Simple style. Unit comes in two pieces (top/bottom halves) and consists of a USB cable for data and additional energy (if necessary (for R/W, and so on.)). Nice black rubberized coating. No problems reading making use of CD/DVD drive for normal reads and booting to a number of systems (HP, IBM, different white box). Can be a small finicky on match. Occasionally the drive tray either doesn't pop out easily, or doesn't latch closed without a little extra push. Most likely takes place 30%-40% of the time and is connected to how tight the two screws are secured. Purchased this as a test enclosure for our business. Appears to perform fantastic for our desires; will be ordering 20+ more.

usb powered, no additional energy cables needed. Tiny, lightweight, and pretty sturdy, for plastic. none. Bought this at Newegg a couple months ago. I installed a DVD+- RW and have burned several, a lot of disk and not 1 coaster. For the price, its a Really Wonderful little unit. Take your time putting it with each other, if the little screws are a touch to long back them out a thread or two. I'm a 66 year old Senior Citizen, and if I can put one particular these together , any individual can.

Low cost, light weight, and so on. Some main design and style flaws, see below. If you're obtaining problems Read THIS Cautiously.Immediately after about six months of sitting on this, I finally got around to genuinely making use of it. I had equivalent issues as an individual else, not reading it correctly, and so on. I discovered out why even though. On the connection strip, there's three solder points that stick genuinely far out. Far sufficient that I noticed were making get in touch with with my DVD burner. This was the supply of my dilemma. Straightforward resolution, I placed some adhesive label paper for printing out shipping labels onto the back side of my burner. Difficulty's been solved, so far. A greater answer, nevertheless I don't have access to, would be to basically sand down (either with paper or a Dremel Tool, etc) the protruding prongs. I truly hope this helps some of ya'll out there!

Operates Some mechanical tweaking required (as the other reviewers say) I had some of the very same mechanical difficulties as the two prior postersɅ) My notebook dvd drive came with a metal piece that attaches it to the rest of the notebook, which I forgot to eliminate at initiallytwo) Overtightened screws prevents ejectionthree) On the plastic cover, I had to cut off one particular of the plastic knobs because it wouldn't fit into the drivefour) The plastic halves of the case come apart, which is definitely a fantastic factor when troubleshooting the above fit concerns. I ended up popping apart the case, hooking up the electronic parts, and put the case back collectivelyBut other than that, performs excellent! Comes with an optional second USB energy supply that I haven't required to use

Rubberized coating, comes with a spare bezel, performs utilizing only a single USB cable (as lengthy as I don't try to create), performs as adveritised, low-cost. Same dilemma as some of the other posters, the drive mounting screws are too lengthy and result in challenges if tightened all the way (the tray won't eject). The bezel on my laptop drive was a bit as well tall so I appreciated the supplied replacement (I've had a bit of practice so it was an uncomplicated swap). I haven't bothered with filing down the screws, I just backed them out a tiny and each and every factor operates. This drive will be used with a Mac Mini as the study drive (I'll use the superdrive for the writing) so I appreciate the option of utilizing only 1 USB cable.

Small, USB powered, rubberized outer housing won't slide or scratch Tried 3 different drives, none worked with it. Kept getting "USB device malfunction" error. The circuit board was place collectively crooked and didn't match inside the housing adequately. Pity, mainly because it would have been a valuable device. Newegg rocks, as usual, and took care of it. Thanks Newegg!

Sabrent replaced the unit right away but even the replacement would not function with my CD-ROM drive. CD-ROM appeared to install and spin up but drive icon under no circumstances appeared in My Computer system. I attempted this with two identified good drives from old Compaq nc610c laptops. Neither Windows XP nor Vista would recognize the drive. I ended up returning the enclosure.

None Plugged it into two unique computers, 1 with XP and the other with Mac OS X - didn't work. Attempted USB two. with a second cord for power - didn't function. Installed the "driver" on the offered disc - did absolutely nothing. Attempted two distinct DVD drives - nothing at all. Went to Sabrent.com to locate drivers - they don't have any. Overall, it just didn't do something. I purchased this to save a handful of bucks; it was the cheapest one particular there. Just commit the few dollars to get a better one particular.

none Did not function with XP, Vista32 or vista64. Got an error message within seconds of connecting to computers. Attempting to load the drivers from the disk didn't support. It was worth a try. I hate throwing away great drives out of older laptops. Most likely just a defective unit.

It's cheap and it does the job. Nevertheless none right after six months. I most lately employed this to produce recovery disks for my new net book and it worked flawlessly. I like that you only require to use the USB cable for disk reading (the power cable is for writing).

Easy slim enclosure, does what it's supposed to do for cheap. Case is plastic but sturdy. When I initial inserted the drive into the enclosure I got all sorts of errors, XP wouldn't recognize it, Vista complained, and so forth. and so on. The fix was to essentially pop the situation open (it's held together by plastic snaps, careful!, but simple), and totally seat the drive into the tiny circuit board. Then you put the whole issue back collectively. If the manufacturer gave much better guidelines this wouldn't be a problem. In their insert, they specifically warn the user NOT to open the situation, but devoid of performing so I would have returned this unit.

It's affordable, has a nice rubber kind finish, works. Incredibly cheaply produced. When I was trying to put the drive in, the leading and bottom half halfs came apart. It does what it's suppose to do, but I wouldn't obtain another a single.

Operates excellent. ภ + shipping and I have a dvd burner for my new netbook. (I had a slimdrive from an old Compaq laptop.) Slight problem additional than a con, but it worked quickly on my desktop with XP, but took some perform on my netbook with Windows 7. I in fact had to put the included install disc in my desktop, copy the files to a flash drive, and then set up on the netbook.

