Combo drive that can make use of the floppy port and cable that came with the motherboard as well as provide memory card slots. Floppy is still used, shockingly, and till the 'PATA' cable and it's power connector is entirely phased out, it's still great to stick with it. (besides, I like the FDD 'PATA' cable that comes with Asus motherboards, and my preferred Corsair PSUs have two floppy energy connectors, every at the end of either 'Molex' line). The dreaded 'Magic Smoke' was smelled due to this device's energy connection completely going kaput and utterly destroying the floppy power wire coming off a single of the 'Molex' lines for the PSU. The rest of the 'Molex' line was untouched, but the floppy energy wire and connector was completely shot (had to cut it off the line and toss it, and it took fairly a bit to yank it off the back of the floppy drive). Also, the external USB connector is genuinely stupid, as other evaluations have stated. Also, I was expecting a 'Koutech' solution, while the packaging was branded as 'Sohousb' which was a bit confusing... hopefully RMA goes smoothly. I'm going to stick with the 'other' memory card and floppy disk combo-drives from now on, as I'm not really ready to threat it with this unique product once again, and I already have one particular of the 'other' products functioning just fine in a equivalent build, so I know 'they' perform fine with this hardware configuration. 'They' price the very same, but with seemingly superior reliability with my experience, so no massive deal.

Works fine on initially bootup, recieved in excellent shape. Windows maps each of the drives a exclusive letter, so if you don't thoughts seeing eight different drives its alright. Would'nt have expected too a lot development in order develop a seperate space for removable media.- surprise!

Reads just about every card you can purchase. Appears excellent. USB cable is lengthy enuff to go out the back of my complete tower and plug in. Run USB out the back? What up with that? It's not a vehicle....It's a Subaru!!!

Simple to set up. Floppy died on me 6 months immediately after use. The floppy drive is incredibly inexpensive. Also, the USB media reader will magically lose connection soon after a couple of boot ups as soon as the USB header is reconnected. I modified mine to perform on the internal USB header, and it functions good for a couple of times, but after about the 3rd boot, it loses connection and doesn't perform until I unplug and plug it back into the USB header on my mobo. Truly disappointing. I'm going to be swapping this out for a unique brand. Buy Newegg's Rosewill one instead that incorporates a USB media reader and floppy. I haven't had any problems with 3 of those so far on 3 various PCs.

Uncomplicated to install. Every thing operates as advertised. Great item for when you will need a floppy drive and a card reader but only have 1 external 3.5" bay readily available on your case. Internal USB cord is looooooong. Want it could read xD cards. Also wish that it came with an adapter to connect the cable to a USB header on the motherboard rather than going out the back of the case to plug into a USB port. I already knew about the cons before I bought it so I'm not taking any stars away.Very satisfied!

Getting carried out some cursory study, I wished to avoid a low top quality unit and one that would not read floppies written on ancient drives. I had an old floppy with some files written on a 2004 floppy drive and they read completely. I was also impressed with the good quality of the unit all round. Furthermore, my machine had an internal USB port so I did not require the incorporated cover plate with the hole and grommet. Removal was easy since they slotted the cover eliminating the need to have to cut the wire or cover. Now if I switch machines I nevertheless have an unbutchered plate and a strong, unspliced cable. So among these three attributes and the affordable price, I have provided the 5 eggs. None.

Reads a lot of different sorts of media. Fits perfectly in a floppy bay as it really should. It connects to your laptop through a USB cable. I was mislead into pondering it would plug into my motherboard but you just route a cable by way of an expansion slot back into the I/O panel on your motherboard. It seems kind of messy to me to do it that way. It reads all the media that it says it will and works like a charm. Nonetheless, I didn't like getting a USB cable come from inside my case and go to the motherboard panel.

Versatile, uncomplicated to hook up serves the objective Ought to have an alternative to hook it up to a USB header on the MB. Rather you have to run the USB cable from inside to outdoors the case to hook it up. The FLoppy button to eject the floppy is tiny and tough to use. Not monting hardware or face plate to fit in a five 1ǚ slot.

