Think before buying this notebook everybody should know about Asus's service. I would have rated it 1 star but to be honest, I didn't buy it from NCIX and I need an order id to rate it 1 star. Bought it in December and I am at my second RMA with the same notebook of this model. I started the first RMA 70 days ago. In the 1st RMA, they replaced the motherboard, the video card and one of the two hard drives (2000+ bad sectors). The notebook came back and the backlight of the keyboard wasn't working anymore... The Windows license wasn't genuine anymore after they changed the hardware and they didn't give me another license. For the second RMA, they did not give me any follow up or any news. I honestly think they are laughing at their costumers. What you have to remember:-70 days have passed since the first RMA... And counting...-Asus simply doesn't respect any delay about everything.-Asus doesn't do any follow up with you.-Asus employees do not call you back when they tell this to you.I wish that nobody will ever have the same service that I had since the beginning and that I am having right now with ASUS.

I got this laptop 1 week b4 xmas...it works like a charm out of the box, however you'd better reformat because of weird partition setup by asus, the price/performance ratio is the best in the market. I'll definitely buy another asus laptop next time

Cons: sound level when using the GPU heavily

Pros: Good Performer, solid build, nice extras

I am very happy with this computer. In fact, it is better than I expected. The OS is 64 bit Windows 7, which I quite prefer to Vista. The disk ended up being 2 x 7200 320GB Seagate disks (ST9320423AS) which I wondered about but wasn't expecting. The partition setup was rather odd, 5 partitions with 1 un-lettered for the retore image (20GB on the head of disk 1) so I reduced it to c: and d: but the 20GB couldn't be added to c: without reinstalling the OS so I left it as backup space for d:Comes with a Asus branded Razer copperhead mouse, a good quality green/black backpack, a tie for the AC adapter cord and a LCD cloth. The backpack has lots of zips and compartments, even if you don't plan to carry out it is perfect for storing everything together.I hooked up a 22" external monitor to try Supreme Commander in dual monitor mode and it ran like a dream with high settings and 3 other opponents on a 40 x 40 map. That would have made my last desktop cough up blood ;)Overall ASUS has impressed me with the "complete package", it sounds like a jet taking off when taxing the CPU/GPU but its is an i7 and 260M in a notebook...of course it does. So far I love it. This review was modfied by poster @ 01-12-10 10:04 AM

Cons: Runs really hot - definitely not a 'laptop'. HDMI out problematic with setting up TV resolution.

Pros: Backlit keys. Crisp display.
Comment:
I really love this baby. It lags behind my PC for gaming but in a pinch, it comes through like a champ. But not all is great. It is a notebook and not a laptop Too hot to sit on legs. I can't set up my TV properly like I can with my PC for multiple displays. The HDMI outputs 1920 X 1080 on my TV but bleeds off the edges by about 20 percent making it all but useless. Nvidia control panel not helping. The HDMI out is not crisp, either. Fuzzy. Otherwise. I love the backlit keys and feel of the keys. The screen is crisp and sharp.

Cons: Little to no battery life even when just web browsing (less than 2 hours in all circumstances except idle). Gets pretty warm, heavier than a nongaming oriented notebook.

Pros: Fast, beautiful screen, stylish exterior, good build quality, nice backpack and laser mouse included as well as a free game.
Comment:
I've used this laptop for every game I have and all run beautifully on high settings including Batman: Arkham Asylum, Supreme Commander, Halflife 2 with both expansions, and Crysis(all games except Crysis which is medium-high to run well with the native resolution 1920x1080). Even older games like Diablo II work well in Windows 7. Windows 7 is great for networking and all my movies look really good on the screen. I would not recommend this as a laptop but as a desk based notebook as it gets very warm from basic tasks and soft fabrics insulate it making the heat worse. This laptop also requires a wall plug for extended use, which is to be expected with such a high performace device, but I have yet to find an extended or even standard battery anywhere to suppliment the included one.The actual body of the laptop is very sturdy, with a strong metal trim for the touch pad and metal mouse buttons. The keyboard is backlit and the numberpad is a welcome addition not included in most notebooks. The top outside graphic is nice and the lights give an added touch of style comparible to other high end gaming brands. The included applications are mostly bland although "Fancy Start" allows for the boot screen and sound to be changed to a picture and sound of your choice. The overlay for the function keys is very pretty and it is very easy to change from "Battery Saver" mode to the overclocked "Turbo" mode (Turbo mode can be enabled with one button, although the overclock does not increase anything noticably enough to be used). The warranty is worth mention as well as no other manufacturer offers a 2 year defect warranty, 30 days no dead pixel and best of all, one year accidental damage warranty. The best part about this laptop is the price, the regular NCIX pricing is very competitive but the price is unbeatable if you can catch this beast on sale. Nothing is available at the time of writing this that can beat this price and performance (bang for your buck) and the usability of Windows 7 puts Vista and XP to shame while matching (and beating in some points) Mac OS in almost all points. I cannot recommend this unit enough for a portable gaming/media editing device.

Cons: -thick and heavy-hot, very hot (temperature :-P)-No Raid support, though this laptop would be prime-Battery life, wait what battery life?

Pros: -fast in everyway-core i7 baby!!-Turbo mode for core i7 is cool-hyperthreading!!! (4 cores + 4 "virtual core")-da bomb with SSD-Windows 7-GTX 260 rocks all available games!!-Chicklet keys.-Nice accessories
Comment:
The above pretty much sums up my experience with the laptop. It really is the most awsome laptop you can get at this price point (at the time of writing). The performance is tear inducing, blisteringly fast. The first thing I did was pop in some HyperX somdimms and X128 SSD. That made things a real pleasure.Though, I find it weird that they chose NOT to give RAID support for this laptop when the olde G51Vx had it? This laptop would be prime with a RAID setup. Other than that I find the design too noisy, but that's just me. And I will never understand why the huge circle at the bottom is not even a vent hole?Overall very satisfied, but it has to loose one star for all the quirks.

Cons: - weak battery life (expected)- a bit loud when fan is at full speed

Pros: - crazy fast- pricepoint for a gaming laptop- sexy-looking
Comment:
This is my first laptop ever to replace my aging desktop (dual core athlonx2, 2gbs ram, 8800gts) and I must say it is impressive for a gaming laptop at this pricepoint. This laptop is blazingly fast with the Intel i7 processor and Geforce 260gtx mobile. I played CODMW2 and L4D2 so far and the games runs silky smooth around 60fps with all settings maxed out. There's plenty of storage and ram and Windows 7(64bit) runs smoothly on it. On a side note Windows 7 is definitely a step up over WinXP. The preloaded bloatware doesn't completely hog up resources so I left it the way it. The 15" 1080p is very nice and it's not too big. The laptop is not too heavy which is another plus. The design on the back of the screen is very sexy too and the keyboard have a nice white backlight for night use. The Razor Copperhead mouse is a great gaming mouse with multiple sensitivity profiles and the backpack looks very sharp.Overall, this is a great gaming laptop for the price. With great hardware packed into it like the i7 and 260gtx mobile and plenty of packed goodies, this is definitely worth every penny.

Pros: EXTREMELY FAST LAPTOPIncredible priceGood warranty term and good coverage
Comment:
My god.... what a fast laptop. This is the best option around for anyone wanting a mobile gaming system, especially at $1600. The ONLY bad thing I have to say about this computer is the amount of crapware Asus loads on to it (but for me, the only acceptable amount of crapware, is no crapware). If you're of the same opinion in the crapware department, wipe out the hard drives and install a vanilla copy of Windows 7 (if possible). I had it up and running in about 15 minutes.