Easy to use, rapidly installation, small size, appears extremely tough. None that I could assume of. I got this to make use of a multi drive out of my sisters dead laptop, she wanted a DVD drive for her net-book and this was the greatest solution I found. Installation was a snap, and when it was hooked up, the computer system recognized it immediately.I advocate this to anyone in the industry for a slim drive enclosure.

* Comes apart pretty simply by slidding top/bottom in opposite directions, then you can fit the tiny USB/ATAPI board onto the end of the drive and re-assemble with it inside. A single trick although is that there is a tiny tab stop at the rear of the enclosure...you will need to spot that board on outdoors and the drive itself butts against it on the inside. Functions!* consists of each an added bezel (mine was too massive so I did make use of it) and an added USB power (my tiny netbook did not need to have it). * Not sure if this is a actually a negative factor due to the fact Windows 7 seemed to recognise it automagically...but the integrated driver software only functions with Windows 98. Pulled a DVD out of a dead laptop and then purchased a netbook so this was a great way to comprehend some worth...waste not, want not! I was pleasantly shocked that these things are standardised adequate for this to work e.g. at the rear of the drive is a triangular notch on 1 corner that the board fits snuggly into.

Definitely fantastic and low-cost option for folks who got an older EIDE laptop CD/DVD drive. Great rubberised, nonmarking outdoors. Solid construct. What I noticed is that back screws are from 1Ǟ two 1ǚ inch also long(depend on drive design). I installed my perfectly working SONY drive and it would not close or perform appropriately. Following obtaining screws problem I merely sanded them down to proper size(do not reduce them, sand them with some 220 sandpaper) and now every little thing is ideal. Small design issues are not what should take away a star or two. It's simply imposible to predict each and every and each and every predicament.

It performs.Plug and play in Win7 and Mac OS ten.6.Integrated mini-CD frisbee (lol). The included faceplate didn't match up to any points on the tray to attach (luckily the original faceplate worked anyway). It also was a bit tricky to install (just had to make certain the drive was as far in as it could be).Comes with a mini-cd driver disk for Win98. I located this extremely unintelligent in two ways: Ƒ) you're making a USB disk drive to add it to a computer that doesn't currently have 1 and ƒ) I don't know anybody nevertheless making use of Win98. I didn't use the additional USB-power connector and it worked fine. The casing is produced of plastic, but I wasn't expecting anything fancy.

Cheap, uncomplicated, and rapid. Tightening the screws as well a lot keeps the tray from ejecting. I got this simply because I had an old laptop laying around and required to drive for my netbook (an Asus 1005HA). The drive is likely superior than the least expensive of the external drives offered right here, and ฟ to convert a drive I currently had seemed like a sweet deal. It is.The enclosure comes assembled, but it is less complicated to install the drive disassembled, it is basic to pull them out, they slide apart. This is a design feature, another evaluation listed it as a con. You don;t have to pull it apart, but i like to make positive almost everything connect properly. Right after you put it back together just ploaug it in an duse the integrated CD-ROM if your laptop or computer doesn;t recognize it, and BEHOLD! you have an external drive! I was impressed by the quality, it feels good. I was expecting a thing flimsy for ฟ but this is a pretty good enclosure, it's even rubberized!General I definitely advocate this.

Got this product promptly ( GO NEWEGG ) Initial installation was relatively uncomplicated. Didn't require to use the further usb energy cord on my tower, although if you have a netbook you may need it. Little, lightweight, and it looks pretty neat sitting on a desk or one thing. Works as described, basically push the drive into the enclosure, and hold it in place although you put in the screws. The drive doesn't remain plugged into the enclosure by itself, you Have to use the screws (Not significantly of a con I guess, its what they're for). Installing this device on Vista Property Premium 64-bit was a discomfort, drivers on disk didn't work. Was able to use disk fine on 32 bit edition. The cd that came with this enclosure is meant to be utilized to install it IN the drive you put in the enclosure. Don't plug in the drive and put the min cd in a different drive. Use the one particular in the enclosure. Also, the faceplate may be lodged inside the enclosure when you receive it. I couldn't come across it and tried to put the drive in and it wouldn't go (lol, go me) it was in there.

It's took me about 5 minute to assemble. I kept my faceplate but it does come with a spare. I is a bit on the inexpensive side and the holes in the back for the ports don't line up best but hey for ฟ you got a good external drive I would advocate. I would be interested to see it this would function with blu ray. It does a great job burning DVD's at 8x

Working with enclosure with a Teac CD/DVD multi-recorder. Plugged into laptop with Win7 and was immediately detected. Place in DVD+R media and the internal Win7 DVD maker alternative popped appropriate up. I ended up transcoding an avi file to straight DVD format and it worked great. It did take about 1.five hours, but that was due more to hardware deficiencies in my laptop and not the enclosure. The ruberized coating is nice, also. I did have to back the screws out a small and verify board alignment as a preceding reviewer stated, but after I did that I didn't have any a lot more troubles with the tray popping out unexpectedly. The dual USB cables (one for power and one for data) just means one particular more issue to hold track of. A split cable would've been better. I ordered two of these initially for S2020 Lifebooks that had additional battery packs in the modular bay instead of a CD/DVD drive so I could take them additional/go longer ahead of needing to recharge the batteries, but the enclosures are so useful that I'm going to use them for fundamental transportable drives as effectively. Operates wonderful with my mini-ITX video streaming box exactly where space is a premium.
