This hub is small, handy and cheap. It works great. I ran into a small problem. I had to replace the USB 2.0 A-B M/M cable because the original cables are about 2 feet long. It was long enough for the power cable but i needed at least 3 feet for the USB cable.Good product, i would buy again. |

I have to agree with the review by peter_x this hub doesn't function as a powered hub. I've heard this is not uncommon with cheaper hubs that are supposed to be powered. I attached a galaxy nexus, with 10-15% charge left, to the hub and nothing else on the hub but the ac/dc power adapter and after 12 hours it was only 75% charged. So while it works as an unpowered hub - and may be worth the price for that function alone - I can't give it even 2 stars because it clearly doesn't function as a powered hub. |

I bought this hub to power my new Raspberry Pi and a couple of USB devices. When I first received it and plugged it into the wall, I noticed that there didn't seem to be any power going to the device at all. After fiddling with power connector in the back and applying just the right pressure in just the right position, the device's LED light came on, and I then proceed to carefully plug stuff into it. After many tries (the slightest movement caused it to turn off) I realized that it does not seem to provide the power required to power my portable external usb hard drive that has no issues when I plug it into anything else, and cannot even power my raspberry pi, which is also powered by a standard USB cable connected to any other USB port on any other device I happen to have. Anyone who needs a powered hub, should stay away from this device. |

Not everything plugged into it is recognized, I have a few devices that absolutely refuse to work in certain plugs on this. Plus, it seems to be running at USB 1.0 speeds. To make things worse, every time I plug something in, or unplug something, the whole hub seems to lock/reset, disconnecting everything attached to it for a few seconds, and not everything comes back up when it decides to start working again. I definitely would not buy this again, and will be trying to get my money back. |

Upon opening the package, I was initially dismayed to see that the included power adapter was very runt-like, rated at only 500 mA, and having a 2 foot long cord that isn't enough to reach anywhere, unless you can plug it near your outlet, run your USB cables there, and get a longer USB A to B cable to connect your PC to the hub.(Fortunately, the fact that this uses an ordinary USB A to B cable makes this latter part fairly trivial.)What I discovered, however, is that thus hub seems to magically create power out of thin air. I was able to plug in a mouse, a USB flash drive, two MIDI controllers, and STILL charge an iPhone.And here's the thing -- I didn't even plug it into AC power at all.I essentially consider this thing a really good UNPOWERED hub because the included AC adapter isn't so useful, but it's actually a damned good one. The port spacing is fairly close, but because they are all sideways, that is rarely an issue anyways.I tried using this with a USB CD-ROM drive that requires quite a bit of bus power, and the hub powers it, but it caused my iPhone to stop charging, and caused the MIDI controllers to start flaking out. The interesting thing here is that it still did this WITH the AC adapter plugged in, implying that the adapter is pointless. But obviously there are limits to what this guy can do.If you plan on using this with low-draw devices, this may be among the best UNPOWERED USB hubs you can get. I've used one of these with my desktop computer for about 3 years, and a second one for a notebook for about half that time. I bought the second one because the first was so good.It lists as a PowerData Model# HUB-VE243, with the supplier being also listed simply as HUB-VE243. The USB spec is Rev 2.0, but with (notice this) only 4 of its 7 ports rated for high speed (in theory, 480Mbps). It also can transfer data at so-called "full" speed (12Mbps) and low speed. Supposedly you could daisy-chain 127 devices to the thing, much like you could swim to Japan, too, supposedly.The 2 I use are small, good-looking, beautifully practicable tiny towers, about as long as your index finger. They stand up vertically if you want, although I have both secured with thin plastic straps to vertical 2x2s beside the desk. A single subtle blue LED totally non-intrusively attests to power on.What about the USB2.0 being limited to 4 ports? Well, it's never been a problem. 4 USB2.0 ports are pretty nice to have.Plus, you could always plug in your lightweight hardware to the other 3 ports on a more-or-less permanent basis is you wanted. That's one of the advantages to a hub; it lets you free up your "best" USB ports that connect directly with your motherboard via the back of the case. As well, on a notebook, it gives you lots of USB "breathing room".Recommended, definitely. An excellent little guy. I'm hoping for NCIX to restock these so I can buy a 3rd one. |
