This is the first Laptop that I've owned. I'm glad that I bought this one! What drew me to this laptop was that it had amazing specs for a fraction of the cost...It was either this or an Alienware. This was the better option for me because it was cheaper. It is an EPIC machine. I got it over christmas time. I almost wish I got the one with a blu-ray player because I have a Full HD screen now but I can't watch Blurays...Oh well. I use this Laptop for: Gaming, video editing, word documents, skyping, photoshop...Everything.Plays games very well. I got Skyrim a day after I received this laptop and was pleased to see it detect it to run in Ultra settings. My friends quickly gave this laptop the name Kong...It is big.It runs games pretty well with the settings on high. Framerate can go a little bit down if a ton is happening in your game though.Multitasking on this laptop is really easy. Hasn't frozen on me yet. Currently while writing this review I have Sony Vegas, iTunes, Firefox, GIMP, Steam and Microsoft Word running and the CPU is only up to 32% usage in task manager. One of my only complaints is the Battery life, it only lasts 3hours Max(If you are doing anything CPU intensve it is a LOT shorter) but that is almost a given given the size and specs of this Machine.

Cons: battery life.(duh). The mouse pad is pretty bad at tracking my finger and the mouse keeps going all over the place. But i dont use the pad as im sticking with my mouse. Had to reformat the hdd and install a new Windows 7 HP as i dont like the preinstalled BS Software.

Pros: Sleek design to the body. Big air vents for maximum cooling. good components. Nice chick-let keyboard. The design is NOT fancy. which i like, just one simple matte surface laptop. Fingerprint resistance but not to oil. Plays BF3 on ultra.

This laptop is the biggest purchase i've ever made when it comes to electronics. When this laptop came to me, i just Gotta have it. Not only this laptop has a matte surface and sleek design, it has all the components the desktop has already, and on the go.The power brick is only 3/4 the length of the xbox power brick. so not that big. Highly recommend to every one!!! OH and Thanks to George from NCIX on Cypress St. For helping me getting this laptop.

Cons: - Pretty heavy (not comfortable when transporting (ex : at school)- Battery runs out rapidly (approximatively 2 hours for normal use, excepted for movies and games which is less than a hour).- Mouse/laptop case not included- Sound quality is not the best

Pros: - Amazing performance- 750GB HDD is good- Comfortable- Great fan cooling, and silent- Good keyboard and features (like illuminated keyboard, and functions)- Great screen quality- One more space for HDD/SSD- One more space for DDR3 memory (it include 3x4GB, but this computer can take 4 DDR3 memory)

This gaming notebook is one of the best I ever use! You can play every game at this time in maxed out. I never get issue since I used it. It can remplace my gaming desktop without problem. I upgraded this laptop by installing a SSD and it improves a lot of performance! Temperature is good : in average 40 degree Celcius in idle, and 70 degree Celcius in stress. I recommand it for gamers who want to do some LAN party! Don't forget to buy a laptop case and a mouse, because ASUS didn't include it in this model.

Cons: The "number pad" does not function like a typical Number pad on a desktop keyboard. When playing games (or other uses of which i'm not aware) like garrys mod. Where each number on the "pad" corresponds to activating player spawned entities (thrusters, etc). When i play on the G74sx, it merely switches between weapons (which is the same function as the horizontal array of numbers near the top of the beyboard.) I would have to say that this is my ONE problem with this laptop, aside from its weight, which is just.. physics.

Pros: Great build quality, clear glossy screen, FANTASTIC resolution, Simple, clean design. Smooth feeling against your wrists (trust me, it feels nice) Nice large keyboard (I have big hands with big fingers that fumble on small laptop keyboards. And the best feature about the keyboard is the ability to press Fn+f9 to turn off the touchpad. As well as Fn+f7 to turn off the display, and a few other combinations to control the keyboard light, etc.

So, as you can see, my Pros greatly outweigh my cons. This is just my opinion, others may have different problems or things they love about this laptop, but i think that no matter what sort of user you are (aside from the incompetent), you'll really enjoy using the g74sx. I"m typing this review from mine which I ordered a few weeks ago. And let me tell you, That inclined keyboard really makes a difference (assuming your chair is at the right height, etc) in preventing my 'gaming hand' from falling asleep or getting pins and needles after lots of game time. Speaking of which, this thing stays COOL. I believe ive heard someone mentioning using this on their lap, and i can second that your lap WILL get colder. The only time i can REALLY hear the fan going is when im gaming with my headphones plugged in. When I take out the headphones, i can hear some slight whirring, but nothing compared to my old toshiba laptop which a) couldnt play any games b) shut off due to heat after an hour and c) was as loud as an industrial floor fan. To get back on topic, Asus loads this laptop with some of its own software, some of which I havent had a use for, but one caught my eye. Its called "rotation desktop for g series" and it is just cool. Like.. it turns your desktop into about 9 desktops, not unlike android. The difference being that there are media specific desktops (music, video, picture, gaming) which have BUILT-IN buttons on the desktop which can play music independently of the native windows media player. I found this neat, as you can fade between songs played on windows media, and ones played with asus' software. I really wanted to give just a couple of in depth insightful views into what my experience has been with this laptop. So if this helped out anyone to decide whether to buy this or not, then thats great. Im over-satisfied. The laptop itself was enough to fully satisfy me. But the addition of the cool desktop rotation software was the icing on the cake.