Tiny. Low-cost. Functions good on my comptuers! (I have two of these) Doesnt straight hook to the motherboard. Just understand that there is a seperate cable essential to hook up the floppy AND that there is a USB cable that will come out of a slot in the rear of your computer system and hook into an existing USB port in the rear.

Fits perfectly and has had no issues reading and writing any media I have thrown at it. XP media Center recognized and installed more quickly than I could pull the memory card from my camera. Gonna buy two much more!! How can men and women assessment anything that they haven't purchased or had very first hand knowledge with??? "Other people sadd XXXXX so I'm gonna repeat it and really feel self critical" Jeez get a life!!!OH yeah NO CONS with the item at all. Men and women are complaining about the USB cable protruding from yhe back of their rig, If the back of your personal computer is the focal point of your system, and you feel the want to complain about one cable going the incorrect path, you want assist, or a life, a single or the other. Its a laptop, theres gonna be wires and cables, if you want one thing sleek and fairly to gaze at from the backside, Google Angelina Jolie or some thing similiar.Peace

This reader is fantastic if you don't have any headers left on your mobo. None. Diagrams in the pdf file are ideal if you have any inquiries as to installation. I required a card reader that didn't have a bunch of other ports (like USB, 1394, eSata). All I required was a SD card reader. I planned to set up a floppy drive separately but no require now--it was incorporated. This reader has 3 connections: floppy energy and mobo connector and a USB that connects to an open external USB port.

Its good to fill in that 3.5" bay in my tower. Tends to make the system look full. Takes even these old flash cards from the initially generation digital cameras. Properly having the USB cable going out the back of the pc only to plug into a USB port is cumbersome. Also I don't have a spare IDE to hook up the floppy drive. It really should have been tied into the USB. Design and style is fair.

Supports a wide wide variety of flash media and has a floppy dirve in one particular package. External USB cable for an internal dive, how pathetic. Not an USB floppy drive. I knew about these points when i purchased the issue. I found a mobo to external USB bracket (can be located at your neighborhood comp superstore), removed the USB ports from the bracket and utilised a single of them for this drive. The other i set aside for some thing else. As for the reality that it utilizes a normal floppy cable, thats sort of a fantastic factor as it is Typical afterall and windows doesn't even have USB floppy drivers. (and wouldn't it be funny if the floppy drivers came on a floppy? lol)

Good idea. Card reader will not recognize SD card bigger than 1gig in Vista. Even though depicted as a black unit on newegg's web page, drive came as beige unit. comes with black face plate, but door and eject button are nonetheless beige! Should certainly have read previous assessment. Due to packaging, two of 4 pins for holding black face plate on were broken off. Attempted USB card reader with my laptop running XP and the card reader read my 2gig SD card! Searched the net for Vista drivers and came up dry. Koutech's internet web-site is of no guide. Their compatability chart doesn't even mention Vista! The box for the unit indicated the face can be black or beige. There is a checkmark by the actual colour of the unit. Please Newegg, sell these as two seperate things; one particular black, 1 beige like you do with other front panel devices.

It operates, and it was low cost. Cool that it comes w/ each black and white bezels & a neat rear pci bracket. Incorporated driver computer software operates excellent, identifies the distinct card kinds in My Computer instead of just as drive letters. Weird that it runs off an exterior USB instead of just a USB header. Card connections really feel loose, but operate.

Smooth and flowing style, esp with the 1.44MB drive. Does NOT assistance SDHC. Even tried the driver off their web-site with no achievement. USB cable hangs out back bay to wrap about to plug into port. Not so smooth, or flowing. A good get when it was new (now ŭ a lot more than it was 2 years ago), but now that it is antiquidated, go with the ผ Rosewill model for sale here at the Egg which DOES help SDHC.
