I didn't have any problems fitting a 1TB WD Green drive in it. Drive ran cool and I was in a position to load files on quite effortlessly. Had some initial difficulty seeing the drive through USB, but realized I had to format the drive by way of the disk manager in windows.case feels sturdy and is a snug, but great fit for my drive. Came with eSata cable, etc. Stopped working right after two makes use of. I could read the drive, but not any of the contents of the folder. Place the drive in my desktop and it is completely functional. Enclosure is dead (tried unique drives with similar result).

I just did a drive swap from old Max 20G type with the steel plate on the bottom to a WD250G caviar SE timed it although sitting in my comp chair with poor lighting and employed the supplied screwdriver, below 15 minutes including turning the fan upside down as a different reviewer stated the fan draw was incorrect. In fact it wasn't if you left the fan assembly mounted backwards from the mfg! but common sense tells you to turn it more than to fit your HD in or you'll bind or break it if you don't. So I looked once again and saw it now was backwards and now it draws through the filter. So thanx for the heads up on that!! 15 minutes to swap drives is outrageous!! It ought to take no more than a couple of nano seconds! I don't know how you guys at NEWEGG can do this, dealing with clients who just shouldn't be involved with tearing apart comps in the initially location I figure you guys are just gluttens for punishment. Just think about how a create was 10 years ago not possible w/o a soldering iron and some studying as compared to now. Saying you built your comp now is = to removing the faceplate from your car radio!! Look ahead of you break!

Operates with IDE & SATA Drives. USB/eSATA Output. Decent size fan. Nope. Yeah, 10 screws hold the HD & the enclosure FIRMLY with each other. Would you favor loose? Lot of folks whining about eSATA NOT Working. They COULD use their computer system to Google eSATA and find out that IT CAN'T Function if you didn't load the SATA drivers through the OS install. Their computer systems are operating in an emulation mode to operate with the SATA drives. Check your BIOS individuals, it's a kludge developed to aid the masses who weren't ready to do an OS set up with SATA. So if this case works with your Win7 Laptop's eSATA (as mine did), it's due to the fact the manufacturer knows how to set up Operating Systems. If their port didn't "work" every single laptop would be returned. Computers aren't rocket science, but if you've avoided the finding out curve you've ... missed what you've avoided. I've used 1 & 2TB drives with USB & eSATA, each hot-swappable. And yes, the rear plugs aren't safe, if you want NASA good quality the enclosure would price 񘘐. Common interface jacks are employed and Electronics ARE fragile.

I bought this enclosure and place in a Seagate SATA ST3500410SV 500G drive for use with my MOXI DVR model 3012. It worked fine, was recognized by the MOXI and formatted. I've been working with it for a number of days and it functions so far. Did have to obtain an eSATA cable to hook it up, the enclosure doesn't come with one particular and it's not the similar as an internal SATA cable. If you're ordering 1 of these enclosures for eSATA use and don't have an eSATA cable, get 1 of these also! The enclosure comes with a USB cable. I'm mostly writing this assessment to let people know that it performs with the MOXI DVR as an external eSATA drive. I've located valuable couple of testimonials that state that.

I own one more enclosure that is so nearly identical to this a single that I have small doubt they have been created at the exact same factory. The only difference is the other is for SATA only. I seriously liked the other brand which I bought from Newegg so when I saw this Sabrent model on sale elsewhere I couldn't resist. I tried to install a WD 250GB SATA drive in it and there was absolutely no feasible way to do it. The cause is the angled data plug of the unit is lined up opposite the data plug on the drive. This makes it not possible to place the drive into the unit. I tied flipping the drive over and it nevertheless wouldn't fit. I tried removing the electronic elements from the unit and flipping them more than. It nevertheless wouldn't match. I called the firm that sold it to me and explained my dilemma. They mentioned they would attempt one more a single and see what the issue was. They in no way told me what happened but I received an RMA quantity a couple days later. Apparently they agreed that there is a serious design and style flaw. I don't know how it functions with other SATA drives or IDE drives but there is no way whatsoever to put my WD 250 in this unit. I was further annoyed when I had to pay to return it. When I lastly got a refund they didn't refund the S&H either. I paid ฤ.00 for nothing at all. I wouldn't take this unit if it was free. I only wish I could mention the name of the seller. I will never ever do business with them Direct-ly once more. I need to have stayed with Newegg and I wouldn't have gone via this ordeal. I even told them that if they could get an additional drive like mine to fit, I would preserve the unit. They couldn't. Whoever created this product in all probability ought to be held liable for all the lost shipping charges. I don't like to bash a corporation for no cause, but believe me, I have a lot of reasons. I have constructed numerous computer systems so I have lots of practical experience in modification. From time to time it's necessary. I spent over six hours trying various strategies to make this operate to no avail. It need to be removed from the industry in my opinion.

