB. ***Please study the Supermicro's warranty meticulously. They warranty products from the date they are sold from their warehouse to the distributor. They only do cross ship for the initially yr. Right after the very first 12 months you have to ship the product back to them to get it repaired. If your product sat in the vendors warehouse for 6 months you loose that six months from your warranty, particularly 6 months of cross ship. This is unacceptable in my mind for a corporation that sells server class merchandise to not present the finish user a complete warranty from date of obtain. I bought a case and when I attempted to warranty it identified it was 13 months old ahead of I each and every purchased and Supermicro wanted me to send a brand new case back to them to have it repaired. Other firms are substantially more client oriented about their returns, Intel and Asus are each with regards to server items.

fantastic chassis wit outstanding air flow; the rails are wonderful; i wish they would all work like the ones included with this case; psu have been reputable so far You will will need to do a little household function on the compatibility arena, but it will be worth your time. I wanted to clarify from earlier posters. The PSU does have a 8 pin and yes it is too brief, but an extender cable can be located on newegg. I have built about 20 servers with this chassis and had problems. Just make certain you get the 8 pin extender cable.

Solid construction. Ample and nicely implemented snap removable chassis fans. Effectively packaged for shipping. Rails integrated. Semi-customizable CPU air guide. Acceptable high quality Hot Swap bays. 650W Energy Provide. Simple drive bay access. Really serious air flow. General a decent rack, but ... Short ATX power connectors. Do your homework, and buy your extensions. Fans are loud, and most run at ~ 5K RPM's off of the onboard headers, or HS backplane fan connectors. Proprietary ribbon connector for front panel headers. Typical front panel cable came with NO adapter to meet the ribbon connector (as DID the lower end Super Micro models). I created an adapter, but if it turns out that I could have just removed the entire energy assembly, and replaced the ribbon cable (as somebody here stated), I really feel pretty sheepish. I was going to do just that, but the preceding non HS bay models from Super Micro HAD the adapter cable included, so I assumed it was their mistake. If NOT, ANY documentation may have been handy to point that out to assemblers. As a 20+ year seasoned method builder, the truth that I produced the adapter cable must point out the brief comings of NO documentation. Had I been in a position to replace the cable, it still would have been a tight length on my Intel MB. Generally speaking, I am essentially impressed with the build high quality at these kind of prices. I've used a number of of their non-HS bay models, which are in fact inexpensive for what you get right here. SATA connectors would be Great (as it has NONE), and longer ATX energy cables. Not a deal breaker although, just prepare, and you'll nonetheless be impressed with the finish item.

Solid Items Identified problem with cables. We have several Supermicro systems and I had to speak to the MFG who sent me new power & IDE cables because they wouldn't reach. You'd consider they'd fix something so obvious.

I purchased this with a SUPERMICRO MBD-X8SIL-F-O (which is matx form factor) and only had one concern with the cabling. The 92MM fan subsequent to the energy provide is about 1inch also short - which was a bummer. The 24pin cable is just barely extended sufficient, but it all operates. Excellent cooling, and unlike what everyone else seems to say, with my board, setup with 4pin PWM supported fan headers, this thing is not obnoxious at all. I have this running at home, in my basement, and it's hardly any louder than my 1 semi aggressive 120mm I had in my last situation. Even even though power efficiency wasn't my 1st concern, this issue turned out becoming really effective. With a 3430 quad core, six drives, this machine utilizes just below 100watts idle in windows, working with a killawatt meter. This was missing a single standoff threaded screw spot for my board. This was a large time bummer, as it was the corner by the SATA ports. I place a rubber spacer in its spot, and it appears ok, luckily I won't be performing substantially perform on this. The drive bay trays are a bit cheesier than what I would have expected for the real dollars this situation charges, but haven't had any difficulties. Considering that I used a SuperMicro motherboard, I had extremely few issues with wiring, the front panel is slick when you have the appropriate stuff, as you just plug it in, and everything is completed! The fan controller on the board is great, as you can adjust to have it start as low as 30% fan speed, and even that low, this thing offers very excellent cooling energy to all the drives and cpu with passive heatsink. It will automobile adjust based on temp, as the new Intel CPUs will ramp fans up from low -> medium -> high based on internal temp.

Solid construction and latches, I'm seriously happy I went with Supermicro. There's plenty of expandability with the slim, 3.5, and 5.24 inch bays. The drive bays all have quick release tabs that make installing each the hot swap and fixed drives a breeze. The hot swappable fans can be speedily removed if a single stops operating and the air flow shroud actually completes this case as a high finish server chassis. Didn't come with any documentation at all and the online version is barely useful. PSU only has 1 eight pin EPS power plug, I had to get a P4 to EPS12V adapter to power my DP rig. A strip of labels numbered -15 which every single fit into an indent for labeling is a truly good finishing touch.

superb fan placement and airflow, plenty of access to motherboard location from front drive location power provide rails are too brief for practically all motherboards, even supermicro server boards. panel led and button connector almost impossibly to switch out do not use any other motherboards in this case other than super micro, their front panel led and buttons are so tough to reach you cant even switch out their proprietary cable for the (included!) seperated wires. The power provide does not have a 8 pin rail, and the 4 pin is so short, it barely reaches the edge of the motherboard, let alone near the CPU where the fourǞ pin connector normally resides. If i was nonetheless in the refund window I would return this product immediately, but I waited too long to start off the project.

Sturdy, well-built server case. Good rails Employing an Intel Server motherboard and virtually all the cables from the case to the motherboard are too short. Ended up getting numerous extension cables for power supply, fans, front panel. Fans are LOUD...Incredibly LOUD. Even appropriate settings in Intel bios and in Intel Deployment Application could not quit the fans from running full speed. Lack of documentation.

Superior cost, appears to be a well built item. SATA hot-plug support. Overall worth it. Not everything you require comes in the box. Nearly just about every connector in the case is too short on it's own and you need to plan accordingly. In addition to the 8 pin power extension you'll also will need a 16-pin method control cable converter if you're not utilizing one of their motherboards. This is sold as component number CBL-0084L but I couldn't discover it anyplace on NewEgg. You'll also need to have some fan extensions. There are 6 fans - 3 can be plugged into the SATA controller but you'll likely need to have one thing longer to hook the rest up to a motherboard. If your MB doesn't have 3 fan connectors you may possibly also want a fan to power adapter converter cable.Depending on what your motherboard looks like you may possibly also have issues with the pieces of plastic developed to route airflow, though the case will still work with out them.
