Asus actually enables the IOMMU on the 890FX chipset. Using this with ESX and passing by means of direct hardware no problem. If you are an overclocker, it has lots of knobs. If you like a functioning computer, get something else. I certain would like to see something on a the screen as soon as in a whilst. Been by way of every single video card I have obtainable to me, and this point will not POST the video 95% of the time. I have been by means of four BIOS updates, and it's nonetheless broken. If you want I/O virtualization, get an Intel program and a right server board. I was hoping to consolidate a lot of watts with this board, which includes virtualized video (which I did get working a few times on this board), but now I'm possessing to use even far more juice to run a half decent desktop method.

Plug and play and worked like crazy.Got it with lastest BIOS.Installation CD essentially worked and other than two hokey applications like Norton, had drivers and utilities for almost everything on the board. The core unlock function is neat as you get a little window that shows you each and every time you are utilizing all 6 cores on six core processor.Haven't messed with BIOS at all truly, but manual is actually detailed about how to do it and there are tons of features and programs on the CD for overclock dorks to use, but I'm no overclock dork. My super ninja RAM was underclocked from the get go, but I changed it to max setting immediately. This MoBo has tons of attributes. There are plenty of PCIe slots for adding hardware. The SATA 6Gb/s rocks. None This board is mainly for overclockers. If you are not going to over clock I would suggest a slightly less costly board.

Very first, this motherboard has quite substantially all of the BIOS possibilities as the Crosshair IV Formula and Crosshair IV Intense as they are all based on the AMD 890FX chipset. Second, this motherboard is capable of operating two graphics cards in ATI Crossfire at dual X16 speed. Third, this motherboard supports 1600MHz DDR3 without obtaining to overclock the DIMMs. Fourth, this motherboard has a PCIe 4x slot for OCZ RevoDrives which blow SATA six SSDs out of the water. Fifth, the motherboard has catchy blue aluminum heatsinks currently installed on the north and south bridges as well as in other areas on the board. Sixth, the motherboard has received 139 awards which can be viewed on the ASUS site which says a lot about buying confidence. Personally, I believe this is the best bet for an AMD gaming rig if you require significantly less than 3 graphics cards. The most notable downside of this motherboard is that the PCIe x1 slot will promptly be blocked by any two slot graphics card placed in the first PCIe x16 slot. Most sound cards getting manufactured are PCIe x1 cards. Working with such a card with this motherboard will not be possible. In this situation the workaround is to use a common PCI sound card in the second PCI 2.two slot. Accordingly, this motherboard has two PCI two.2 slots, but the 1st PCI 2.2 slot is also blocked by the second graphics card when one particular is installed in the second PCIe x16 slot. This only leaves four slots of the original 6 slots offered such as: 2 PCIe x16 slots, 1 PCIe x4 slot, and 1 PCI two.2 slot. Lack of "usable" expansion slots is as a result, the most major downside of the ASUS M4A89TD PRO USB3.My recommendation if this is a dilemma is to appear for a motherboard with the PCIe x1 slot mounted above the first PCIe x16 slot on the motherboard. This would absolutely free up at least one other slot as well on the board to expa This is one particular of the couple of boards that supports SATA 6, PCI 3, regular DDR3 1600 MHz, and has a PCIe x4 slot for OCZ RevoDrive installation (however OCZ and ASUS are still operating on drivers and BIOS updates for use of the RevoDrive on this board from what I realize). Also, this motherboard (any AMD board) does not support triple channel memory only dual channel memory, so make confident to only by four sticks of RAM at the most. The only other believed I have is that the cost of this board really should be a bit significantly less costly closer to 财 would appear fair due to the poor slot layout on the board.PS: If anybody is asking yourself which RAM I am operating I am utilizing the 8 GB of Kingston KHX1600C9AD3K2ǚG. This RAM is supported in all four slots of the motherboard and can be run by adjusting the BIOS DRAM settings to 9-9-9-27-two and 1.65 volts. This board can not run random RAM in all four slots. If you intend to use 1600 MHz RAM make sure you refer to the memory help list on the ASUS internet site.

6 cores, runs at 3.72GHz devoid of breaking a sweat, tolerates watercooling well and enhanced my Windows Encounter a complete 1.3 points to 7.two. I haven't even attempted to push it, since I just don't need to have to! I suppose it could be a bit more affordable and have a smaller approach and draw less power. Perhaps triple channel memory assistance would be good, I guess. I've been an Intel fan for numerous years and I haven't had an AMD CPU given that the K7 series. I wanted to save some funds on an upgrade, so I went AMD and I have to say that I'm much more than satisfied for the income I spent. Positive, it's not top of the line or the newest, but I replaced an Intel 975EX chipset, running a P4 D EE 3.73GHz CPU and 6GB DDR2 with this and 8GB DDR3. I'm running a Vital 256GB SSD and I could not be happier with the quicker performance and decrease energy draw of my technique. This ought to last me another three years very easily (I don't need to have cutting edge).

Supports IOMMU Regardless of obtaining IOMMU to work, allowing me to use a tape drive inside ESXi, the overall encounter with version 4.1 is poor. The board would not hold the appropriate time, would not boot properly with a lot of of the on-board devices enabled, and was somewhat unstable, with random crashes more than the last few weeks. Switched to a GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5, and all these difficulties disappeared.

Good layout, BIOS upgrades can be burned to a boot disc from an ISO file and booted to upgrade. Enjoy the energy switch / speaker / reset / LED header. These rule. No will need to peer at tiny letters on the MB or some CAD diagram in the manual to hook them up. I purchased 8GB of CORSAIR CMX8GX3M4A1333C9 Ɣx2GB) and the machine crashes in each Win7 and Linux inside 10 minutes of booting up. Memtest v3.four from an Ubuntu CD hard-locked prior to finishing one full pass, but Memtest v3.5b show no memory errors. If I pull out 3 of the 4 sticks, and leave one particular ƒGB) stick in, the method runs steady for days. I RMAed the memory and a new batch of the exact same memory has the very same symptoms. It's 1 of the few 8GB setups in the QVL for six-Core systems. I am feeling quite disappointed in this board. Not positive if I really should RMA the board or choose a 4GB setup that worked for some other folks. I do not really feel that I would propose this board due to the memory issues I experienced. It's a wonderful board when it operates or is not killing off every little thing else. The only Con is the reality that Asus top quality is slowly fading. Utilised several Asus boards in the past and only for the final year i've been obtaining troubles with them. The initially board they sent was a dud. Rma was swift. second board posted and ran good for several months. Wasn't till October I was capable to have time to play games again. Video cards burning up. Sent cards back to manufacturer a number of occasions and they final 10 minutes tops beneath load. 41 degrees is highest recorded heat. Tends to make no sense. Cards pixelate monitor and lock up pc. Drivers are not the problem sadly. Leaves just the Mobo. It's often been the issue. 180 bucks not nicely spent not to mention time wasted sending off graphics cards.

I bought this board to make a information mining machine. 16 GB memory ECC. 1 advantage of AMD is that if you want ECC memory it is a much less expensive way to go than Intel. AMD never stripped out the ECC stuff. You can also use these "Gaming" boards which are customer priced vs the full blown server boards. This was my 1st construct ever and the machine came up 1st time about. Not challenges. I run Fedora 14. do not more than verify. Sound functions, Software raid works. OCZ Revo2 ࿒ GB) operates. Note I do *NOT* boot off the Revo2. None seriously. I was preseantly surprised how easy it is to develop a computer system. The most challenging bit was the cabling. Sort of fiddly and you have to be patient.
