I did a lot of research before taking the NAS plunge for a home network storage device. Almost every review of the Synology line was positive and I'm very happy with my purchase, paired it with 2 x 3TB drives in Raid 1, setup was a snap, the software asked me how I wanted it configured, a few clicks and voila!I use the Android app to stream and download to both my phone and tablet, works like a dream! Can't even here it running, supper quiet!

Cons: Time required to build volumes

Pros: web interface is awesome, stable, quick uploads/downloads, USB connection recognize many different devices
Comment:
I've messed with Buffalo NAS, FreeNAS, Windows-based file servers and they all didn't provide the stability and user friendly environment that the Synology DiskStation OS provided.I wanted to see how long it would take to build a volume with a single 2 TB WD Red drive. It took me about 4 hours to finish building and allow me to start uploading. The file manager is easy and familiar for anyone who's used FTP applications like Filezilla or WS-FTP.You can login from multiple locations simultaneously and the NAS will keep a log of all connections. The ability to download and install apps makes the experience easy when you need additional functionality (media server, ftp, dns etc). However, I would like to see HTTPS enabled by default as user credentials to access the NAS could be intercepted via Wireshark in cleartext.I combined this with my Netgear WNDR3700 flawlessly.Averaging 15 - 33 MBps.

Cons: Does not feature USB3.0; setup of system for less technical people could be problematic.

Pros: Price vs other boxes; sleek look, quiet operation; bundle of apps to use; ease of setup; great price i NCIX
Comment:
Decided to take the plunge and invest in a home NAS and though I've never even heard of Synology until doing my research, reviews were overall positive.I paired it with 2x2TB WD Red NAS drives and so far the experience has been excellent. Operation is quiet and drives stay cool even with the fan on low. I was very impressed by the amount of utilities and apps that are readily available once logged into the console. I was a little underwhelmed with the 10/100 performance over ethernet but was planning on upgrading my router now to support faster transfer rates anyway. I especially love the remote management and access so that I can watch videos, access files etc from over the internet at any time using DDNS.. fantastic!NCIX is the best obviously as this unit went on special a week after I purchased my unit online and they were able to credit me the difference.. love you guys!!As far as a home nas enclosure though, I doubt you can ask for more for a sub-$200 box.. if you're looking for a quick setup and easy at home NAS and only need two drive raid, there is no better option out there (except maybe the newer version that is now out)

Pros: Does what it says and does it well
Comment:
I purchased this NAS about one year ago. It has worked flawlessly ever since. I use it as media server. I have two WD 1 TB drives in a RAID 1 configuration. It's now time for an upgrade and I have my eyes on the 213+! The best thing about the Synology products is the OS. It functions very well and Synology continuously updates the OS by adding features and apps. Great product and highly recommended.

Cons: None really.

Pros: Does what it says it will do.
Comment:
Behaves like it says. Price matched it to $200 and at that price a good deal - I no longer have to keep a whole machine running 24/7. Performance seems pretty good. The P2P service could be a bit more flexible - you don't get a lot of configuration options compared to PC based clients - but works fine. People said to get this rather than one of the cheaper NAS devices and I agree - good product. One thing - watch out for which sub-version you get there are 2 or 3 versions of the 212 with significantly different features.

This NAS is fantastic. Serves up media to my PS3 and my mediagate flawlessly. The remote access works well. I have 2x2tb drives in it without raid of any kind. The tech support is quick to respond. All in all a great addition to my network!

Comment:
i did read lots of review and research before i ordered this synology nas, pretty small and light weight and white color looks pretty.you need to open the case to insert  the hhd, i do not think the hard ware designs cost much, its all about OS.lots functions, especially for download station in os, good website, guide and manual. still playing and having fun with the os.uses less power and runs stable. so far so good for me.
