Low cost, fashionable seeking, usb, fw and esata ports. none so far. If I want to be picky, I would say the esata cable is not included. It just operates. I use it with WD drives. Tried FW, USB and esata connections and they all work. Naturally esata is the quickest and that's what I'm employing.

Appears nice, little desktop space, good cost for Firewire and eSATA Purchased one, which ended up dying inside a month, and screwing up the 1.5Tb drive I had in it.Returned through Newegg, and the replacement is beginning to have the same troubles (abrupt disconnects).I'm not going to try for a third, I suspect that the device doesn't have sufficient cooling to safeguard the circuit board from hotter running HDs. I'd certainly use this with a smaller drive, but I don't believe it's up to the task of a 4platter HD.

Worked okay for just over a year... and 1 day I hear a loud POP! Something blew on the board. The enclosure will no longer connect to a Pc by way of eSata, usb, or firewire. Fortunately my HDD nonetheless functions. Transfer speeds had been decent all through the enclosure's life. On the other hand, I've had random disconnects since it's been taken out of the box.

Easy to set up a drive into. Powerful and sturdy with the material it's made out of. Doesn't use as well significantly energy, and delivers several methods to be connected to the pc. Can get quite hot as the case material absorbs the heat produced from the drive. Even if the drive isn't carrying out any work but is just spinning, the temperature of the case still rose. At one time, the case reached about 105F on the outdoors, but practically nothing was broken. Also, absolutely nothing is supplied to safe the drive, so when the case is tilted, the drive will slide a little. It's uncomplicated and absolutely does the job. The heat the case absorbs generally displayed some concern, but has never ever truly triggered any problems. Even with cons being a lot longer than the pros in the length of text, the pros basically outweighs the cons all round.

Appears great sitting on top rated of my Macpro, dissipates heat very effectively, price tag is reasonable, incredibly trustworthy with a 500GB Drive It's a couple of months I personal this item and it has been a life saver as my principal backup boot drive with a Seagate Barracuda ST3500320NS 500 GB Drive. However I not too long ago put my 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS with two partitions and it has been a lot more unstable than a moving cold front! Google it and you will find other folks who have contacted Macally complaining that 1 TB drives disconnect in the middle of Back-ups and transfers! Macally's response is that "some" high capacity drives demand more energy than the unit can present! Yeah thank's for telling me now.....months right after I bought your product! So five star with a 500 GB and 1 star with a 1 TB unusable drive! So what is a fair all round rating? Well, you be the judge! I am providing it a two. This factor is like a toy to me me now. Not severe at all! I now use my faithful G-Tech (found here on newegg) for backing up my bootable drive.

There are two extremely fantastic mounting stands. The one particular I'm utilizing you just Screw flat plastic pads onto the front and back bottom feet. The prime handles look just like the bottom feet, except the bottom feet have the screw holes. The other way is to rest the physique of the drive into the bracket. Solid construction, every little thing is aluminum, except for the back I/O panel and its plastic.4 screws and the back I/O panel is off. Took me about five minutes. You ought to have no troubles if you comply with the instructions on how to put it collectively. The second day I had it. Vista had a patch update. So I let it update and all. Then I turned the computer on and it could not find the external Tough Drive. I had to completely unplug the unit (USB and Power) and then turned it back on and like nothing at all had happened Vista discovered the Drive and every thing has been fine each sense then. So watch out with the Vista updates. This is the very first time I had ever messed with an external challenging drive ahead of. This is by far way less costly than going the "My Book" route, like I did last time I want storage space. I’m utilizing a HITACHI Deskstar 500GB, Cache 32MB, 7200 RPM that I got from a regional computer system shop. My total price was below 贄.