e-sata port with higher transfer price. Modest type issue. Black finish appears cool w/ fan grill on prime. Pretty Pretty. Small tools came with. Both IDE & SATA interface. Drives can lay flat if you like not on there side. Runs Cool. Can use several diff drives. Tight fit for 3.five inch drive. Takes a even though to take apart to set up drive. Instructions are in ChinGlish so dont count on superb explanation. Must re-boot for E-sata to ID drive, but that is given that it connects to Sata header on MB so it sees drive as internal not like USB. First one had Broken Fan so RMA was performed promptly by Negg.Fan is Kinda Cheesy. Could be a small less expensive. I installed some tiny felt pads on the bottom like feet so the bottom has a little clearence and it dont scratch my desk. This way air can move more than & below the unit. I like drives to lay flat not on a single side.

Has a fan, works for ALL HD's, Tiny size, good appear, quiet (the HD I place into it makes much more noise than the fan) ESATA + USB, Recognized by OS and ready for use within five seconds of USB plug in, no drivers or device manager adjustments necessary. Extremely affordable when compared to other individuals with all the same capabilities. The directions were nonexistant which implies 90% of persons who bought this gem will be destroying it just before they even turn it on! It took even me about 1 minute of studying the layout of the case ahead of I knew what not to do! Solder joints are not the cleanest and the components had been not all tight to the board either but they were all there! This is a very nice case if everyone stopped to consider just before jamming their HD into it and started to throw a fit, followed by bashing it on-line right here, they would be using it right now as I am. As for the Millions of screws I counted 8 total to take away. I place the 2nd biggest HD I have in it Maxtor D540X-4K now I'll swap it for WD250JB caviar SE or MAX6L200PG no challenges

Sturdy construction. This issue is built like a tank. Extremely strong frame and covers. Fan is a nice function. Didn't have any of the fan rubbing and binding problems with a Seagate 1.5TB drive. Changeable amongst IDE and SATA. USB worked just fine. In line energy supply, so no wall wart. No integrated eSATA cable. For the price it ought to be in the box. Would not operate working with eSATA on my Gateway FX 68XX series laptop. Driver disc wouldn't autoload, not that I assume it would have aided anyways. It froze my method to a halt every single time I plugged it in. I bought this from a nearby brick and mortar place. Took it back the next day. If I only planned on employing it for USB I'd have kept it. Don\'t forget to order an eSATA cable if you strategy to attempt employing it for that, there isn't one particular in the box. I got an eSATA two drive hot swap bay (made by a pretty properly known case and PSU manufacturer) instead and it worked with my laptop right out of the box.

Not actually certain what the other people are saying with the tight fit. Slapped a new Seagate 1.5TB SATA drive in mine nowadays, and had certainly no challenges at all. Fit in perfectly and performs wonderful. This is most likely the 9th or 10th external drive I've put together in the final couple years. Previously employed the cases from 1 of the bigger pc retailers, just before they went out of enterprise right here in California, so went hunting for an alternative. This fits the bill quite nicely. The included screwdrivers were a nice touch also, along with the added hard drive screw. All-in-all, took about two minutes to put collectively. Didn't need to use the instruction manual, but I did have a glance for the entertainment element. As other people have stated, it isn't precisely written in best English. But no worries.Fantastic solution! Haven't genuinely found something undesirable. It's a good small aluminum case. When I initially place it collectively, the integrated fan was scraping on the difficult drive a tiny bit when it was on, and was creating some noise when the drive was either upright (i.e. with the "feet" on) or with the fan facing down (which it definitely shouldn't be in that position for appropriate use). Loosening the screws on the fan-side of the case very slightly took care of the dilemma. I didn't want to list it below the cons, as I am extremely satisfied with the enclosure, but a screwless design would be good. It's not like you're going to be modifying drives all the time, but screwless designs are generally good.

