So far, so fantastic. I got this to use with a 2TB Samsung Spinpoint drive for my weekly backup. So far it appears to be operating excellent. None so far This is seriously just the nature of 3.five - 5.25 bay converters, but if your chassis has one of these hideaway flaps for the optical drive, you seriously can't use the hot swap function.

All round it's pretty well constructed with a mixture of aluminum and plastic. Smooth tray insert and removal. Low cost (but you get what you pay for). A Molex energy connector when every thing about the unit is SATA. UNBELIEVABLE!!! HDD tray unit ships with has ventilation slots, further trays do not which will have an impact on cooling. Time will inform... If your installing into any newer machine be confident to order Item # N82E16812816038 power adapter. Also, verify out some of the other makers such as CRU just before getting this unit, building and general style are much much better.

Great for the value. I got a rebate when getting this bay that integrated two additional trays (Icy must do these more typically due to the fact I would rather have much more trays then บ back, considering the cost to Icydock ought to be about the exact same) The lock, as one more reviewer noticed, is quite considerably as substantially of a deterent as a blinking light on the dashboard of a parked vehicle is to a thief. If you didnt know any superior you'd feel you couldnt steal it simply because its locked (alarm is on). In reality they could just pull the point out with no much harm or energy. That becoming mentioned- I nonetheless believe its worth it to the house user mainly because if you are worried somebody will steal your hd there, you currently have a bigger threat of theft than just a hd.To the Lan-goer: just bring antistatic bags and a back pack with you when you stroll away. You'll nonetheless golden ;) I make actually long "Cons" statements when comparing them to my "Other thoughts" box.Lesson Discovered:Reside in a Secure Household!Or they will steal your harddrives.

Drive trays are interchangeable with the Icy Dock external enclosure I currently personal. Properly-made, except for the lock. Comes with screws. The fan is bloody loud, and spins at a continuous speed regardless of whether or not or not a drive is presently in the bay. When a drive is installed, it gets even louder. Not a large deal for me, but the safety lock is a joke. I inserted a drive and turned the lock, and was nevertheless capable to get rid of the drive using only slightly far more pressure than is usually expected. At least absolutely nothing broke when I did that. Simply because of the fan noise, I'm keeping the drive bay unplugged, which kind of defeats the purpose of a hot-swap bay.

In a position to take my icy dock drive to function making use of the external, i wanted a way to access the contents even though at home! Now I can with this 5.25" internal bay. I just pull the drive out of the external enclosure and slide it in my desktop. no a lot more worrying about the esata cable and extra energy brick! rails could be better

Excellent for hotswapping and placing a HDD in a 5.25" bay. Fan sucks, doesn't definitely move significantly air. The description of this item was located under "EXTERNAL ENCLOSURES'. I bought it on impluse thinking it was a portable HDD cage.... yeah, It needs a MOLEX power connector which clearly was my mistake but nonetheless, the description requirements to be clearer I tested the item, employed it to benchmark and format a HDD i had laying around. Works fantastic.

It would have worked with all of the other Icy Dock hardware. I have 1 computer system with an ICY DOCK MB455SPF five bay and three computer systems with ICY DOCK MB453SPF three bay and a few ICY DOCK MB559 external drive enclosures. I bought this to set up on one more pc without a blu-ray burner so I could just move files from it to a pc with a blu burner. I installed a drive from my ICY DOCK MB559US turned on the computer system and absolutely nothing. It had a energy light but no difficult drive light. Took the drive out and put it back into the 559 and nothing. Moved the drive to a pc and absolutely nothing. Drive is dead. I thought OK drive may possibly have just failed. Installed yet another drive and green light but no tricky drive light and nothing at all. Removed tough drive and place it into a different computer system and nothing at all. Place it into the 559 and absolutely nothing. Drives dont even spin up. So this puppy killed 2 drives. Not a satisfied camper. Pulled it out of the pc and sending it back. Didn't work and I ended up much less than Zero. See above if you don't realize I’m confident I just got a "bad egg" but be careful and use an old drive to begin with. I'll get to buy some new difficult drives from New egg. Now I can get some 1TB to replace my 750GB's I lost.

You can use of those additional five.25 bays that are just sitting there empty. Easy access with out removing the side panel on the case. You have to screw in the drive to the rails, as well time consuming. could have just utilised stronger rails w/clip-ins. Additional detail necessary in the specifications on the design and far more pics are needed that is why I only gave it three eggs. I'm going to try another model with the LCD readout on the next one, but this did the job for what I intended.