Stunning looks, adore the power button and all round aesthetics. (looks excellent next to my MacPro)! Firewire and USB ports operates just fine. Initial study the Manufacturer's basic caution" eSATA port(up to three.0Gbps) prepared* The * reads this "Certain limitations apply to eSATA connection, eSATA cable not integrated" Here is exactly where I get angry! What specifically are the limitations! Ok after I spent ้.66, I finally fully grasp the "limitation" . The limitation in basic terms is that it does not have sufficient energy to even sustain a 500GB hardrive by way of esata connection! If you are strictly hunting to connect this point through esata..Overlook About it! If you are going to use only the USB and Firewire port, I say go for it. As for a message to Macally. Don't place an esata connection with vague legal terms to safeguard yourselves! Be sincere! Inform buyers straight out what are the limitations!

makes it possible for you to obtain a wonderful style, which incorporates a higher excellent chipset, for a low cost. The case does have a novelty issue (looking like a miniature Mac Pro). the lack of a cooling fan is really a bummer, and I should possibly take 3 eggs off for that. Heat kills. My WD Black AALS HDD (high efficiency challenging disk) gets extremely, quite hot, so I am utilizing this enclosure without the sides to enable some ventilation. If it had a fan it would be great. It really performs fine with out the sides. The subsequent greatest option is a 赔 icy dock dual 3.5" enclosure.

No fan noise mainly because there is no fan. The enclosure gets warm to the touch, not hot, when I perform it really hard. None of the firewire cables that I've get firmly seated into the ports. The back plate on mine may be a small as well thick, stopping the cable from going all the way in, or the ports don't have sufficient friction to hold on to the cable. I've dislodged cables right after merely touching the enclosure. That doesn't happen with my other devices. I use this for as a Time Machine drive on my Mac mini. Works properly so far.

It appears neat. It doesn't hold up. I owned it for 1 year and 2 months ahead of the Firewire died. I switched to USB, then that failed a month later. Just replaced it with an Acomdata Samba enclosure. Luckily the really hard drive is fine. I won't ever acquire a different Macally item once more.

Appears great The 2 amp energy supply makes this enclosure worthless with large drives. I had read differing reports on the energy provide but I figured a 5400 rpm drive would not overtax this Macally unit. Wrong. It worked for a day or two but then just started disappearing from my desktop. The only way to remount the drive was to pull the firewire cable whilst the drive was running, and that is a surefire way to corrupt the information. I known as and wrote Macally but in no way received any response. None. It's like they just don't care about their reptutation. I used to like Macally solutions but this practical experience has shown them to be no a lot more than a fly-by-evening firm. They sold me a device that doesn't execute and then won't respond when I call. Macally apparently does not care that it is becoming a disreputable organization. Lousy product, lousy service. A very dissatisfied consumer

Supports eSATA, USB and Firewire connections.Effortless to assemble. Loosen two screws, slide open the case then mount the drive. The drive pushes onto a combined information/power connector that is fixed in the case.Quickly transfer speeds with eSata cable.Case is incredibly stable as soon as feet are attached.Enclosure is quiet and cool with WD 250GB Caviar Blue drive. Wires to front panel are simply pinched under the disk drive. I had to hold the wires to the side although mounting the drive. The drive is mounts straight on the case metal, no shock mounting. Does not consist of an eSATA cable. No fan.Case is aluminum except for the back panel which is plastic.Has a energy switch on the front with a blue light. The light turns on when the unit is on and flashes when the unit is active.Involves:FireWire cable - 41"USB cable - 28"Two types of feet: 1 set of feet screws to the bottom of the case, the other is a bracket that the enclosure can rest in.

Appears nice, operates flawlessly, silent (no fan) and keeps the drive cool. Comes with all cables required to use the drive through USB, FireWire or eSATA. Low cost, really well produced and tons of connection possibilities, what's not to appreciate?! Would be good to have a fan, but there's no will need, drives keep good and cool. I've only used USB so far considering that I lack eSATA at the moment, but I have no reason to count on that it won't work. I did have one particular strange concern; if it's plugged in a turned off my computer system won't POST. If I unplug it or turn it on, every thing is fine. Very strange, but only a minor niggle.