Capability to use IDE and SATA drives interchangeably in similar enclosure with outputs by way of USB or eSATA.Keeps drive cool and nice blue LED lights on front. Installation is a nightmare. This enclosure has extreme design flaws. They have to have only developed this for 1 type of challenging drive. I installed an older Maxtor IDE drive and what a discomfort. I truly have to unscrew the circuit board, lift it up, plug in the drive (power and IDE cable) and slide the drive in with the plugs beneath the board. Like another post stated, it is a couple of mm as well significant.Just poor design. As soon as I got it installed it worked just fine, but it is a true discomfort in the rear. It tends to make me not want to transform out the drives, EVER. Incredibly disappointed that this was created so poorly. Only explanation I don't rate it as 1 egg is since it did function.Lastly, the supplied eSATA cable is dead. I have to return it and have them send a new one. The drive completely would not operate till I employed the USB cable. Drive would spin, but not recognized in windows. I would most likely keep away from this enclusure. You just don't know for certain if your drive will fit usually or if you will have to do what I did.1. Unscrew tiny circuit board2. Tilt modest circuit board upthree. Plug in energy and SATA / IDE cable to drivefour. Slide back of drive w/ plugs in back initial so the backs of the plugs go under board.five. Push drive down and back to get front of drive past lip of enclosure.6. Plug in and test.7. Screw top cover back on.And acquiring the drive back out? Effectively, I hope you are by no means in a hurry to modify out drives. Reverse the approach above, but it is additional tricky to get the drive out from below the lip of the enclosure.

I decided to comment after I study the other critiques. I am an experimenter and tried this device with an open thoughts. I did come across the enclosure a tiny snug but the task is to install the power and information connectors initial, slide them under the circuit board right after the other end is lip of the case. Snug makes for a vibration free of charge package. I did notice this anomaly, if you format a new drive thru the USB port, it will not be deemed valid by the operation process when you switch to eSATA. To more than come this situation I utilised Partition Magic (you can also use a share ware program) to reformat as key and logical partitions. Now they operate just fine using either port. eSATA is by far more rapidly, HD Tach shows 100 MB/sec transfer rate on my dual Intel processor computer system. When operating on the eSATA port the activity light indicating information transfer does not blink as it does making use of the USB port.

Fan cooled; quiet fan.IDE and SATA drives compatible;(but IDE drive can only use USB interface. SATA drive can use either USB or eSATA interface). All metal box, fantastic for heat sinking. Even without the fan, the metal box conducts heat away, effecting very good heat sinking (but make confident you use the challenging drive screws so that the drive contacts the box tightly for heat conduction). I tested this. Design on LED is incorrect: when use eSATA only, LEDs are not lit. LED lights up only utilizing USB connection.Design on fan is Wrong (fatally wrong): The fan blows out via the side vent, which has a dust filter, thus blocking air flow! The fan is supposed to suck in air by the side vent and the dust filter. Please check yours, perhaps much better luck finding a revised version. My 2 boxes are the similar incorrect fan design. 1. Some Computer BIOS may have trouble with external SATA connection. Some SATA tough drives may well want jumper to to work with long SATA cable.two. Each two boxes function in eSATA, even even though the LED is not lit up. (SATA Hitachi 2TB.)Modification on Fan:Flipping the fan more than in the fan 'caddy' will remedy the incorrect design. Nonetheless, the caddy style is also wrong! The opening of the plastic caddy is as well small and would rub on the fan blade. Reduce wider the opening, and cut away the fan shroud which also rubs on the fan center. After that blades move freely. Also will need to reduce the fan wire to reroute it.Immediately after the mod, the fan now sucks in air from the side and blows air to the drive. A lot cooler system. (I tested both techniques.) With the fan flipped, the dust filter can\'t be inside: it'd rub the fan blade. I simply place the filter on the outside of the enclosure.LED mod: haven't accomplished it yet. To me it is only cosmetic.

Okay as enclosures go. I would rate it pretty high whilst it was working, but it failed soon after four mos. I got an RMA by way of e-mail. First I am told, "You must re-package any item(s) being returned as it was delivered to you, with all components, materials and documentation." Not still getting the box or even being sure what was originally in the box, I referred to as Sabrent. Immediately after getting the run-a-round just attempting to speak with an individual besides the operator, I ultimately got “Adam” who would not determine his position with Sabrent. Adam did say I did not have to send “everything” to get a replacement. But, I must return the unit very first. So, if they obtain it and agree what I return was adequate, THEN they will send a replacement. I requested Sabrent send a replacement and charge my credit card if the failed unit was not returned – really common practice. Adam mentioned a thing to the have an effect on of “That would be good to do it that way, but Sabrent does not do that”. Sabrent buyer service?? I'll not bother with an RMA and just go elsewhere - plus tell you people to beware of Sabrent. I got the impression Sabrent is just an importer, providing tiny service otherwise. I don't know how Newegg approves suppliers, but this one could need a 2nd appear.

I hope there is a manufacturer response to this providing a way to get me a new fan for an otherwise decent item.