Cons: The touchpad does not work after being turned off and on again using function keys, needs driver update  from G series forums. Very heavy for a laptop and may not fit into some carrying bags. This model does not include the asus bag and mouse. The sound card is downright terrible. THX TruSound is a joke compared to the Dolby systems in asus' previous product lines. Throttling CPU issue kills performance in many games (but you can fix this, see below)

Pros: Possibly the best cost:performance ratio for gaming laptops, RH71 has best cost:performance in the current G74 line (Dec/2011), Very beautiful design, great keyboard, stunning screen quality, extremely quiet and cool under load - even with a near 20% overclock to GPU. Cooling system is the best I have ever seen, at 905core 1500mem, the GPU maintains 60C after 2 hours of Skyrim. Amazing performance in games for a laptop under $3000. Scores around 2270 in 3Dmark11 out of box, 2650 with OC.

THIS IS A LONG REVIEW, INTEND TO GIVE SPECIFICS, ALL THE STUFF I WISH I COULD FIND WHEN SHOPPING AROUND BUT COULD NOT.This laptop is amazing! I bought it a few days ago. Ncix graciously accepted my in-store price match against amazon.ca so I got a great deal without having to wait for shipping. Taking this laptop out of the box, 3 things struck me. The quality of the build, the quality of the monitor, and its substantial weight (About 9lb).After buying this, you should update  your Nvidia drivers to 185.XX or 190.XX immediately, and in the Nvidia panel, allocate PhysX tasks to CPU. You should also get "ThrottleStop 4.0" and learn how to use it to fix the CPU throttle problem thats being talked about on almost every forum. After doing those 2 things, the laptop performs admirably in both shogun2 and Skyrim. At 1080p no AA, 4xAF, high shadows, max everything else, my laptop had 30-40fps outdoors and 35-55indoors (yours may do a little better or worse, it always varies). I found it really easy to overclock the 560M using "EVGA Precision 2.1.1" At 905/1810/1500 the GPU never surpasses 60C in skyrim and hits a peak of 72C after extended periods of Furmark in "Extreme Burn" mode. In other words, this laptop's ability to overclock is AMAZING. Generally, temperatures under 90C are considered very OK, but I dont intend to push mine any further.Shogun 2 at 1080p high/max everything, using the top shader model (i think it was 5) and with Vsync, AA and some other things turned off... 30-50fps throughout. If you are really fond of AA in your games, you will likely have to lower some other settings in some games in order to maintain a smooth 30+fps. I always turn AA and Vsync off in eery game because at 1080p on a 17in monitor, you can hardly see the difference. WITCHER 2.. is a freaking beast.. and sadly, brings this laptop to its knees. However, even highend desktops struggle with Witcher 2's advanced settings, so this is normal. At 1080p with most settings medium-high, SSAO, bloom, lightshafts all on, No AA, and with all the other stuff off, Witcher runs at only 20-40fps with OC, most fights play out at around 25fps. I find this kind of terrible, so I turned down the resolution and it ran quite flawlessly, with 30-60fps. Note that this IS a laptop, which means it wont be nearly as fast as a desktop with similar specs (around 20-30% slower). Do not buy this system expecting to blaze through all the latest games at 1080p with maxed everything because it simply cant. One thing I noticed pretty early on about this laptop is that after turning off the touchpad using the function keys, it will not work again when you try to turn it on. This can apparently be fixed by installing new ATK drivers. One last thing I need to point out is that the sound on this system is terrible, and I dont mean the speakers, i mean the actual chip and software behind the sound. When you get this laptop, be sure to change THX TruStudio mode to headphones or external speakers, depending on what you are using... by default it is set to internal and sounds like nails on a blackboard. Even at the appropriate settings though, the sound on this system is extremely sub par. Everything from music to games sound extremely "tinny" and bass the is flat and weak. My previous Asus N80 laptop had dolby built in, and everything sounded awesome in comparison.. Kind of feels like i traded good sound for good graphics. I intend to buy an Asus Xonar U3 Usb soundcard (around 30$) to fix this. To end things on a positive note, the screen is amazing. After adjusting some color and contrast settings in the Nvidia control panel, everything looks super crisp, clear, and color-rich. Expect Macbook pro equivalent quality. Thats pretty much all I have to say about this laptop... really good deal, good stuff. Get it.