The aluminum unit keeps the drive cool, and is cool to the touch. No fan so it's quiet. Easy to get drives in and out. The powerbutton is situated on the front of the unit highlighted by the blue Led. Back plate is made of plastic and the Blue light activity is a bit vibrant. On other Macally enclosures, there is superior dampening involving the drive and the chasis (PHR Series), but I don't move these about so not a huge deal. I've been making use of these enclosures for more than a year now with no complaints working with 500 GB, 640 GB and 1 TB Seagate drives ( all 7200 rpm). I attempted working with 1.five TB Samsung and WD Green drives 񢾘 rpm) and both have given my method fits. When the drives spin down, far more often than not, they don't spin back up, resulting in Finder Crashing. I have to unplug the drives to get my technique back. Even additional disturbing is that Occasionally the drives will spin down in the middle of a file transfer, and crash finder. The information that was becoming moved (not copied) is sometimes lost. A few weeks ago, I moved each drives to internal bays and have seasoned no problems. With the proper drives I give this enclosure a 5 rating

Case worked perfect from the initial set up. Every single port you could ever will need. Solid case construction. Hdd stays good and cool even under full load. When I got this it was on sale with cost-free shipping, so it was an great deal. Now the greater cost may well be a bit much. Place an added hdd that I had around 鸴g SATAII) into enclosure for Time Capsule setup. Was identified by the Airport Base Station instantaneously and performs wonderful!

1. Triple interface - USB, eStata, Firewire 400.2. Matches my MacBook Pro.3. Set up is a breeze.four. Frees up one particular USB port. (Not actually a pro) If you the alternate stand that screws in, if you place the rubber pads on, you can't take away the stands devoid of placing a hole in the rubber. Not a big deal since it will be laying flat. I genuinely wanted a Quad interface with Firewire 800 but it was a lot more than twice the cost. Given that not all of my computer systems have Firewire 800, Firewire 400 will do just nicely.I mostly wanted it for the eSata, but also I wanted Firewire given that with Tough Drives Firewire can be a bit faster. I can now copy 300mb worth of files in less than ten seconds.

Solid chunk of aluminum casing for the skin. A whole mess of connections on the back which can come in handy when/if I determine to tote a complete bunch of films around with me while on the road. Keeps my music and movie drive in a tough enough package. I just want the cost had been a bit decrease. Plunking down ุ for just a case I like plus the cash for a drive to place inside makes other prepared-to-go external drives a bit more eye-catching. No true savings but I do like how the case looks and is constructed. Cost knocks half an egg off the rating but I didn't see an option for 4.five eggs. I noticed the loose fit others have commented on. I have the two screws tightened totally but I can hear the sled the drive bolts to kind of rattling about on the rails. Not genuinely a distraction unless you are placing your drive on a washing machine that is loaded out of balance. I believe that's the only way I would be able to hear the rattle. As it sits on leading of my G5 it's a fairly silent piece of kit. I'll acquire far more but I'm keeping my fingers crossed on a reduced value.

This is a nice searching enclosure, it seriously it is. I had a preceding assessment not extended following I bought the unit, you can uncover it pretty rapidly by looking working with the most valuable sort, Its like the 3rd or 4th. Not going to restate the very good points, but there are many. It IS incredibly versatile. Mine has now died immediately after almost two 1Ǚ years. 1st the e-sata began acting up about a year ago, so I switched to USB. Now the USB no longer operates, the unit drops out and back on all the time. So apparently for the lengthy haul it has difficulties. It would also get relatively warm with the Seagate 500GB drive in it, but I assume that was due to the enclosure maintaining the drive on all the time, whereas my current dock powers down the drive when not active. I guess two years isn't undesirable. But I have a Thermaltake dock now, well 2 of them as I just bought an additional, and they are also really dependable so far. In reality the drive that WAS in this enclosure is now in the dock most of the time. Most likely won't by a different of these though. I like the versatility of the docking station style units now.

This isn't a big deal but it is noticable. Otherwise, I can't feel of a single con for this solution. I extensively researched external drives vs. enclosures with the goal of finding one thing that had eSATA and 1394 and this was by FAR the least high-priced high quality option I found. It complements my iMac completely. It took significantly less than ten minutes to open the enclosure, safe my new WD Caviar Black 1TB drive inside with the included screws, close up the case and partition the drive with Leopard. Highly encouraged for Mac users; I would picture it would operate effectively for Computer users as well with the eSATA and USB two.. A Note for those considering about buying a USB 2. only device...1394 and eSATA are SUBSTANTIALLY quicker than USB 2.. If you have the capability of connecting with a quicker connection, you in all probability should.
